  3. I demand questions! (and rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty!)

It doesn't have the sort of options that you suggested though. yes. Is not used bc we the visitor have to pay before we can enter the sim/parcel. A pay unsighted proposition the idea is that we the owner/organiser want you to come, to see what we offer, and then we monetarise you once we got you in our event/venue. the law of Arkwright (: is the same with a flyover in practice. Given pay before you flyover or fly round, then people will fly round. Alternative: is free to enter my (air)space. Is not free to stay here I've seen a variation of this. The majority of the parcel was set as 'group only' with a L$500 fee to join. The landing point was parcelled separately, probably about an 8m x 8m spot somewhere within the main parcel. Anyone could land there and look through the banlines to see what was going on before paying their membership. Not really applicable to flying over, but workable for general access.

Then the jet fighter zooms up by you and says: right-click on me and pay me the 10L safe passige corridor fee over this land or I will shoot you down. You have 3 seconds to pay or will be doom for you (: Genius! Except to the "all ur stuffs belong to me" crowd. ah!ha. hmm! ok i had another idea for this crowd just before it shoots them down, the fighter gives a notecard which says something like: "seems like you a poor person. I have good news. Here is the LM to the avatar welfare work scheme: (LM to Linden Realms). Do some work mowing lawns for about half hour and can get paid 10L. then come back ok" (: Yay, free bullets!
  6. Anything ranging from 3 to 6, depending on how good they are at it and how flirty I feel. Generally the same if they're a different gender, no apparent gender, or some combination of genders. I'm still picky, just picky from a bigger range of options.
  7. Unfortunately, you made a mistake. We've all done it from time to time, out of haste or inexperience. So learn from what happened. There's nothing in the description to suggest that this avatar is Maitreya compatible. Perhaps "some say" that it is, but some people will tell you anything. Even if a vendor description claims something, treat it with a pinch of salt until you've checked with a demo (or you have plenty of experience with that brand's fit). Especially when it's something you consider expensive. What people might have been saying about Maitreya compatibility is that they have some rigged (non-applier) Maitreya outfits that fit the avatar. It's a possibility, but the only way to be sure is to try demos for any outfits you'd consider buying. Other rigged mesh might work too... I've got nonstandard avs that *some* Standard Size mesh fits fine. It's very much trial and error unless the rigging is specifically designed for the avatar.

Does it get away with turning away people of a different colour? How often has that been "allowed" before people spoke up and it is no longer the case? Think on it. 'the law'? Which law? Whose law, and in which jurisdiction? eta: don't get me wrong, I'm not in favour of unfair discrimination, but there isn't 'a law' against it worldwide, and we're talking about a worldwide community here.
  9. Some good advice along the way here, but also accept that some people will take offence however careful you are. Sometimes it's something you've said, but often people misinterpret what is said due to differing social conventions or difficulties with language. A small but nastily vocal minority seem to be intent on finding offence in whatever is said or written (often these are the NO DRAMA people). Maybe you do have a problem and manage to upset people by mistake; I think we all do now and then. But bear in mind that there are people out there who are out for drama by any means necessary, and you might just have run into a few of those.
  10. I'll fork-give you if you've fork-gotten this movie.
  11. There are two reasons why an pose would end that I can think of. 1) the animation has a defined run-time. Some animations run forever (actually, they loop), others run for a predetermined time then end. 2) another animation with a higher priority takes over. Often this is when an AO animation starts up. To stop this happening, switch off your AO while trying to pose. If your AO was off, and nothing else was animating your avatar, then the animation is not looping. This is very unusual for a pose animation, which normally run for as long as they are active. You could get around it by putting it in a scripted obejct which keeps triggering the pose, but my money is on something else animating you.
  12. As far as I know, 'the app in question' is Android-only, and the OP might be an iPhone user. I can confirm that 'the app in question' is definitely still available.
  13. HollyCarruthers wrote: Hi, I bought some pretty high heels but when I wear them it appeas that my feet float above the shoes rather than fitting within them. Worse, my feet appear to have white socks on them. When I read posts on the subject they all assume some level of knowledge about various SL gaming aspects. I have NO previous knowledge of operating in SL. My experience is with Sims 3. All the information I can offer is that I began with a Classic Avatar (I believe it was Kimberly). Can anyone explain -- at the kindergardten level -- how to buy and wear high heeled shoes for women? Thanks! PS - I purchased (: Lady Pumps - Black & White by PixelFashion Product. Those are shoes for mesh feet. If you don't have Slink compatible mesh feet, they won't fit. eta: apologies for the very brief reply, but it was late and I didn't have time for more detail.
  14. You don't need to panic so much. Worst case, she can animate you and put stuff in your inventory. Don't accept any further permissions from her and you'll be fine. Whatever embarrasment she can put your avatar through, RLV can't give her access to your L$ (unless you grant debit permissions to an object, and that'd be true even without RLV). It can't let her log into your account, access land settings you own, mess with groups you run, read your email, IMs or notecards, or steal anything but your dignity. The thing with animations is a old hack from before RLV. Once you've granted animation permissions, an object can keep them for as long as it's rezzed or worn. Unless that's been changed, there's nothing much you can do about it, apart from stay away from the perpetrator. (eta: see what others have written about 'revoke permissions'). Turning RLV off can mean different things. Just setting it to off doesn't have any effect until you relog. It also can only work through an object you wear, usually a collar or relay. So if you aren't wearing either (and don't wear objects you're unsure about) RLV can't affect you. Nothing else I'm aware of can force you to accept objects, so I'm not sure what's happening there. Anyone can *offer* an object, of course, regardless of RLV, but that doesn't mean you have to accept it. As far as snarky answers go... tough. Snarkers will snark. This is General Discussion, not a confidential RLV helpline. Telling them not to will only encourage them.
  15. Ricky Shaftoe wrote: Thanks for your reply. I may contact the person, as you suggest. Is it possible to change the wind direction? I'm almost certain the answer is no. Wind is simulated and tends to vary constantly. Avatars can't affect it*, but it can be measured by a script function and shown onscreen through the Advanced/Developer menu (Develop > Consoles > Wind on the viewer I use). Flexible prims can be set to respond to wind, and, as you've noticed, so can particles. *I've read that way back in SL history, a moving avatar had a small effect on local wind conditions. By moving at speed in a circle, it was possible to create a small whirlwind.

  17. That appears to be a rigged mesh item. Rigged mesh cannot be edited for position, size or rotation using the object edit tools.

  19. Shoes, in SL, can consist of several parts. 1) The 'default avatar shoe' is a clothing item (represented by a small red shoe icon in inventory) which changes the shape and/or colour of the avatar around the foot and ankle. It is now commonly used as a 'foot shaper' and 'height adjuster'. In your image it is the white shaded and blocky part of the avatar foot. Removing the shoe will remove the white & blocky shape, but it won't make those shoes fit. 2) Some form of attachment (prim, sculpt or mesh) in the shape of a shoe (an object, represented by a cube icon in inventory). Those are the lilac shoe-shaped things in your image. If they are rigged mesh, they can be a single attachment, often they are one attachment for each shoe, on either the foor or lower leg. 3) An alpha mask, a clothing item which hides part of the default avatar (represented by a white & grey hashed shirt icon in inventory). It looks like you should be wearing one of these. 4) An invisiprim. These are an old method of hiding body parts from before alpha masks were available. A lot of older shoes and boots use them, but they are broken under Advanced Lighting in most viewers. Ideally they should no longer be used. Invisiprims were often part of a shoe/boot attachment, but were sometimes worn separately. It's possible your shoes use these, but they don't show up because invisiprims are now out of date. (sort of) 5) A sculpted, mesh or rigged mesh foot (also a cube icon in inventory). Because the default avatar foot is an ugly flipper with vague toe-shapes painted on, open-toed shoes are often designed around a replacement foot. Sometimes they were built into the shoe. These days they are usually rigged mesh and have shoes rigged to match them. Your shoes are either designed for a footshaper and an alpha, a footshaper and an invisiprim, or a replacement foot and alpha (and probably a footshaper too). You need to find the correct combination intended for them to make them work.
  20. Locked so they aren't accidentally knocked off by wearing another attachment? You can use an RLV/RLVa capable viewer (Firestorm, Catznip, UKanDo, RL and probably others). Many RLV relays have options for locking attachments by location (and the other RLV functions are easily disabled), or you can add a script to a moddable object to lock it.
  21. Fennet wrote: ... Honestly, I'm not even sure I know what a mega prim is. ... Back in the day, the maximum dimension for a prim was 10m on any axis, which wasn't terribly useful for building large structures. So an 'innovator' found a way to make them bigger. MUCH bigger. Some were useful for legitimate purposes, others were potential griefing tools (one was a 256m cube that could cause weird effects because anyone teleporting to a sim would rez *inside* it). A later viewer hack made it possible, for a short time, for anyone to create >10m prims. Many of us did so (mostly for non-nefarious reasons) and made them available free-of-charge. I've still got a few that are outside the 60m max, but I've not tried to rez any in a while. I think they work, but as soon as you try to resize them they snap to the 60m maximum. Eventually LL saw sense and set the maximum prim size to what it is today. TL;DR a megaprim is a prim bigger than the maximum dimensions LL allow. Some were used for griefing, many weren't.
  22. Just south of 66K. Mesh body, hands, feet, hair, earrings, sunglasses, dress and shoes. eta: while working on this, I found a pair of mesh shoes with an render cost of around 80K, but most pairs I have are in the 1000-8000 range.
  23. My best guess (if you've applied a texture manually)... That bar across the forehead is a separate face for the eyebrows. It usually has different textures to the rest of the head, as well as different alpha and colour settings. *** Make a copy with your progress so far *** In the edit floater, check 'select face'. Click on the area which is the problem. It's possible that it's just a tinting problem, so look at that that first. Is the tint in the colour editor different? Does changing it to white help? If not, it's most likely the texture. The texture panel for that face should not show the texture you're adding to the head, but a mostly transparent texture with white eyebrows on it. If you've changed that texture and don't have the original to go back to, I'd recommend starting from fresh with a saved copy (or unpack a new one). When you add textures, make sure that face is unselected so you don't change the eyebrow textures.
  24. Looks very similar to the problem in this thread which is particular to Mac users.
