  1. Second Life Server 12.06.20.260188 is listed in https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/12
  2. Lydia Craig wrote: Oskar whatever happened really got dramatically worse after Tuesday and today, it is the worst yet. Whatever is going on needs to be fixed and needs to be given a high priority because it is driving people from SL in droves. As for myself after six years I am seriously considering dropping my premium account since over the last few months service has been terrible and I frankly see no hope of it improving soon. As for LLs acclaimed program to fix things, we have seen those constantly over the last three years and the stability we were promised has never materialized and what little stability that was achieved was negated by the next "big fix", so I see no reason to believe this round will be any more successful and if I do renew my account it will be for a quarter at a time, so it is easier to get out if things go as badly as they are at the moment. It's been fine for me and my friends over the last few months, but there has been some difficulties this week. Maybe your problems are related to your machine/connection/sim.
  3. You need a faster connection or a better GPU (the 525M that I see you have in another post is only an average GPU card). SL will always have some lag, but those are the two best ways of reducing it. Using your current kit reducing the graphics quality and the draw distance will also make some difference. Try tweaking the 'Advanced' Graphics settings until you get a mix of performance and appearance that you can live with.
  4. All excellent news, especially object caching - and they should make a substantial difference to load times and the like. With such good news around (and many other improvements that LL haven't mentioned) I do wonder why we don't get a headlline, less techie, article. Come on LL - talk up Second life a bit more.
  5. Perrie Juran wrote: Actually, it does not any more. That information was broadcast by the Server and according to Oscar they turned that function off Server side. Yes, thanks for the correction - I just checked and that method no longer works.
  6. You could always use an older version of Phoenix or Firestorm that uses the viewer tags to detrmine what people are using - think it still works.
  7. Rebranding is not important at this time - it is only really useful if people have lost interest in joining or you wish to attract a new demographic (fancy word for different social/age group). Currently Second Life has over 10,000 new registrations every day - converting them into 'stayers' should be Linden Lab's main focus.
  8. If you have noted a particular bug or issue please go to the SecondLife JIRA, search to see if one is already there and if not then create one with as many details as possible. This is the best way of getting LL to look at an issue or bug (and they do look at it). If you have a particular issue relating just to you requiring support then you can open a support ticket though the level of support is limited if you are a free account holder. If there is an issue affecting several regions and not others then it would be worth noting what regions it occurs in (and which it doesn't) when reporting an issue, as it may be related to some script/texture/object common to all regions. And no I am not suffereing any overheating problems, though there are definitely issues with running the 3.3.3 Beta Viewer for some users (it can crash at startup).
  9. I wouldn't worry too much about the bridge wrt this problem but see http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bridge_issues. To login to a different region enter that region manually in the 'Location' box on the login page.
  10. Yes - I'm sure. You can look in the fonts.xml, textbase.xml, text_editor.xml, line_editor.xml, floater_chat_bar.xml, panel_nearby_chat_bar.xml (all either in the skins\default\en or it's widgets sub-directory) to check if you really want to. :smileyhappy:
  11. "you cannot give firends power edit my stuff i put down" yes you can - from 'Permissions' in their profile. 'and on v2 and v3 it a pain in ass join partys/groups' this isn't such a pain but it is longer because of the badly designed and unfinished work by LL's Social team. 'v2 and v3 lot slower no off button for Mesh' the mesh rendering stream is slower for most users - this means that it is unlikely that Viewer 3 will ever run as fast as Viewer 1 does for most.
  12. If you want to know any specifics I would be happy to help. There are various things that cannot be changed in the official viewer such as recombining the IM and chat tabs, using in-world profiles and changing the way the new toasts work, but some stuff can be made to be more familiar. You might also like to try the 'Nostalgia Blue' version of the StarLight skin for Viewer 3. It does give a more familiar feel to Viewer 3, so could be seen as a gentler introduction to it - and has a lot of customisable preferences. Note that you will have to move a few buttons around (easy in Viewer 3) and a few other easy changes to make it look exactly like that the first time but then it should stay like that. It is far from being a replica and I could make more changes to things like the bottom bar and the menu system to V1ify it, but if you want something much closer to Viewer 1 and don't mind using a third-party viewer then Firestorm is probably more suitable.
  13. 1. Ensure your graphics driver is up to date - try updating it. 2. Try the 'Beta Viewer' from the official downloads page 3. If still no success list your computer specs here CPU, GPU, RAM would be useful
  14. You appear to be a Firestorm user so if you really want it you could make a request using the Firestorm JIRA.
  15. Some big announcements are planned by Linden Lab for next week, so maybe we will know more then. And from what I remember SLCC is not normally announced until mid-May.
  16. Thanks for the answers Simon. I will look forward to testing this soon.
  17. Sounds like a good idea Simon, and thanks for explaining it. A couple of questions: When will it speed up when a person is in an adjacent region - is this a set distance from the edge of the region (and if so what is it) or is it dependent on the draw distance or speed of that person towards the border? Is the speed of returning to normal FPS usually sub-second or a bit longer?
  18. There are a number of features in Second Life that are not available to ordinary users, You have to have either a non-LL viewer or delve in the debug settings to find them - and the security settings naturally prevent ordinary users from using them. This is the way it should be - if you delve you will find such settings on many computer applications, in your home, car and at school/work.
  19. I am having approximately half of my teleports fail now. Normally I would think that 10% was a lot. I've been trying to find a pattern but without any luck.
  20. As always a lot depends on your budget. Even just buying an Nvidia 8600GT graphics card (very cheap on ebay) will improve your experience. If you buy a more recent Nvidia graphics card (check the reviews and remember it is the second digit that generally indicates the card's power - bigger equals better) you will need a lot of case room (they are big) and also you will need to ensure you have a powerful enough power supply. It would also be advantageous to update your RAM to 2GB - not too expensive either, and easy to fit.
  21. emilia Avindar wrote: You will need to use Advanced menu to debug the appearance of sculpts in the viewer. After you enable the Advanced menu, go to "debug" then enter this command "rendervolumeLODfactor" and increase it, perhaps even to 4.025 and you may need to repeat occasionally if you crash out because the setting might not hold. sculpts as they are meant to be seen-- advanced> debug> rendervolumeLODfactor> 4.025 A reminder to others that the rendervolumeLODfactor is also conveniently set as part of the 'Advanced' settings in the 'Graphics' preferences panel. Just use the 'Mesh Detail: Objects' slider - unfortunately it doesn't specify the value being used, but moving the slider to the right leads to better 'pop out' of sculpts and mesh, but may slow down your Second Life experience.
  22. I've been and looked at it with Viewer 3.3.0 and Dev Viewer 3.3.2 and it works fine for me. All I can suggest is trying to delete your Second Life user settings (a pain I know) and a full uninstall/re-install in case any settings have gone a bit weird. Your GPU shouldn't be the issue - I often use a dual-core 8600GT system (though not this month) and it usually runs Second Life fine.
  23. It is indeed very dissappointing that the annual birthday event appears to have been cancelled.:smileysad: What is even worse is that they don't actually say that it is - and try to spin it as something positive. This shows an apparent indifference and arrogance towards SL's own customers.
  24. That's why they are release candiadtes. Some problems only appear when they are tested on the main grid - with a complex system sometimes you think you've fixed a problem only to find you've made it worse.
