  1. Thanks for getting back to me. I'm in Mesh Sandbox 2 in Aditi and Wild Rose in Agni - I've estate manager permissions there and can build. I can rez prims and upload images just fine on both Aditi and Agni. And yes I'm in the 'Mesh Volunteers' group. And I've tried it on two computers now - just in case local settings was messed up - without any luck.
  2. Is there some sort of flag that makes the 'Model' option visible under 'Upload' in the Viewer? I am not seeing it as an option anymore in the Mesh Project Viewer and I have payment info on file and have completed the IP test - and have uploaded mesh finea few weeks back. My alt with neither of these gets to see 'Model' fine (but of course can't upload anything). this happens on both Aditi and Agni. Please help.
  3. You have highlighted a few of the many known issues that are associated with Viewer 2.8.0. This is happening because of a rush towards implementing mesh and other features and a poor stream merge and QA process on the Second Life Viewer.
  4. Was wondering why a three month old post was dug up? But what you say is correct. Second Life should run 'out of the box' as they say. And the headlong rush to add new features and implement mesh has, if anything, made it harder.
  5. I am wondering if your computer isn't freeing up RAM as it should do - are you experiencing any similar problems with other apps or web browsing?
  6. Eeeek! Blue Steel is rolling - is this the 'Revenge of the Torii'? On July 28th, beginning at 06:30 PDT, we will be performing rolling restarts on the BlueSteel RC server channel. During this time, we recommend that you refrain from making in-world L$ purchases, as well as rezzing no-copy objects. Information about the server channels can be found on the following links: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta/BlueSteel
  7. Keli Kyrie wrote: That report is for Viewer 2.8.0 if you were on the Beta Viewer you would know that we were forced to update to Viewer 2.8.1 and at this moment I still believe that the latest Beta release is the best Viewer out there. I run the daily build (as well as the main and beta versions that I build StarLight against) and many of the issues are still not fixed into 2.8.3. Since the start of mesh integration, and with the continued lack of a QA manager at LL viewer quality is going downhill. And that is a shame considering the wealth of new features and a more positive, listening attitude that we are seeing. Just switch on the statistics window and observe sudden drops in FPS as you do routine tasks in the viewer.
  8. All credit to LL for responding to resident requests in the few hours since launch - and providing a 'Nobody' option for comments in your feed and also shifting the default opening screen back to 'About'. Thanks for listening.:smileyhappy:
  9. There are some serious issues with 2.8 - I have been running the nightly build for some time now and can tell you that many things are better and many things are worse - especially rather worrying performance dips. It looks like a lot of the good work improving stability and performance up until 2.7 is being thrown away in the rush to get mesh and other features in. And you really need to fill this vacancy quick: http://lindenlab.hrmdirect.com/employment/view.php?req=72717
  10. I'm surprised that we haven't had more info provided about this change when it happenned. Even LL's 'July Update' points to an out-of-date page about profiles.
  11. As this question/rumour comes around regularly maybe we could have a post about it stickied.
  12. There are a number of issues with Viewer 2.8. LL have listed some here and there are several more being reported in the JIRA.
  13. If you only own a parcel on an island region you may find that the island owner has set the overall environmental settings (a new feature) so that it always looks like this.
  14. Vicky Aura wrote: It is still happening. Now with a friends hair whose sculpts have stitching type "sphere". We´ve lost many items in our sim because of this bug. And some no-copy items cannot be replaced because the creator isn´t in SL anymore. What should be do now? We´re loosing many items which are worth a few thousand L$ Have these items only been rezzed recently i.e. since this week's rollouts again? If so that is cause for concern and it would be worth raising a JIRA. LL are clearly aiming for a deadline i.e. SLCC to have mesh rolled out - but they can't afford to be affecting residents who have not agreed to be guinea pigs.

Ever since 2.7.4 was released, and with every viewer released after it, I crash immediately upon activating shadows. The only viewer that allows me to have shadows is now the old Project Viewer for Search, and that does not have depth of field on it. I'm really annoyed, things have been working fine for me up until these releases. That may be the recent bug that causes shadows to crash when antialiasing is enabled - it seems you can only have one or the other now.
  16. VerlicMarr wrote: However, have you tried the Firestorm Viewer? It has an interface similar to Viewer 2, and you might be able to access the aditi grid with it. Not 100% sure, though. Let me know. You can access Aditi using Firestorm.
  17. Eric Castanea wrote: I just downloaded the latest development viewer. 6fps! So it's getting worse and worse. Nobody is going to stay at 6fps! Certainly not me. Then use a different viewer. Remember that SL is unusual in allowing it's users to have the benefit of third-party viewers. It is a fact of life, and IT, that some machines work better than others with certain software, Yes, Viewer 2 does not run as fast as it should, especially as it has tidied up the Viewer 1 code and still manages to be slower! But LL do allow us choice - so we might as well make the most of it if we need to. BTW I get 15fps in LL's Viewer 2 on a netbook - it doesn't suck that bad for everyone.
  18. Is this just the panels, the chat or what - and what viewer version are you using? Even better a screenshot of the problem would help.
  19. More and more people only use a laptop, meaning they can't upgrade their graphics - and as they have loaded all sorts of stuff on them they are reluctant to change as long as they remain able to access the internet and look at documents and photos.
  20. Lynda Klossovsky wrote: not only are invisiprims broken and the prim count broken, the "/me.." typed animations dont work either for example .. /me is angry, would come out as (avatar name) is angry.. it doesnt now... The "/me" bug is logged as https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-25957 - marked as 'Unresolved' so far. The invisiprim problem may be https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-26243.
  21. Steve Atlanta wrote: Theres a friend I know who insists that its possible to go to "skins" and change Viewer 2 to have the "Classic" interface. He logged onto Viewer 2 to write me a tutorial and lost 1000 inventory items, panicked and logged off.... This is not possible - and I produce add--on skins for Viewer 2. Maybe he/she is referring to one of the TPVs mentioned earleir, or is using another third-party skin. In either case the best you can get with a Viewer 2 based viewer is a bit of the old look and feel back, but it will still be clearly more Viewer 2 than Viewer 1.
  22. Deej Kasshiki wrote: My question is why do they continue to repeat the same mistakes as when v2 was originally introduced? Didn't they learn from that fiasco? To continue to release half-done, buggy software will only turn people off regardless of the fact that it may ship on time. Any insights since you work closely with the devs Hitomi? I'm genuinely curious having seen this happen time and again. I don't work closely with the LL devs but I do observe what they produce. LL has many processes - and like any company some work better than others - and nearly all of them are under-resourced. They seem to work on the 90% principle - on the basis that the last 10% (e.g. proper testing) does not produce sufficient returns. This often works well if the people are all the best in the industry, as then they have the instinct to know what can be missed out - LL's staff are, like most places, variable in quality. Second Life is not like the software for a medical scanner - and some mistakes are regarded as acceptable - not good for us, but regarded as good for LL.
  23. DOF is really enhancing photography in SL. As some of you probably know Kirstens Viewer enables you to change the DOF settings from the 'Preferences'. This is now available in Viewer 2 from Viewer 2.8 if you add in the StarLight skin.
  24. From my observation they really seem to have some problem merging code streams as old bugs often appear in the xml code (I only track that so do not know if this happens in the C++ code but suspect it does). And there are some bugs in Viewer 2.8.0 - and many from Viewer 2.7 have still to be solved. The developers/QA team are rushing towards various deadlines, and whenever that happens quality suffers. My concern is the balance between providing new features and fixing existing bugs i.e. I don't beleive they prioritise correctly - in fact I've seen how they do it and their processes are poor.
