  1. Strangely nobody talks about the adult content. The white elephant in the room, where everybody knows about, but it is treated as if the Voldemort of SL. Look at what the best sellers are on the marketplace. Chairs and couches has 6 sit poses these days, dozens of cuddle poses and tons of adult movements. Same goes for refrigerators, barbecues, boats, outdoor furniture, even walls lately. Taken that into consideration, the vast majority must be in SL for the adult part (too). Maybe that should be advertised a bit more.
  2. Very sad news. Rest in peace Ebbe and thank you for all you did for our Second Life community. My condolences to family, friends and colleagues.
  3. The dollars they see on their firms bank account show them to continue or not. They don't care if there are millions online, but if there are enough millions in revenue for the efforts they put in to it.
  4. The years where I thought SL was the best thing since the invention of sliced bread lay around 2007-2009. I would go up the barricades if needed in those years, but a lot of that has changed since then. I'm no longer addicted to the platform. I still have some fun with it, but when it would shut its gates tomorrow for good, I would only be sorry for the handful of L$ that are on my bank account alt and maybe loosing contact with one or two dear people I know because of and in SL only. But I could live with the closure, as much as I do when SL continues for a while. SL is no necessity for me any more.
  5. Not all are dreamers who shut their eyes for reality and dream away all the flaws they see in their environment. If there is a leaking roof, than the roof is leaking despite whatever fantasies you may dream around it.
  6. True, but it takes a lot more effort to do so, and there is a chance you get muted within 2 or 3 prim deliveries. Over the marketplace one can get hundreds of people bombarded with hundreds of items, before one gets muted or suspended.
  7. 1. When into clothing, demo's are key. Not only in your store but also on the marketplace. I always found working for the marketplace pretty boring, but these days a good marketplace store is becoming essential. The MP is for SL what Google is in RL. And just as in RL online stores become more and more accepted and important. Ordering while at the office or during lunch breaks. 2. Use a catching simple brand name, and keep using that on every thing, your vendor pictures, your marketplace pictures, in your signature line on the forum, your blog, wherever you post something. It doesn't have to be big, but consistent. And stick with it. Don't change it. Look at big companies like Pepsi, Coke, McDonalds, KFC, Philips. They change colors or letter types very rarely, and not for nothing. People start remembering when they see things often enough. Back in the prim days I had a successful door store. It's name: The DoorStore. Everybode knew where it was about the moment they saw the name. I could have named it Chez Sid as well, but that could be a restaurant, a bar or a whatever too. Recently I started with some goods on the marketplace again. This time I have choosen 3 letters as a logo. Nobody knows where they stand for, but I think it could work if I just stick to it. 3. Be honest about your products. Show them at their best, but don't make the pictures look a lot better than it looks in SL. Look at the discussions about the new second life homepage here on the forums, there are many people who dislike that. 4. Have good customer support. Avoid self important people: customer is king, but don't jump through every hoop presented either. 5. Don't expect to get rich over night. SL is full with oldbies who already have their inventory more then filled with everything. The days that you only had to put stuff up to sell it to a newbie are long gone. There are thousands of new products everyday on the marketplace. Every market segment is flooded with items. I'm back in as a merchant for about 6 months or so, and now I'm getting to the point that I make tier for my 4096 plot most of the weeks. I have to admit that I'm a slow not easily satisfied builder. Most of what I make ends up in the trash pile somewhere in the process. 6. Don't put all your free time in your shop, how exciting it might be. SL has a lot more to offer than you alone, somewhere on a platform. So does RL. There is always that next event where you can participate in. Pick them carefully. If you're not careful, the store dictates your life, which The DoorStore did with me for a few months, It was not a good choice to be honest. Have fun.
  8. And it should not be for freebies either. Trolls could bombard your account with freebies and demo's just for the 'fun' of it. BTW Nice new avatar picture Rowan.
  9. First thought was: Is someone discounting\giving away a head again? Then I checked but for me the MP is up and running.
  10. So basically no one down at Linden Lab expected that people would actually try to make homes out of their houses by using some of their LI allowance. 18 Years in, and still not knowing enough of the basics about how and why their customers use SL.
  11. I think at times what the heck with it too. The texture 'experience' (read chaos) in Bellisseria makes me very grumpy lately. The houses there are pretty much useless with the constant adjusting textures. I have the feeling I'm pretty close to a longer (maybe even a real long) break away from SL.
  12. I'd pay to see someone like Dua Lipa live in concert somewhere near me, but I would not even leave my SL house to hear her perform and see some avatar wiggle on a SL stage and pay for a ticket. Even a tiny desk concert on YouTube exceeds that experience.
  13. The other day I saw an article about a company coming to the market with a 3D laptop, that doesn't need goggles. That might be a huge step in the right direction for 3D if that turns out to be a success. If I recall right it was Acer that announced one.
  14. It could be the pH value (acidity) of your body as well. The average person has a pH value between 7.35-7.45. So they make vaccines with pH values around 7.4 Same goes with insulin injections. I'm a diabetic and use insulin and normally that is no big deal to inject once you are used to do it. But there are days when the bodies pH values are higher or lower than average. Then the insulin burns like hell when injected. Case of bad luck.
  15. Just open the marketplace, klick most popular products, while adult enabled, and you see why SL is still there despite of all the faults and shortcomings (even after all these years) and it also gives a clue why almost nobody from the SL audience felt the need to go to Sansar.
  16. It is very important to relax your arm muscles when you get the jab. Just let it hang relaxed next to your body. No muscle tension at all. And then, don't give it a second thought if possible.
  17. I tried and came to the conclusion that the best selling products option is not really helpful for me. But it shows perfectly why SL is still around after 18 years despite of all the sometimes even basic flaws the platform still suffers from. Almost all people say they come to SL to explore, but obviously a lot of them don't mean the nice Bellisserian scenery or other builds then. Thinking of SL all of a sudden a James Brown hit comes to my mind, which title I better not mention here.
  18. Yeah, of course it is always best to shut down the computer before visitors arrive, but I ain't gonna lock up my computer behind passwords in my own house.
  19. Me waves as an AstraZenica junkie without any side effects at all. Other than that I have to listen to a sobbing Bill Gates telling his divorce stories almost every night now through the implanted micro chip.
  20. People who had no side effects at all from the injections (like me) don't have a story to tell. The ones that had some side effects do have a story. So it might look that most people have some issues after the jabs, but that is not so. Most people have no or almost no effects after their vaccination.
  21. Other people do have the choice to not be nosy and leave my computer alone. So not really my problem.
