I contribute by going Premium once a year. Yet I buy L$ rarely,, once in a blue moon. I've spent quite a lot of time building a  bike I could sell in good conscience. I somehow don't think that's what LL survives on.

how exactly!

how does one assess countless hours toiling away on one's creations? i need numbers dammit, numbers!

This is one reason I post so much, hoping all the positive posts cancel out the negative ones and anyone keeping track loses count!

well... i'm overwhelmed with the flurry of responses. some personally critical comments/assessments have been submitted for moderation. you know who you are.

as to the excellent perspectives contributing to the alteration of my nascent proposal , i admit there should be a more refined way of assessing one's status. i do understand, and failed to integrate, that free accounts can indeed be a net plus to the world. i was a free account for many years until just recently. in all that time prior to becoming a paid account i felt my creative and monetary participation warranted inclusion to this most compelling of online worlds.

my ego wasn't inflated enough to think that there were any distinctions between paid and free. as i went about my daily routines i never thought my account status had any relevance to my creative input. inclusivity (is that a word?) was not bearing on how the world was "monetized". i didn't care. what benefits would i acrue should i become a "paid" member? i never gave it a thought. the world would last whether i gave the Lindens the much needed funds to continue their survival, if not thrival! (no that's not a word) or not.

and then it came to darker times when all the features of the real world Lab ran amok. closing their expansive worldwide reach, administrative upheavals, staffing ineptitudes & corporate sale are all classic symptoms for the path to dissolution.

so i tossed them some coin. trouble in the family is trouble for me. what more could i do? i'm certainly not altering my Scotish heritage to unrepentantly buy the outrageously priced garments these days. i guess the bottom line is how could i help more? what makes one a more contributing member of the communities we live amongst? how can one assess a value to an individual?

so it's not free or paid that must be distinguished for an elevation in status it's 1. contributor, and 2. not. one may apply one's own monikers should the need be. you get the drift.

and that being said, i apologize if any moronic trolls have taken any offense to my little thought project. your words count against you. and there's the rub!

how does one distinguish themselves as a more beneficial member to the community?

it's not merely PIOF that factors into the equation. one's forum comments, one's land status, purchases, creative sharing, play, one's rumoured past(?), NDAs, contract status, technical expertise, etc, etc. how does one take all these factors in hand? what measured outcome could be resolved into a singular overall placement in the heirarchy of all of us?

Funny how all of a sudden you're disavowing your original post. You did strike one thing right, though. Words *do* count against you. :P

i'd like to hear what the Linden shills and free thinkers have in mind when the discussion comes to separating the free loaders from the paid participants. aside from the technically inevitably insurmountable issues, could we not have total separation of the account species while still keeping whatever use the free accounts are known for.

I have no money, none, nada.

Hahaha yes very accurate comparison! However horse manure is useful for growing mushrooms, roses and a bunch of other nice things… not sure that stuff in the OP is actually useful for anything 😆

What about the very bottom layer of the pile that's been composting all summer long? I mean after a really really blazing hot summer that's been just cooking away. It's really useful, but it really really is the worst stank of all the horse manure..

hehehe

Trolling 101

Start incendiary topic as bait, abuse report people who take the bait.

Or it's trolling to find out if we have money.

So I am going to change my post to say... I have no money, none, nada.

I'm beginning to think this kind of thing is more trap than trolling.  Even the "do you voice" threads could be scammers looking for those who DO NOT voice so they can try to befriend us inworld with a different avatar and try to get us to click on something and start keylogging us.

I don't trust that trolling thing anymore.  I think there is more to it.  Scammers.

So, btw, OP, I have no money, none.

Now, maybe to anyone in the general audience, you could say, Elise is getting paranoid or maybe wising up in her old age?

Hmmmmmm....trolling or looking for information?

..starting a post with, "I'm high while I write this" may indeed get a mixed response; most people will not take the post seriously, and are not to be blamed if they make fun of the poster.

I'm just saying!

Looking for information is a social media post that asks you for the day and month of your birth so you can find your wizard name, then another that asks for your favorite pet's name and the street you grew up on so you can find your porn actor name.

Bonus: Same author who used "TANSTAAFL" in his stories ("There ain't no such thing as a free lunch"), also wrote, "always check the sandwiches on the free buffet".  By this he meant, someone may have stolen the meat from the "free" sandwiches and left the bread behind.

Kudos if you know which author I'm referring to!

Can I have your mother's maiden name? My data collection is almost complete!

That's too obvious.  I'm beginning to wonder what the purpose of these old trolling threads would be useful for plus saying she smoked cannabis seems a little off.   So, perhaps it's a person who is an attention hog.  Well, what if it's more than that?

So, start thread, look up username inworld with another avatar.  Befriend them.  Try to get them to click on something to start keylogging them.

So from now I won't take this bait from these kinds of threads anymore.  I will say, I have no money, none, nada.

My two cents: The OP (original poster, in case there is any doubt what I mean by "OP") was sincere.

She just happened to be um.."lit" when posting the Original Post.  Which explains the words, lack of capitalization, and candor in expressing what may (obviously, in retrospect) be an unpopular opinion.

The only "trolling" part - again - "in my opinion" - is when someone makes a post like the OP and is somehow "hurt" by our responses, and makes a pre-disposition about "us".  Another example: If we are not in agreement (a "free thinker"), then we must be on LL's side (a "shill").

Other than that, this is a fine thread - it boldly expressed an unpopular opinion, generated some discussion, etc.

This whole thread is starting to remind me of a compost pile with the Original Post on the bottom.
