Inventory Cleaning?

I was looking at another topic and it made me think. How many items does everyone have in their inventory? Do you try to keep it cleaned up or do you just let it go?

I personally have 37,000+ items at the moment but I try to keep it clear of notecards, landmarks, textures, scripts, and unpacking poses I don't need or use. I went through and deleted all of my system layers and skins (nothing against those that use them!) because I went all mesh. I also have a system of organizing that I tend to stick to and try to regularly sort items.

I just thought it'd be interesting to see how others manage their inventory and how many times they have .:)

Annika,  I have 39K+ items in inventory and that doesn't include stuff I've got rezzed on the island (house/furniture/plants/trees/etc.)  :o

I've been going through my inventory to get rid of system clothing I know I won't wear again and I'm looking long and hard at my poses/animations folders since I rarely use any of them.

I try not to think about my holiday folders, but they need some spring cleaning as well.

Haha! Can I employ you to help me with my inventory? The goal is to get it down to 35K possibly tonight. Wish me luck!

It's sometimes hard for me to part with stuff because I sit there staring at it like, "Yeah but I spent REAL money on this." This is why my inventory is a mess at the moment. That and the gifts from events and whatnot. Send help. xD

current count on my most active account 4769 items... 90% clothes

not a creator... i only keep items i really use...and all is sorted in folders.. :)

highest on another account, around 9000.. still not very shocking i think

it's been a lot higher.. but cleaned up a lot.

Before I took my long break from SL, I was running at just under 100k -- I absolutely loved shopping and hunts.  When I came back, I decided to do some major cleaning and get rid of all of the really super old stuff that I knew I would never wear.  I still had stuff from literally my first year here.  I've also been allocating lots of time to trying on things and ditching anything that I cannot say with certainty that I love it and will wear it.  I have deleted lots and have not been buying at the rate that is normal for me.  I'm now down to around 45k, but I know there is still tons that will get trashed soon, never to even have been worn a single time.

My inventory is very well organized - very little in Objects or other generic folders.

When i got to over 15,000 it became so obnoxious to find anything so i spent hours organizing it by making folders such as clothing, furniture, artwork, outdoor stuff, etc.,and then went through and put everything in it's appropriate folder and now as i buy things after i unpack them i for the most part try to put them in the correct folder right away. Sometimes i slack but after a few days of shopping will eventually catch up and i must say it makes finding what i need so much faster.

I tend to hover in the 30-40K range. I use the CTS Wardrobe tool and as a result am fairly constantly organizing things. I do shop a lot but keep it well processed and cleaned out. Over the past year or so I have removed first all of my old system clothing and then more recently been removing anything that is not fitted mesh. The result has been a fairly static inventory count even though I still shop quite often.

My best friend does this with her inventory as well. She goes on a lot more hunts than I do but we have around the same number. She's got a better management system than I do for sure.

it's not that difficult, make a good working folder structure for yourself

for example ( guys inventory!) headfolder Clothes/ subfolders: jeans-jackets-shirts-t shirts-long sleeved shirts-swimwear-underwear-nightwear- ..and so on...

WOW -- congrats on getting it down so far! That's really impressive. I need to continue going through my "sort" folder and getting rid of things that I haven't worn in forever or never worn at all.

I have a system for sure but I got lazy a few months back and now have a nightmare on my hands. Why I do this to myself, I'll never know.

lol.. make it a sweet dream :) don't do it all at one day, start with the new things, and slowly add the others when you wear it

advice of a male:..( don't get shocked ): delete everything you don't use in a few months time.

I wish there was a "shocked" button. xD

I actually have a really good memory for things I've bought. And for things my partner has bought. He doesn't need to organise his inventory; instead he just asks me "What was the name of that [thing] I bought last year?" and I can usually give him the designer name or something like that :$

I tend to be like that as well, especially for brands. I can almost always recall where I bought something and that is often enough to narrow down to what I need.

Your AFK folder alone is probably larger than my entire inventory.

I can remember certain things but if possible I also try to add a keyword to the end of my item folder like "Christmas" so that if I go looking through search it can easily be found.

I still have almost everything I ever bought, and multiple copies of the copy items, every time I try to take my boat out it sinks and gets returned to me, adding one more copy to the growing collection, same thing with my airplane, ect, ect. i went mesh around Christmas but I still have hundreds of outfits in the old system layers, even though i do not use layers for anything other then tattoos anymore. And of course when I buy something now it comes with a Maitreya version I use, plus Slink, TMP, the 5 standard sizes, and all that I never bother to get rid of the ones i don't actually use. Of course this last practice did lead to me finding some things in my old inventory I could use with my new avi.

And that's a good thing! I think it's gone to a somewhat unhealthy obsession for me to try to get my inventory down as far as I can while maintaining all the things I want to keep. I think about 5,000 could be unwanted gacha items too.
