  1. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Tutys-Jing-FREEBIE-ORIENTAL-SKIN-FULL-SET-OF-MAKE-UP/646472 The free Tuty's/MrS skin I mentioned. Great freebie. edit: Just to be careful, I'll apologise for any offence I might have caused by the terms 'Oriental' and 'Asian'. I beleive 'East and South-East Asian' is more correct, and still might not be inclusive enough of all the variety of Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Thai, Laotian, Korean and many other peoples.
  2. Tuty's sell Japanese and Chinese skins and a range of celebrity shapes to go with them (Lucy Liu, Zhang Ziyi etc.). They also have a freebie 'Oriental' skin which is a useful base for experimenting with shapes. You could also try DrLife and Tokyo Girl. I'm sure there are many others.

Rather than keep it as a statue, is there any way to turn it into an Avatar so that it can be used other than as a replica? I cannot get the body parts on my avatar (The basic human shapes) to go invisible, nor can I find any proper way to animate it with Qavimator. ... To make the human avatar mesh go invisible, use the alpha layer. There's an 'invisible avatar' alpha in the inventory library under 'body parts'. This assumes you are using Viewer 2 or a compatible 3rd party viewer. As I'm one of the few people who've still not played minecraft, I've not seen a creeper in action, so I've no idea how it moves (something tells me it creeps!). It sounds like you need some form of quad (four-legged) AO with the creeper limbs attached to your avatar's arms & legs. Grendel's http://slurl.com/secondlife/Avaria%20Tor/201/155/250 is a good source of inexpensive (sometimes even free) avatars to experiment with, many with quad AOs and insectile movements.
  4. Credit has to go to the creator of the av - skin, ears and hooves from Violent Seduction. I added the horn, hair, and the tail (which I made from the hair braids). Shape is my own.
  5. Indeed, one of the main activities here on the forum is showing off avatars, either here or in the fashion section. And I can't resist a vanity thread either, especially with a new av to show off. Actually, it's not a new av, but an old one I retuned and tweaked a bit with new hair and matching tail. btw, if anyone knows the specific term for an anthro-my-little-pony-fae-unicorn, I'd love to know what it is.

Just try it! 50 in height, head size, leg, arm, neck, torso and hip length will put a female av at 183cm (a shadow over 6 feet) tall. That might not sound so bad, but check the proportions. 9 'heads' tall (humans are normally around 7 - 7.5), with short arms and over-long legs. No coincidence that these are the commonest problems I've seen in SL avs. Don't know if this is still the case, but in the 'old days' of Second Life, we were told one way to make a good shape if you were uneasy about working the sliders was to just set everything to 50. I just made an 'all 50' av shape by way of experiment and... not really flattering!
  7. I have small mainland plot, so I built a garden on a sky platform. I've had houses up there from time to time, but I never really used them, so now it's just the garden. The layout speaks for itself really; I tried to get as much in as I could without crowding, with some water for movement and the variety of patio, grass and trees. It doesn't show on this picture, but the 'land' slopes up by a few metres from the water to the top-right corner. The sculptie grasses look more natural from a normal perspective, and at night the smaller tree is haunted by clouds of fireflies. The whole thing is about 30m x 40m, and 100m or so below I have another flat platform which serves as a workspace.
  8. I wouldn't normally offer advice, especially without being asked. At times I've expressed my opinion about poor proportions in SL avs, without being specific about anyone, but even then it can sound like one is being critical of those listening. People have occasionally offered advice on my av shape, which I consider to be quite realistically proportioned. Maybe I'm wrong, or they're expecting to see more of a 'fantasy woman' shape? I don't want to get into that kind of argument. I was once told "you'd be cute if you were taller". My av is 5'10", taller than about 80% of RL women, and back then I'm sure it was closer to 6'2". I've been told I need bigger boobs, a smaller butt, a larger butt, a slimmer waist, shorter arms, longer legs, narrower shoulders, less muscle, less fat... but also complimented for the same 'deficiencies'. The SL appearence editor is a big culprit. For realistic height and proportions, you have to be brave with some of the sliders and go well away from the median settings. It'd make sense (in terms of interface design) for a setting of 50 in most osliders to give you figure of human proportions.
  9. Very cool indeed. Makes me want a stitchpunk micro-av as in the movie '9' @Braco: Love the machinima
  10. I don't think it's such an odd request. It can be tricky finding people you click with in SL, just like in RL. The popular places can seem a bit cliquey, and the quiet places completely empty. The great thing about SL is that you can cut loose a bit more than in RL. People are generally less easily offended, more forgiving and more tolerant of odd behaviour. So take a few risks and say hi to people, they might just be a little shy too. The worst that can happen is you'll get a few knock-backs, and you won't be any worse off than you are now. Second, there's the vampire av. If you find it draws a lot of flames, maybe you could try going incognito when you aren't involved in vampire RP? You could try a totally different look, or at least play down the vamp aspects and just be the cool goth guy. When I look at your av in your profile pic, I don't see anything that makes me want to flame you as a Bloodlines player. Unless you go round with a combat meter flashing over your head or something, it probably wouldn't occur to me that you weren't just rocking the goth look. If you don't want to set the vampire stuff aside for social times, then you'll have to live with the flames (Bloodlines is *very* unpopular with some people), or only hang out in vamp-friendly locations.
  11. Some groups are closed because the owners want to 'vet' any prospective members. It's not unusual behaviour - we do it in RL all the time. If they want new members, they really ought to list some contacts in the group description so prospects know who to IM for an invite. That's how I used to handle membership for a group I formed. If they don't, you can try contacting the group owners - as Dante mentioned, their names will be listed in bold. Occasionally a group just doesn't want any more members. It might sound interesting to an outsider, but it was set up for a closed circle of people and a specific reason. Because it does only cost L$100 (plus another member or an alt) to form a group, there are many inactive groups out there. I've never found groups a great way of getting in touch with people; it's much better to look for places where people with that interest might meet. Apart from getting extra land for my tier, I've only found two ways groups have helped me. First, they are good way to spread information relevant to the group. Group notices, proposals, items sent out to group members, and if the membership likes to participate, chat over the group channel. Second, groups visible in your profile can be a good ice-breaker when you meet people. Sometimes people will ask stuff like "What the hell is 'Pirate Farm' all about?" or "I'd never have thought someone like you would be into Samurai Archery" or as aimple as "So you like Sub Aqua Hang-gliding too, huh?". They can warn people off too - if you see a profile filled with groups you find distasteful, you can probably draw some conclusions about the how much you'll like the person.
  12. My shape stays fairly constant with minor tweaks to suit changes in skin. I have a base shape/skin/eyes/hair combo that is "me", any variation from that I think of as a sophisticated form of costume/make-up/wig for special occasions. I have a full body tattoo that I wear with any human skin: I try to treat it as a real tattoo in that I can't just change it at a whim. Clothes usually change from day to day, but it depends a lot on what I'm doing. Lots of party invites will mean lots of changes of clothing. Ditto for shopping trips. If I'm at home building or scripting I'm not likely to change at all, even if that means I landscape the garden wearing a ballgown and stilettos.
  13. Sadly I don't have access to SL or my normal PC for a few days so most of my pics are out of reach. Here's a larger version of the avatar pic... Normally I go a little easier on the make-up
  14. My av is usually a (relatively) realistic human being in form. She does not resemble me apart from being about the same height. I have made avs that resemble the RL me, but I've never been satisfied with them, possibly because I'm not all that happy with my RL body. Why put up with what you can change? How I behave is far closer to my real personality. Shorn of some of the shyness and social conventions, yes, but certainly me. I think my close friends would pick me out of a crowd given a chance to interact. I rarely roleplay in SL, neither do I act out RL necessities like personal hygiene, eating or sleeping. I don't have a house, just a large garden on a sky platform and a space to build. I crash my camera into walls in the largest of buildings, and the weather in SL is always good enough to be outdoors. Am I for real? I'm real enough for unreality.
