  1. I only used the Emerald thingy to show that there have been some not totally honest TPV writers in the past already. Now I´m no programmer at all, but I recon it should be possible to disguise users through coding, by taking over the log in process. unnoticed, by collecting the username and password, save them for later use, and then give them to the LL log in process as if nothing happened. Question of a split second. Again, I´m not accusing anyone, just simply asking if it could be possible for criminal minds to do so. I think the answer is yes. But I would love to read what others think about that.
  2. Asking for the use of any TVP, and certainly not to accuse someone of something, but simply in general: Isn't it relatively easy to program a step 1a into the procedure for those TPV coders who would have criminal minds, where the author has a quick peek at the user and password information (and store it somewhere) before putting it in the safe hands of LL? We once had coders with criminal ideas already, something with green or so, remember?
  3. One of SL mayor rules: Whatever can be gamed, shall be gamed. Extensively.
  4. A lot of private estates don't allow them in their covenant, but sadly a lot of the landlords do very little to nothing to enforce those parts of their covenant.
  5. Where do you read that it does not apply for SL-dj's? 1. SL-djs ain't strictly nonprofit. 2. The text you quote states that non profits have to pay USD 1,000 a year as well, but have better terms then. I'm just explaining that the legal matter behind dj-ing in SL is complicated, not only under Dutch law but internationally as well. And for the rest, for me: whatever floats your boat. DJ as much as you like, where you like in or outside SL, with pirated copies or not, abusing streaming services like Spotify or not, with or without appropriate licensing. I'm fine with that, but I'm not the law enforcement. I have written more than enough about this matter by now, here and in that other thread, and I tiptoe out of this discussion.
  6. And there lies the real problem. It is not possible to obtain a license to stream to all countries of the world, which is possible trough SL. The most extended international Internet broadcasting license service I found so far covers 37 countries. My conclusion: It is hardly if not totally (im)possible to dj legally in SL or stream to your land if others than you and your RL family have access to it . But of course it is mainly on the same level as 'borrowing' textures and models for SL on the Internet.
  7. I'm not sure why someone with so much forums experience as you have, can jump to that conclusion. There are threads going on in some forums since Abraham Lincoln* invented the Internet about whether or not to place a comma in a particular sentence, in threads that where originally about whether or not Edison really invented some sort of light bulb or if Jules Verne was right with his speculations about the moon in his new novel. 😁 * or was it All Gore?
  8. My next car will be a private lease one. That puts the trade in and sell again problem with the car dealer. But first a few more years with my current car.
  9. Yup, in the NL radio and TV are strictly broadcasted for private use. Doesn't matter if you play national, commercial or foreign radio or TV stations. Everything in a commercial setting needs a commercial license (depending on the amount of average listeners/viewers).
  10. In my student time I DJ-ed in RL as a student job. And requests were only full filled A if the record was in the venue (this was pre Internet) B if the requested song could be fitted in in the program somehow. Hardrock in a soul show? Forget it. I never spinned for tips anyhow.
  11. LL has and is complying with international laws. Just 3 letters VAT. Not noticeable for US customers, but all Europeans can sing you a song about it. Nothing yada, yada about it. US companies have to comply international rules if they offer services to international customers over the Internet. If they don't do so, they have to shut down their service for Europeans.
  12. How can I as a customer know if a gig is licensed properly or not and how and from which country he/she is streaming? The one who streams is responsible, not the one who listens IMHO. Not the patient gets the bill and or fine but the dentist. And of course Innula is right that chances are not that big that someone will check SL. Question is, are you as streaming person willing to take them?
  13. Well, here in the NL the license offices even visit barber shops, snack shops and dentist offices to check if there is music out of a speaker to hear by the customers. If yes: Pay swiftly please or we see you in court. All these places have seldom more listeners than an avarage SL bar during an event. Anyhow it is reason enough for me not to DJ in SL and I have no music on my parcels.
  14. There is a recent thread about all that. How to dj legally in SL. I still haven't found a possibility that covers a license to stream all over the world as would be required for SL, because you never know where your audience comes from. Not even ridiculous high prized (in regard to SL streaming) internet streaming licenses have world wide coverage. A license for the US is not covering guests from Europe or Asia etc. So basically my guess: Streaming legal is impossible or very hard to sort out. I have my doubts if it is possible at all. LL states clearly that licensing is not their responsibility in their TOS in an effort to cover their back. But if that is enough to hold in court, I don't know, they provide the opportunity .... But I guess the LL layers had a say in the TOS.
  15. Same here. At the moment I'm more or less on the break even point with my current SL business. When it ever makes more, I will spend more inworld just like you. Most likely on more land. Who knows even a public place. With my first shop I spend a lot on in world charities and helped out a few friends with L$. I ain't gonna go through the extra paperwork for the tax office, just to take out a hand full of USD occasionally. So yeah, what I did so far in SL is pure hobby, even though I made L$ at times.
  16. Where did you get the idea that you can't make some money out of a hobby?
  17. @Jaylinbridges Thanks for letting me look like a fool with this post where I was explaining you something, by editing your posts above the way you did. Much appreciated.
  18. When I hear and see the new theme a few days or weeks later than the rest, I'll be fine. It's not like a Christmas Eve experience for me. Thinking of it: The North Pole could be a cool theme.
  19. I agree, SL has vast limitations to make a real income. Being in SL and working in SL can be a real great time, 'Your World, Your Imagination' is still true. But you better have a realistic expectation as well. Artists, builders, designers, club owners better understand that before they start, to not get disappointed pretty soon.
  20. This may sound harsh (but we Dutch can be pretty straight forward at times): If you want to make RL wages, work in RL. If I would go flipping burgers somewhere or even take a job as paper boy, I would make a lot more than banging on things for hours for my SL store. SL is there for the fun of it. Making a RL living is more a dream than a reality. Sure the producers of the major mesh body and head branches for instance might (will) make a decent RL income, but those who do are exceptions from what is normal: Working long hours for peanut returns (measured in RL money). SL can bring some extra beer money. That is way more realistic. But better take whatever you do for SL as a hobby. And everybody who has been around a bit in SL knows owning a club/bar/disco in SL is a money pit. Accept that fact or don't even start one.
  21. In RL I seldom tip with an amount where you can buy a house for. I don't do that in SL either. I'm not responsible for people who want to make a RL living out of SL. And I'm not responsible for the business model of a venue either. In my (European colored) book a tip is a sign of appreciation for the extra someone does, not to help to make a living.
  22. I would announce the request and then start good old Rick Ashley to stump back. The Spice Girls would do great also or an early Justin Bieber.
  23. A few things that I most likely would do if I was setting up a photo business: 1. Showcase your work wherever you can. There are threads enough here on this forum where people showcase theirs. Don't ask for customers. Just keep using your sig. 2. There are other places that talk about SL. Have a look there as well if there are possibilities to showcase your work. Maybe set up an own blog. 3. If you can afford it, keep your land a bit longer, but don't use it as a photo studio but as a gallery, again to showcase your work. Make an event out of it. That you can promote at the right place here on the forums. Advertise it in search. Maybe even get it featured in the destination guide. I never dived into that, but if others can get it there, there must be ways. 4. Use the whole of SL as your photo studio. Find interesting places, sort out interesting lightnings, think out of the box. 5. Don't expect to get rich over night. You are long enough in SL to know that the place if full of oldies who have seen and done it all, with totally overloaded inventories. I had my store in 2007 from scratch to success (meaning at least covering expenses) in a few weeks. A few months later it was making more L$ then I spend in SL. I stopped with it a few years later due to changing circumstances. Took a break from SL. Now I'm fiddling with a new shop again, I'm several months into it and still happy when I make tier most of the weeks and even that only happens since the last month. Being a merchant has become a lot harder. I only build for the fun of it now. Getting really lazy with building at times. Getting really successful again as I once was, is no longer my goal. Times have changed, in SL too.
  24. I don't know about the SL cloud, but I'm on 100% green (sustainable) electricity and the new server parks from Google and Microsoft in the NL too (thanks to our tax money)
