Inworld, sims labeld adult _and_ sims labeld mature are both exclusivly meant to be visited by adult users. They are both not intended for children. This was more clear back in the old days, when the whole verification process was still used. The main reason for the division between adult and mature is basically a question of taste and keeping the grid from becoming one unpredictable red light district.

But considering that you could have a strip club on an M sim, I guess alcohol would at least fit into that rating. Although I find it a bit silly, to be honest. The reason for alcohol being not free for kids are its real-life chemical components and the effect they have on the body. In SL there is nothing in the bottle, so you could just label it as a fancy apple juice bottle to be "G" again...

That is a very good point.  Have you ever noticed that commercials for beer and other adult beverages on TV never actually show anyone drinking?  Holding a glass, yes.  Raising it up as if to take a swig, yes.  Actually drinking...never!  This is because of long-standing network censorship guidelines.  From the 50's, I think.

(And they're still in place today, when I just saw a supposedly G-rated show (The Flash) air a scene where two guys kissed.  TV is some kinda crazy.)

Interesting. This seems to be a US thing, I guess, because I'm pretty sure I saw people drinking in beer commericals in Germany. I think the only thing that is 100% banned on TV commericals in my country is any advertisment of cigarettes.

Well duh, the show is set in a bar.

The point was, they will censor a 15 second commercial set in a bar of someone drinking a beer, but they are just fine with a 30 minute show set in a bar with people drinking beer..

Yea that guy chugging it is gonna be the thing that has them running out to get beer, more than that frosty mug or that bottle soaked up with condensation..

hehehehe

The forums being general could be why the threads got tagged, where the market place can sell those things in moderate or adult..

the forum general?... that's a joke, it's totally random ... have  look at the employment section ? Most posts there are about the sex industy, publicly and open. Some posts swing the merchandise right in your face without any action taken on that, while there's a adult section that's hardly used.
Even cam prostitution is publicly advertised, in some countries free, but in many that's seen as real prostitution.. who would like his kid see that?..or worse... a underaged one applies to it?

There's a strict policy for kids inworld, but who protects the forums?

The Governance meeting covered the forums a little. Those guys are busy!

They rely on people to flag forum posts. The porn from the sex joints is a huge issue, but it's so full of hardcore photos I don't even want to enter that forum to do the flagging.

That's what they are rated..I don't work here,I just know what they are rated..

How much they enforce that rating is on them. But that's what the actual rating is.

IMO, I really think it all depends on whether or not someone flags something and who is doing the moderating at the time.  So pretty much a crap shoot.

Bottom line is this is whole thing, second life, the marketplace, these forums are all LL's sandbox and they can do whatever they want whenever they want and if it messes you up you are just out of luck.

How can cam sex possibly be considered prostitution? Is phone sex prostitution?

I suppose text sex for money is also prostitution then.

Given that the US didn't invent the word and that many words take on variations in meaning around the world, I'm not surprised that some countries define it different ways.  One or both parties are typically enjoying a sexual climax from the interplay and money is exchanged, so .......
