  1. The idea is that it makes it easier to support and also some users like to have it done automatically for them. Personally I do think that it should be more a matter of choice as long as you are within the last 'xx' number of releases, and it does cause more problems for anyone using a third-party or own produced skin for the viewer. A reminder for those that don't know, that you can affect the way you recieve updates by changing the bottom setting in the 'Setup' preferences panel.
  2. Hi Kuiper, This appears to be a viewer 2 issue. If it is specific to an operating system it will be worth raising it as a new JIRA entry. The information you get there takes you through how to search to see if your issue has been raised, and if not to raise a new issue.
  3. An update to Viewer 2.5 - called 2.5.2 - is planned to be released in the next few days. It is specifically a bug-fixing release, though whether it contains fixes to the problems you are encountering I do not know.
  4. Everything seems fine for me on 2.5 and Snowstorm daily builds. I am on Windows though so wouldn't rule out a platform-specific problem.
  5. Oskar Linden wrote: Thanks for getting this started Hitomi. My home internet connection died last night and I had to make an unplanned 5am trip into the office this morning just so that I could have access to make these posts. Thought it must be something like that :smileyhappy: - thanks for getting it to us asap.
  6. Oskar Linden has now posted the changes to all the channels here - details of the new project for the Magnum channel do not initially seem to be available.
  7. Thanks Pauline - it does indeed look like it will be Magnum being moved across to the main channel as release 11.03.01.222364. I am sure that Oskar would have intended to provide details of the deploy - he may be being affected by illness or internet problems for all we know.
  8. So, if Magnum is being promoted to the main channel (in 4 hours time!) we will have: SVC-6781: Duplicating old attachments does not copy attachment point/position/rotation info Some people may notice a slight improvement in regions with heavy object creating/deletion. I seem to remember that someone at the Beta Server Office Hours expressed concerns that objects on Magnum were 'ghosting' when deleted - hopefully that won't happen in the main channel.
  9. OK- let's get this thing started. According to the Server Release calendar the rolls are scheduled as follows: Tuesday 8th March 5am - 11am - Second Life Main Grid Deploy Wednesday 9th March 8am-9am - Blue Steel RC Deploy 9am-10pm - LeTigre RC Deploy 10pm-11pm - Magnum RC Deploy So far no-one seems to have any information on these, and even the grid status system is not warning of them so maybe they are not going ahead. If anyone has more details (especially if you second name is 'Linden'), or suffers from their impact, I suggest we note it here. In additional news from Brooke Linden Marketplace will be unavailable while having a software update from 8:30am-10:30am on Tuesday as well.

Are you sure that a firewall//anti-vrus isn't blocking elements of it? Also make sure that your network bandwidth in Preferences reflects your connection speed and that you clear your cache outside Second Life as described here.
  11. Medhue Simoni wrote: No but I did find this fix and now I'm in so called 2.5.1 heaven, lol. I hope this helps some others, cause I've seen similar issues from all kinds of people. Yay! Great news Medhue - maybe something in Windows 7 is causing a problem then.
  12. :smileysad: Ahh yes - good old VWR-24426. I first raised that one almost 2 months ago and since then LL keep thinking they have fixed it only to find it occurring on another setup. I see a new changeset came in, apparently after 2.5.1 was released so maybe that will fix it in the next release - I don't think the latest change has been incorporated in Snowstorm yet either.
  13. sunshine Juneberry wrote: I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for this, How do i start a post??? I'm trying to get help with a crashing problem, but for the life of me i cant figure out how to post a new thread to ask for help. Go to http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Forums/ct-p/Forums and select an appropriate forum (I have requested that a 'bugs/problems' one be created but for now I suggest you use 'Viewer 2' if you are using that viewer. When you open that forum you should see all the posts and a green box near the upper right with 'Start a Thread' in it - click on that.
  14. Medhue Simoni wrote: Ok, now that I've explained how I feel, I must state the reality of my situation. I can't log into V2, and have not been able to since last month, no matter what I do. A number of people I know are having the exact same issue and LL does not even seem to know that this issue exists. Any jiras on the issue are being blown off. Do you have the JIRA number that refers to this?
  15. This could be because you have Javascript or cookies turned off on your computer.
  16. Govindira Galatea wrote: Penny, do you know if there's any way to alter depth of focus, too? I've noticed it in Kirstens Viewer, that there's near focus and far focus states for the camera--with some pretty cool effects that result. Is there a V2.x debug setting that affects that or is it a feature of Kirstens Viewer? It's a feature in the Mesh Beta Viewer (that KL has used) that is not available in the current version of Viewer 2. Sadly it is not available as a debug setting yet, I looked a few weeks back . Hopefully it will appear soon.
  17. Yoz Linden wrote: This sounds like a nasty bug in our editor - do you know of a JIRA issue for it? There is a script Meta-Issue in VWR-19479 but I can't see it particularly covered there. Will check further later and if not I will create one.
  18. Yes - this is a bug in the official viewer. It is corrected in Kirstens Viewer version and (thanks to KL's tip-off) it is in the StarLight skin in case you want to try it again in the official viewer.
  19. A good idea to keep the forums focussed, but currently there aren't enough of them. My suggestions for new forums: - Bugs/Problems - a place to discuss problems with connectivity and features before raising them as a JIRA. - Open Source - bring this one back - Beta Grid - a place to dicuss mesh or whatever else is being trialled there. - Adult - a clear need for an area to discuss aspects of stuff in the Adult parts of the grid. - Social - not the return of GD (there are better places for that outside this web-site) but a place for people to discuss social activities inside and outside SL
  20. Govindira Galatea wrote: You have to wait and wait and wait for the results of such search-based inventory accesses. Secondly, it presents you with far more information than required. Example: I'm putting an outfit together with a dress from Rotten Toes and boots from Redgrave. I remember the clothing makers/stores but not the item names. In a large inventory, mostly you remember the from-whom/where you bought it, what it is, but NOT its name. I find that it returns the results instantaneously - most of the time the inventory is quickly available. Maybe I am different in that I shop around and end up with items from many shops (though having my favourites of course) and tend to order them by what they are rather than who I bought them from. But I can see that if you do order stuff like that then Viewer 2 would be a little bit slower for you.
  21. Viewer 2.5.1 is now available as a 'mandatory' download (hate those). Details are available in the release notes available here.
  22. Govindira Galatea wrote: But surely, Linden Lab know the usage rates of the various viewers: viewers self-identify (in a spoofable way, unfortunately) when they log-in. What more will your self-selected survey participants tell LL about the use of TPVs? LL do have stats of Viewer use but generally they only release them under conditions that they are not disclosed (but they haven't shown me so I can say what I want :smileyhappy:). Basically Phoenix and Viewer 2 are the most popular with Viewer 1.23 and the others lagging behind. If you use Phoenix you could do a bit more work on it by wandering around inworld and seeing what it claims people are using (though it is not completely accurate, e.g. Kirsten Viewer identifies as Viewer 2). I use mainly Viewer 2 (official, beta and dev versions), Catznip, Kirstens S21 and Rainbow Viewer. Some viewers are better for some tasks than others and LL appears to have a growing acceptance that a choice in viewers is a good thing.
  23. Curious Hazelnut wrote: 1) The dark black theme. I have never liked dark depressing user interfaces. We all know the UI colors are controlled in XML files. Why can't we have downloadable themes or at least a tutorial or instructions so I can make my own XML theme files with lighter colours? The StarLight skin for Viewer 2 provides two lighter themes (one of which is similar in colour to the old 'Silver' skin) and is becoming more widely used - and I am writing a guide on how to tailor it to create your own (hopefully ready in April). Curious Hazelnut wrote: 2) The editor built into viewer 2 still doesn't line up the cursor with the text you are editing properly on large files. This is very common for scripts and when writing instructions for new products. It is a huge problem when trying to edit what has already been written. I did think that an option was, or is, going to be provided for using an external editor - but I may be wrong there. Someone else may know more. And yes, I agree it is a pain.
  24. Did you try the trick that Venus Nurmi used in VWR-24857? You can find the latest Snowstorm dev version by clicking on the relevant link on the right of the Snowstorm page.
