  1. There is a bug, which has been ongoing for several years, that seems to cause this sometimes. Recently it doesn't seem to be have been so bad - but FUI and Mesh seemed to have re-instated some old bugs.
  2. a new, optional, camera will be arriving from LL soon - not that this is any excuse for them messing up the current one.
  3. Just a reminder to anyone who is testing this branch of development (which is designed to fix the various problems associated with the viewer using deprecated OpenGL functions) that if you have any issues, problems, suggestions then https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-2240 would be a good place to discuss them. Hopefully there will soon be a version of this code that can be pulled into the Beta viewer, and the more testing it receives prior to that the better.
  4. The Windows cient is usually better than the Mac version. I think you may have to look at processes that are running and the resources they are using to figure out your problem. Performance on Viewer 2 and 3 is generally worse than that on Viewer 1 and has become poorer with recent releases, but with that level of kit you should have no trouble achieving better figures than you are getting.
  5. I'm not expecting many, if any of those issues to be fixed in a couple of weeks - I am just warning you that Viewer 3.2 (without sidebar) will be the main LL viewer in a couple of weeks time.
  6. This means that it is a base LL problem - LL are currently working on issues associated with Viewer 3 crashing. You could try installing a pre-October 2010 graphics driver as there are some problems with recent Nvidia drivers, or for now you may have to stick with \Viewer 1 or a viewer 1 based TPV.
  7. This is Beta software so it is not unreasonable to expect a few issues - as you can see in this list issued by Oz Linden there were quite a few when 3.2 Beta was released as a candidate viewer: At the time of integration with viewer-development today, there are still a number of outstanding issues the team is working on to prepare for beta and release. So if you're running the development Viewer, please be aware that some things may not yet work correctly. Here's a quick rundown of some of the known issues: o The Viewer floater camera views and presets do not work. o The Nearby Voice panel does not update to a new call or from nearby voice info once opened. o Viewer crashes when updating UI size in preferences. o The Speak button is activated when dragging and dropping between toolbars and/or moving back to the Tool Box. o Viewer crash when moving the speak button from one toolbar to another when there is an active call request. o Teleport history doesn't display visited locations. o Viewer crash when double-clicking the mini-map in People > Nearby. o Notification and conversation chiclets overlap. o WASD controls don't move avatar while the Move floater is in focus. o Closing voice controls while a group or p2p call also closes the group call/IM window o Viewer crash after teleport o Hitting back in the 'Create Group' panel or 'Blocked' panel requires multiple clicks for action to occur. LL would clearly be foolish to release this into the main viewer channel without fixing most of these issues, and I encourage you to raise, watch or comment on issues in the JIRA to assist them in rectifying problems,
  8. Rick Dashrix wrote: Thank you, i managed to copy the 3.1.1 of my laptop, that one works good and has the sidebar You will have a couple of weeks before 3.2 becomes the main viewer. If you feel strongly about the sidebar (thought I don't) there is a JIRA entry (VWR-27318) to make it optional in the revised viewer - you can vote for and watch it to show LL that you would like such a feature.
  9. I suggest that yoou try the official viewer and see if you have the same problem - if so it would suggest that it is related to the core LL code, if not it might be worth checking the Firestorm JIRA to see if anything similar matches.
  10. It is gone and won't be coming back. It is still available in some TPVs based on Viewer 2/3 such as Firestorm.
  11. I didn't think there was a way to merge IMs and Nearby Chat into the same tabbed window in Viewer 3 (though I know it can be done in Firestorm). Am I missing something?
  12. Red Laurent wrote: Thank you very much Azondra! Worked perfectly, now I don't have to go back to the prior release. Unless something else is messed up I haven't found yet. /me checks she isn't Azondra. Oh, there is plenty of other stuff messed up - you just haven't found it yet. :smileywink:
  13. Unfortunately LL broke the way the 'Orbit' feature worked as a result of other changes they were carrying out. I have issued a fix for this, which involves replacing or changing an xml file. For details please see here. Please note that this is not an official bug fix - but you can see full details of what it contains and how to change the file yourself in the above-mentioned thread.
  14. @Maestro - thanks for telling us what that weird server number was - a real odd one that. Personally I have not noticed any unusual problems inworld as a result of the restarts, but I haven't visited every sim there yet :smileyhappy:.
  15. Ayesha Askham wrote: OK This is getting beyond a joke, and it is certainly NOT what we pay for. Our sim is one of the best run homesteads in SL and it is being brought to its knees by whatever is going on in SL. Logging on and off is almost stopping the sim..some sounds actually do stop. Even TP inside the sim is slow and unreliable, to other sims it is almost impossible. It is not just me and it is NOT script count related. What on earth is going on?? Have you carried out (if you have permissions) or requested a sim restart? That is usually the first thing to try.
  16. At least they now seem to have hired a QA Manager at last, after the job being vacant for several months - hopefully this will improve the standard of QA as some of the bugs that were getting through, and the lack of adherance to their own coding standards suggested there was plenty of room for improvement.
  17. @somedude - if you own it you could try a region restart or if you rent advise your landlord you are having problems then maybe they could do it. If on mainland try raising a support ticket, or it may fix itself at the weekly restarts. @Ayesha - that is very weird, it does seem to report as a non-existent server version. All I can assume is that the estate owners have agreed to let LL try some stuff out there.
  18. Ayesha Askham wrote: One sim that I did TP into announced that is was running Server version 11.10.10.0 - pardon? - a BETA grid version on Agni?? Do you remember which sim that was? It may just have been a temporary oddity after a sim restart but it would be worth checking.
  19. Some of the Open Source developers for the LL viewer may possibly have been involved but I think that when only 'techies' are involved there is a danger of the obvious being overlooked. When Mesh was being integrated into SL there was an extended period of testing which creators and other interested users were involved in. It should be said that some of the Lindens involved with this work do appear to have a good understanding of what the problems are with the Viewer - and I do not feel we will be looking at the same sort of disaster that we had with the launch of Viewer 2.0.
  20. I have checked the Second Life JIRA (bug reporting tool) and can't find anything that really matches this. I would suggest a complete uninstallation of Second Life from your machine, and then a reinstallation - for details of how to do this see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/How_do_I_fully_uninstall_and_reinstall_Second_Life. If this does not work then I suggest you raise it as an issue in the Second Life JIRA.
  21. Oh dear - it seems to be getting to poor Wolf.:smileysurprised:
  22. The first changes are planned to be in by the end of the month with more changes in by the end of the year - LL have been working on it for a few months, and I believe it is all being done in-house (or with in-house contractors). I have a few ideas of what some of the changes are, but prefer to wait until I know more. I do believe that the changes will generally be seen as improvements by most of the user community, but the lack of user involvement in any aspect of the design is worrying.
  23. The last scrum I attended there was just Oz Linden, one of the ProductEngine's (LL contractors) and me there - though usually there may be one or two more. There is major work being done on the UI at the moment (this has been confirmed by Rodvik Linden in a few places - see below). This work (which is called the FUI - really it is) will probably start to be seen in the next week or so. As far as I am aware no customers or TPV developers are involved in this work, and they have tried to be pretty secretive about what it involves, but there will be substantial UI changes - though these are unlikely to affect viewer performance. Rodvik Linden wrote on SLUniverse: For the UI changes. First you will see a merge of the modes. (basically click to move + new camera coming into advanced which you can turn to old way if you like). That should be End of this month. Next a large GUI change for all our users. Yup we are taking another crack at UI design again...
  24. If you use Firestorm, Kirstens (and possibly some other) Third Party Viewers you can stop this in the preferences - also with the StarLight skin for the LL Viewer. If you don't use any of those then you can set the amount of movement by showing Debug Settings in the viewer and setting the values for 'PitchFromMousePosition' and 'YawFromMousePosition'.
  25. I think this is an excellent idea - currently the UI favours those who like text whereas several people prefer to think visually, so it would be good to have the choice (and some elements of this will be reflected in forthcoming UI changes). From a technical viewpoint there would be a small rendering cost, but it would be relatively insignificant.
