It says Welcome Second Life Residant. instead of my avatar name. Anyone got any ideas what's going on there? Did you try the Log In at the top right? I don't have to be logged in to see the page.
  2. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Instant-messages/ta-p/700089 The time limit is actually 5 days. The email address is actually for the current IM session, not the avatar, so the email address is only generated after initiation of an IM in world.
  3. Hey Jonathan. The only old timer I ever really met was Pete Fats, but have not seen him on in quite a while. He did pop in a couple of years ago it seems, just to see what was happening, and I was lucky to catch him on. Are you familiar with him? He used to hang out at the bean stalk.

This is like telling someone who showed up outside a grocery store that has just closed, and asks directions to another store that is open, to learn how to grow his own vegetables and raise his own livestock. Sure, its a viable plan for the long-term, but he will go hungry for quite a while before seeing the fruit of his labors.
  5. 10. Because my birthday is on the 10th day of the month.
  6. I fly a lot in dreams, and my dream flight these days has taken on the characteristics of SL flight. I will just gently rise up into a hover, and can fly around and hover at will. I enjoy those dreams immensely. I often get frustrated because I cannot cam around to the other side of an image on a static web page, sometimes going as far as hitting the keys to do so.
  7. That redirect is time limited, 5 days. In other words, that reply link is only for that particular IM session, and will not be valid for emailing the same person at any time. It is also only available after an IM session has been established in SL, and you cannot initiate contact by email. From http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Instant-messages/ta-p/700089 Offline instant messages Instant messages (IMs) can be emailed to you offline at the email address in your Second Life contact information. This feature can be useful to Second Life business owners, socialites, or anyone else who needs to be able to respond to IMs when they are not inworld. If you reply via email to an IM, the original sender receives an IM. You still receive the forwarded IMs the next time you log in (up to 25, because of a technical limit), but you do not see any replies you've made via email. Tip: When replying to an IM by email, there are some limits to keep in mind. For one, you should remove any quoted text from your reply, because instant messages have a maximum length of 1023 characters — if your message is longer than this limit, you receive an automated reply stating that your message was too long to be sent. Also, as stated on the Limits page, you have up to 5 days to reply.

  9. Tako, as mentioned previously, this is the Firestorm bridge. It is normally small and transparent. Erik made all the Linden rocks in the Inventory Library. Not sure why they used one for the bridge. Aurelia, Linden grass is created from the build menu, just like you rez a cube. Erik also made the Linden plants. If you were building something and the selection was on grasses, then you may have rezzed it incidentally. The two are not connected, however.
  10. I still remember vividly my first rite of passage. It was my first "commercial" effort at creating. I had been in SL for 2 months, playing at building and learning the ropes, but this was my first "Aha!" that started me on a project. It was November, nearing Christmas, and it was inspired by my RL Christmas memories as a child, as we always had one in our home. It was a set of Angel Chimes. I took a freebie menu script and modded it to work with my creation, and even sampled some chime sounds, and edited and looped the sound. It was the next day from when I had finished them, and was showing my then landlady in SL my new creation. I was so proud! She wanted 3 of them on the spot for gifts! I had to learn how to sell something to someone, she had to teach me. Man was I stoked. Caught the building bug for sure at that moment. I also had a 512 of first land (yes, it was that long ago) and had it on display for sale there. One day I logged in to find a sale of my chimes.. to a Linden! For a noob I was walking 10-feet tall.
  11. Rhett Linden wrote: The default is for Friends to be Followers so that if you "unfollow" a Friend you are still Friends but you will not see all their posts. Not so default as you think. My friends have never been followed or followers, only the people I have manually add are followed, and only those who have chosen so are followers, neither of which are in my friends list.
  12. This is certainly not happening to me. My friends are not included in the people I follow, or that follow me. Strange stuff afoot, lol. BTW, my settings remained undisturbed.
  13. Thanksgiving is still pretty traditional around our house. Turkey/ham, southern style cornbread dressing with plenty of sage, home baked bread or rolls, several pumpkin pies, cranberry dressing. However, come Christmas time we started doing different ethnic foods each year. One year it was Indian with multiple curries and fresh baked naan with eggplant dishes. One year we made Greek with oven roasted potatoes, fresh made pita bread, gyro meat (made from fresh ground beef and lamb and cooked on a spit over the grill) and tzatziki (that wonderful sauce made from yogurt). Chinese food is a favorite, as are Thai and Vietnamese. One year it was sort of French with steak au poivre (rib eyes smothered with coarse pepper and seared in olive oil) with a red wine reduction from the drippings and fresh baked bread. I just love to cook. Some of the standards though at Christmas is the eggnog. I make about 2-1/2 gallons of eggnog from scratch, seasoned with Brandy, Whiskey and Rum. Then there is Rum cake made with a bundt pan, pudding mix in the recipe, and smothered with a sweet rum sauce till its almost soggy (YUM!). Another favorite drink is Glogg, a mulled wine using many spices, served warm with raisins and a shot of vodka for those cold nights. We do a few gifts, mainly for the kids, but the food and family is what I love. This year we are all scattered out though, and the celebrations will be quite a bit less festive.
  14. Well the OP does refer to himself as "her BF in RL." I did assume this to mean "boyfriend in real life." It could be his avatar is female, and they were already role playing as lesbian lovers.
  15. Or you could use the opportunity to explore role play as gay male lovers. Kinky!
  16. I loved Firestorm Mesh-Beta, but search will absolutely not work for me in that. Just a blank window opens. The development viewers are just that, still in development, but they are doing something correct with them. My wife has a rather sizeable inventory, and has not been involved much in SL for health reasons in quite a while. While attempting recently to log-in again, she was unable to fully log-in with either rendition of Firestorm, neither mesh or non-mesh, but she can log in to the development viewer effortlessly, and this on a lower spec machine for SL. So beyond the UI that I love, the development viewer seems to run well.
  17. I have been a TPV user for the past few years, but recently started using the latest development viewer. I love the minimal/configurable interface, and while it does not have all the features of, it runs superbly for me, as well as or possibly better than Phoenix/Firestorm.
  18. valerie Inshan wrote: Make sure you make this object "physical" and not "phantom". Actually, there is no need to set an object "physical" to be able to walk on it. Not selecting "phantom" is all that is required. Setting an object to "physical" means that it inherits physical attributes such as mass, and can be affected by force, etc. This is not necessary for static objects.
  19. I am Watching it. Remember, the Lindens indicated that they will no longer look at votes to determine relevance, but on the number of people watching the issue.
  20. This is a user forum. You need to contact Linden Lab business offices for information like that.
  21. It never happened. "We have never been at war with Eurasia."
  22. I understand it sounds absurd, but I cannot help but wonder if the same or a different outcome would have transpired had the official channel been used to report content that was thought to be inappropriate, regardless of who posted it.
  23. I am not completely in the loop on the events that transpired, just loosely so, but I assume that those who suffered the heavy hand of the moderators made their concerns known in open by posting about it. Did anyone try to address the Vamp forum faux pas by the official channel, i.e., by RICing them?
