  1. You and a couple others have completely derailed this thread, and then you have the nerve to say, "Oh look, the thread's been derailed! I'm out of here." 🙄
  2. I agree this is part of what's made people of color feel more comfortable in SL. Skins in general have gotten so much more realistic and nicer, even before EvoX. There have also been more creators of color making skin, hair and clothing that reflects what they what to have available in SL. When good skins, hair and clothing are available, people are free to be more visible as their RL selves too.
  3. I meant to imply an ironic reference to people in RL wearing black-face, yellow-face, dressing up as a caricature of a Native American mascot of their favorite sports team, a "witch-doctor" and such. As long as people are not creating a negative caricature in SL, representing as a different race than one is in RL, seems to be ok with most people.
  4. I'm inclined to agree that there are probably more people of color in SL than there were 10 years ago. I base this on the YouTube videos I've seen by SL users.
  5. Just a reminder. The topic is about Diversity, Inclusion and Equity in Second Life. Discussing how this dynamic at Linden Lab affects its perception within SL might be relevant, but we don't really know the diversity makeup of all the Linden employees. Discussion of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity practices in RL is off-topic and likely to get this thread locked.
  6. I think the terms refer mostly to a workplace. Linden Lab seems to have the Diversity part down for gender and sexual orientation, maybe not so much for race, age and disability. We don't really know though. Strawberry Linden is Indian-American or Pakistani-American I think. The IT security woman who got fired and sued LL was Muslim-American too. "How are we doing" reminds me ironically of Elmo asking how people were doing. It might be a touchy question for some of us. (Btw, when people play a different race than they are in RL in RL, it's not considered a good thing.) I love how diverse SL is, but I think this is a result of the freedoms we have as users here, not the result of diversity and inclusion training. I don't love the racism, misogyny, and some other elements, but it's better than having too much censorship.
  7. SL is very inclusive of the most diverse kinds of kink, racism, misogyny, simulated torture and vore play.
  8. About a year ago I contributed to the Go Fund Me drive for a Facebook friend who needed money for a bus pass to get to a new job. He ended up with almost 3x the amount he need. Great. Then he went off the radar. No posts for months. Then I found out he was convicted of assault, went to jail, got out of jail, and was in a rehab program. He apparently has a new job and is doing better now. On Monday, Go Fund Me refunded the money I'd contributed. It wasn't that much, but getting it back was a nice surprise. 👍
  9. You're a week and a half too late with this thread topic. Single-player mode is when we stand alone in our skybox.
  10. That map above doesn't show the last 7 regions that were just added. 2,662 + 7 = 2,669 regions
  11. It would likely be mice, rather than moose, that those huskies might catch. According to the "Never Cry Wolf" book and movie, wolves eat more pounds of small mammals than they do of large mammals.
  12. Open up the HUD for your body. On the first tab (or one that says Skin?) there should be a button that says BOM or Bakes On Mesh. Click that and your body will look fine. (If your body turns red after doing this, remove your alpha layer.)
  13. Granted, but it was only in the UK in an alternate timeline universe in which the American colony states never left Britain. I wish the weather in California would always be as nice as it has been this month.
  14. @Love Zhaoying, Touchè Granted, you can get started making music - humming a tune that's stuck in your head. Unfortunately, it's an old jingle from a TV commercial, and you can't think of any other music because of this. I wish I could own a dog again.
  15. There's a pretty good list of available last names now for anyone wishing to pay for a new avatar name.
  16. I think the last 2 posts might be more information than the OP can handle. Most of us on this forum have been using SL for years and have a pretty good grasp of it's complexities, history and bugs. A newbie probably isn't going to want to know all these details. They just want their avatar to look ok, to be able to move around, to be able to change clothes, and to be able to talk to other people. I'm not suggesting dumbing down SL, but that we should try to simplify our explanations for newbies, just as we would simplify our answers when a child asks us a question. In this case, I might say something like, "The shape you bought was probably made for a specific mesh body. You're only going to get the look pictured in the ad when you wear the specific body, shape and skin listed. If you buy a mesh head or body, it will come with a shape made for it. Either use that or one made for your specific mesh head brand. Wearing the wrong shape for your head will make it look really weird."
  17. What's easier to make, clothing that always covers the body no matter how extreme the avatar's movements might be or adding a script that activates the appropriate alpha cuts and then deactives them when the clothing is removed? Seriously, which is easier for a clothing creator? Activating alpha cuts also lowers the rendering complexity of the avatar because, just like for items behind walls, the skin texture is still rendered even when it's under mesh clothing.
  18. Granted, but now we can only post 5 posts each per day. 😥 I wish I were a better person.
  19. Which clothing stores make clothing for Jake that have autohide scripts? Maybe this is going to be an important feature to include in mesh clothing going forward, especially if some newer users can't manage the complexities of using a HUD for a mesh body?
  20. Granted, but tomorrow you sprout wings. I wish people would be kind to each other.
