  1. Those names mean exactly nothing to me. I've never heard of them. So no, I have no idea what they create or created. I wish people would make up their durn minds on how I'm supposed to act/react on the forums.
  2. They know. I've seen such things discussed in TPV meetings with Oz. Granted, not recently but definitely in the past. Once such example I'm thinking of was the "media filter" circa RedZone/zFire Xue days (2011). LL certainly snatched that up fast. But, that was a security issue more than a privacy issue. https://www.firestormviewer.org/phoenix-viewer-public-beta-1-5-2-977/ https://www.firestormviewer.org/media-filter/ I wish I could recall the avatar's name that created the filter but his name escapes me. I'd wanted to give him credit where credit is due.
  3. That may be true of the group you are in but can you say the same for all of the other similar groups? And no, I don't buy anything sight unseen. I've seen too many get ripped off that way with no legal recourse. I'm not about to support that kind of thinking in SL either. Or anywhere for that matter. I wouldn't buy a car or house in RL without ever test driving or checking the plumbing than I would buy a house or car in SL without ever "inspecting" them.
  4. Before I would even consider joining such a group, I'd want to know exactly what this "gift" is and if it is copy/mod. I'm not going to pay for something I've never even seen, much less know nothing about.
  5. I guess those people never heard of Juno or any of the other free dial up services. Well I'll be... Juno is still in operation and still offers free dial up (drastically reduced to 10 hours per month instead of the unlimited 24/7 I used to get)! https://www.juno.com/
  6. They're called TPVs. It's what the devs on the TPV teams do. Users ask for features, FS or another TPV comes up with it, LL approves its use in TPVs, feature gets deployed. At that point LL can ask for the code to deploy it (with any "fixes" they see fit) in the official viewer. That's where the problem is. LL doesn't ask and when offered, LL usually turns it down flat. The problem is on LL's end, not the TPVs. LL usually falls back on the "user experience" excuse to deny adding new features the TPVs have.
  7. That was the "free" account back then. You paid once. They also had the monthly which would be today's premium. Prior to that, it was monthly only. There was no free except the one week trial. My first two accounts were created in 2004. The time period I'm talking about is prior to that 2003/early 2004 (before April). I waited until they made the switch to basics and premiums from the old monthly sub/free because I objected to having to pay for a so called free account. If you have to pay for it, it isn't free. I understood Philip's reasoning behind it, I just didn't agree with it. Neither did a lot of other people. Keep one thing in mind, I had been in Active Worlds for a few years before SL was even in alpha. I came to SL from AW. My expectations were completely different then, even from other AW refugees, as we called ourselves.
  8. Because it is clunky, not in the least user friendly or intuitive. As part of troubleshooting I keep a copy of the official viewer installed. Something every TPV user should do. For the simple reason that LL won't help you if you even mention using a TPV and they can tell what viewer you log in with so it's best to use theirs prior to asking for support and to be certain the issue occurs in more than one viewer.
  9. LL went down that road in the early days. It didn't take long for them to wake up and realize SL was sinking fast and needed a boost before it was declared a epic failure. Ergo, basics and premiums and 16 years later SL is still kicking. It would be the epitome of stupidity to go back down that road again.
  10. That is insanity. I don't care how specialized the group. If you have to pay to join every month after being ejected (!) they are NOT gifts! No group is worth that kind of revolving door greedy bs. Not to mention they are completely missing out on a certain group of potential customers. That's what happens using bad business practices. Greed disguised as a brilliant idea, yet, people fall for it every month. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  11. I got your point. Mine's a bit different. Either way it all falls back on whether or not an individual has any respect for another. Just like the jerk who decided he was going to hog up the build platform I was already on (and had been for a couple of hours) when all but one other in the region were not occupied and then had the gall to tell me we had to share because public sandbox after I asked him if he was aware there was someone already using that platform. I've been going to that sandbox for over 10 years and know that isn't exactly true. Especially when 14 out of the 16 available platforms were empty! So, rather than deal with the mouse, I moved to another platform. A bit odd that he left the region right after that and hasn't been back since. This sort of thing is happening more and more lately when it never happened before. Thing is, I don't mind sharing. Just ask first! Hell I even make sure I leave room for someone else to use, just in case but I don't hog up the LP of the platform like that jerk did! So when I did move, I plopped my build right square in the middle of the platform. Just. like. he. did. So much for sharing and having respect for others.
  12. Might be more of a privacy sort of thing. I know if I was doing the two backed pixel hump I wouldn't want to be knowing someone could cam in for close up. Which is probably why I don't do the two backed pixel hump. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As for the official viewer, how to get someone who has never liked it to liked it? Good question. Don't ask me, I've always had a strong dislike for it.
  13. Firestorm is, has been, and continues to be, the most popular viewer out there. Does that means it is the best choice for your individual needs? No. It means you need to road test a few to find which one fits your needs best. That includes the official viewer.
  14. Which kind of sucks because when the payout fails, you're basically told to suck it up. It's happened a few times over the years. It may not seem like much but when you depend on its being there (and you have logged in more than enough to trigger it) then it fails you have to delay all plans for at least a week if not longer. Then to be told "so sad, too bad, suck it up buttercup" on top of that? Doesn't do a damn thing towards restoring trust or faith.
  15. If you are suggesting what I think you are... no. I won't touch bitcoins or anything even remotely resembling them with anyone's 50 foot pole. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that.
  16. You didn't answer my question. How? How do you stop it? What are your ideas on what will work? Or is this your way of saying you don't have a clue any more than LL does? They haven't been able to put a stop to it in 16 years, what makes you think they can now? Here's a hint: they can't.
  17. Moar Pixar? Well. ok Somehow, the lamp always makes me smile.
  18. So we're either a bunch of whiners or just a whiny bunch. I wish you would make up our minds!
  19. is a bit of a steep slope to climb. After that you don't really give a flying flip any more.
  20. Good deal. Be sure to check those landmarks attached to any picks you have as well if you haven't already. You'll need to recreate any that need to be replaced. A sandbox would be a good place or a water sim for those picks that are more personal, say, to commemorate a friend. Flying under the radar can be advantageous. 👼
  21. It was and it is. Which is why she is still around. She also has her fingers in the IMVU pie as well as some others that I can't remember the names of off hand.
  22. I remember how well that went over on the old forums. Like a lead balloon. That was around about the same time she went berserk on the forum because she didn't pay her tier (or premium, forgot which now) on time and was locked out of her Anshe account. She made it pretty obvious she felt LL owed her a living.
