  1. Can in Opensim so would be surprised if one could not in SL though I have not seen any.
  2. Assumes it has to do with this page: https://www.burn2.org/who-is-burn2/come-to-burn2/#get-started/ Burning Man in Second Life (BURN2) BURN2 is the first sanctioned Burning Man regional in the virtual world. Burning Man has always had a presence in Second Life since its beginning, and BURN2 is the latest incarnation of Burning Man presence there. Today, BURN2 occupies a region in Second Life year-round called Deep Hole, with extra regions added to their virtual space during special events. It is run by a group that includes people involved directly with Burning Man, along with seasoned Second Life programmers and digital artists with a genuine interest in Burning Man. The BURN2 community is a mix of those who attend real-life Burning Man as well as people from all over the world who may never have the opportunity to visit the real playa, but share a genuine interest in Burning Man. For many, BURN2 is their Burning Man experience. Together, we celebrate Burning Man culture in the unique environment of Second Life. BURN2 activities are primarily event-based with each event having a planning stage, building stage, holding the event, then tearing down. Several small events are held each year, with the main event held in October. This event is a week long and echoes the Burning Man playa "look and feel" each year. This event, also referred to by the community as "OctoBurn" uses more virtual space and requires more planning and preparation.
  3. This assumes that those individuals aren't teens physically and also assumes they are more mature outside of SL emotionally. That is a lot of assuming. Also dependent on who or what is applying the yardstick that they should be measuring up to.
  4. It is probably your best bet. The forums are really not that safe as one can easily wind up in a debate and then in answer to an antagonistic poster, respond in kind resulting in being reported and a warning threatening your whole account.
  5. Question is whether they are real people or just bots. Plenty of others have complained about the privacy invasions of the bots which is really more of an issue of LL's bot policies rather then privacy hating nomads.
  6. Dang, an airplane flying into my skybox would be a highlight of my day! Afterwards I might ask myself what it is about me or my skybox that attracts people flying into it though.
  7. But how prevalent is griefing really these days? Seem to hear a lot less of it nowadays then say 10 years ago.
  8. That will undoubtedly up the retention rate more then many other things.
  9. Bonus eh? Less residents to complain about.
  10. Considering how empty a lot of sandboxes are these days, it should be suggested to leave junk laying around so others will see at least some evidence of life in SL. 😏
  11. Not much different from what you said in a previous post: The difference being the labelling of good/evil vs sick/healthy. The difference may seem moot but the good/evil label requires a judge for its resolution whereas the sick/healthy needs a healer. When one chooses to put it all into the perspective of good and evil, it automatically forces one to start judging the behaviours of others and that is not healthy.
  12. dysfunctional flawed broken defective inhibited maladjusted malfunctional undermined unfit wounded healthy would be a lack of any of those.
  13. Was pointed out to me years ago that instead of looking at people as being good or evil, to view them as well as myself as being mentally, emotionally and spiritually sick or healthy or somewhere in between. Jesus and other spiritual teachers in past came as healers of the sick (physical, emotional and spiritual) rather then coming to make evil people good. So one is not a bad person trying to be good but rather a sick person trying to become well. But as Luna pointed out already, a lot of us live in a state of denial and unable to see how sick we really are.
  14. Whether it is a game or a social platform depends on how the individual resident chooses to use it. Therein lies the beauty of Secondlife or Opensim. Some use it as a dress up game, some use it like a monopoly game, accumulating properties and renters, some use it for the weapons and shootups that can be found around the grids. Some use it for racing of vehicles, some use it for adult activities, notching their bedposts for every quickie sex conquest they make. And some actually use it to socialize with others although in that regard it is a somewhat dying platform. Game or social, it is up to the individual.
  15. Ok so Osgrid then though the rest of the hypergrid is also run by individuals vs a company that proves it doesn't need a for-profit company to be in charge.
  16. Was just recently (last 6 months) where it was mentioned being around $500 million now.
  17. Yes but a pet peeve of mine is alcohol as an ingredient because I have an allergy to it in that it makes me break out in places that I'd rather not be so I avoid it like the plague!
  18. Dubblezoute drop (double salted licorice drops) might be better because the salt is a better anti bacterial agent?
  19. Not much different from those who might log into the world and then go afk because they are in the forums for their waking moments.
  20. Opensim seems to be doing ok for almost as long (15 years) as SL.
  21. They haven't been doing very good at it. When people say "yes but look how well SL is still doing" they fail to recognize it is in spite of the Lab, not so much because of it. What keeps this place going is the residents, not the Company. They are just along for the financial benefit.
  22. First off, we're talking a screen sharing program, most of which can be made to isolate by app so that only the viewer would be accessible by the remote assisting person. In this thread it is for the benefit of the new person who doesn't as yet have an inventory full off items. Could they be griefed? Sure, just like they can be griefed by giving them bad mentoring advice. That was why maybe the OP suggested they be vetted by LL right at the start and like mentors already are. Style cards are not really a solution as even then following directions to the letter can result in a bad result which a new person will not know how to troubleshoot and the person helping cannot either unless they are highly experienced and have made a similar mistake as in for example applying tattoo 2 before tattoo 1. Style cards are only as good as the original creator of them and I seen enough that were not that well done that resulted in a particular head look taking days to do because the items listed had been moved, taken off the market, modified, didn't list the lighting used for the photo and on and on. If the mentor is blind to what the newbie is seeing, it is near impossible to help them set some it right. Newbie gets frustrated and upset and trashes it all and quits, whereas 10 -15 minutes of screen sharing can quickly resolve it and shows the newbie the methodology for doing it in future. Screen sharing programs are used by millions of people around the world without issue but we have too many swindlers and griefers in SL to be able to find a few trustworthy ones to help out in such a manner? If that is what some think, maybe that says something about the people they hang with inworld.
  23. The inventory is not comprised of Gold bullion, just some freebie or low cost and mostly No Transfer items where it would be very helpful to a new person to be shown how to wear, add, move, copy, organize and outfit the items around rather then spend oodles of time trying to voice or text to tell them how. A half hour or so of remote assistance will save them months of messing around trying to learn it in other ways because 75% of learning the viewer is knowing what questions to ask, which is much more efficiently shown. Even now with years of accumulation of inventory I would not be so paranoid as to refuse someone remote assisting the organization of it so I can spend my time doing what I enjoy vs cleaning up that mess I have accumulated because I didn't have someone showing me early on how to organize that cluster f**k mess Secondlife calls the inventory UI.
