Talligurl Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 In RL if I go into a windowless room or a cave and there are no lights on, it will be so dark I can't see my hand in front of my face. Is such darkness possible in SL, even at the midnight setting there is some light, can even that be turned off. I obviously don't want to take black pictures, but I do have some ideas for pictures illuminated only by light sources with in scene. An example would be me holding a lantern in a cave, where the only light comes from the lantern. Is this possible in SL, if so how?
Talligurl Posted April 23, 2017 Author Posted April 23, 2017 Dwhich means we can't have total control over our images
Bitsy Buccaneer Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 You might be able to fake it by using layers and/or masking and darkening parts of the image or playing with the opacity settings for some of the layers. Good luck.
Tamara Artis Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 (edited) Windlight (SS) Atmos 00:00 2 makes the whole room dark. There are few more, I just took first one from the list In front of my avi is a candle with the light turned on, Intensity: 0.612, Radius: 1.800, Faloff: 1.500. Is this what you had in mind? Edit: typos and just to say that the candle had no texture in the light tab, you can upload any type of texture and it will modify the light in a way that it offers you even more control over it. Feel free to post real life image as an example of want you'd like to recreate in-world and I bet we can think of something! Edited April 23, 2017 by Tamara Artis 4
Talligurl Posted April 23, 2017 Author Posted April 23, 2017 Yes that is exactly what I need thanks 1
Bree Giffen Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 The standard windlight presets might not work but you can just make a new windlight preset and turn off all sun/moon and ambient lights. I use it to test my flashlights. It looks like Tamara found a few presets that are out there.
Chic Aeon Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Just a thought. If you are looking to make some chiaroscuro photos a facelight set to dim OR a globe with some low lighting will likely be necessary. The whole point of that style (which I love) is "light and dark". All dark doesn't really do it :D. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiaroscuro 1
CheriColette Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I look forward to seeing you do that Tali @Tamara Artis Thats a wonderful shot, love how you got her skin glistening in the candle light. 1
Talligurl Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 Yes, it is very ambitious to say the least, but that is how we grow, by stretching our limits. 2
Talligurl Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 My latest experimental shot in learning about light, I had the neon from another picture I did recently for a painting. 5
Talligurl Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 So I had a little bit of time to get on today and I was going to do some more experimenting, as well as try to get some pictures for this art show opening up next week for sensual adult images, but then my SL husband who I hadn't seen in a week was on so I got distracted from the picture taking for a bit,but I did get a few after he left. this is one I did that is forum acceptable. Oh and yes i did get several images that I can use in that show, not all of them in the dark. 2
Tamara Artis Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 This thread makes me want to try something like images you shown, they are all great! And is it allowed to post slurl here? I would love to see that sensual art show. 1
Talligurl Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 I am assuming there will be an announcement of the opening when it actually opens which i think is May 3rd, if there isn't I will make one. 2
Talligurl Posted May 1, 2017 Author Posted May 1, 2017 Ok so today I took this while setting up for the Spring Sensuality show, behind me is my latest experiment with light and shadow. Probably my hottest image on SL yet. 3

Coby Foden Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 There is "Ambient Dark" Windlight. If there are no light sources nearby the scene is completely pitch black, you cannot see anything.
