part of why I joined second life
Polenth Yue replied to mercurial1's topic in General Discussion Forum
Your friend needs to get over the idea that friendship is worthless if it isn't useful, rather than you bending to make all your friendships into productivity exercises. It really isn't healthy to approach friendships (or life) like this. Relaxing and doing things for fun is great. It's part of life. It also helps avoid burnout. If you want to show stuff that Second Life has done that impacts first life, there are various charity events. Relay For Life season is getting going, so you could join a team and help raise some money. But don't treat every friendship as something that must result in something like this. It's fine to just have friends and hang out doing nothing much at all. -

Has anyone else noticed the B[xxxx] accounts?
Polenth Yue replied to Jules Catlyn's topic in General Discussion Forum
Data that appears to be anonymous can often be combined with other data to identify individuals. That's why you've got to be careful and should give people control over their data. Everything else, you can look up if you want to know. However, all of that is really a tangent, and it's telling you picked out that and ignored everything else I said. Ultimately, you don't reply to people saying "I don't find this fun" with "well having fun is mandatory and you can never leave" because it's just silliness designed to cause drama for no reason. Want it to be fun? Want to avoid the drama? Add an opt out. Job done and we all go for tea. That's the last I'm going to say on it. -

You're not going to let people opt out with their avatars or land because you enjoy the negative responses. You'll add in new features based on who it'll annoy, not who it'll help. This might not be how you intended to come across, but there you go. I'd suggest that you consider the purpose of the bots and whether these responses are fulfilling that purpose. If it's all for fun, you should want people who are not having fun to be able to opt out. You don't have to agree with their reasons. Just let them go, because they're not enjoying the party. Also, data protection laws in many places state that people can ask for their data to be removed, so you really need to sort this out. -
They're map ghosts. When no new region is placed in a space, the ghosts can stick around for a long time. You can tell because when you're zoomed in enough to see the region names of active regions, these ones have none.

Do you mean the land impact? That's set by the size of the parcel. So a 1024 Linden Home has the same land impact allowance regardless of your account type. The upcoming 2048 Linden Homes will have more land impact, because the parcels are bigger. Mainland is a little more complicated as some regions have different land impact, but again, it's set by the location and parcel size. Not by your account type.

Why is Second Life expensive?
Polenth Yue replied to Lord Derryth's topic in General Discussion Forum
Outside of the issue of people abusing free land for every account by making twenty accounts, I think it's unlikely that people would spend enough to cover giving everyone free land. But they use a similar principle with the premium accounts, by giving people land or a house for a set subscription cost. People do go out and buy stuff as a result, which helps the economy keep going. There are genuinely new people signing up for this, because it's easy to sort out and the cost is realistic. Which moves on to whether a request is really for starting land or not. Half a region is the sort of thing you'd expand to later once you have building projects, rather than being a newbie thing. Owning a Blake Sea region is not a regular newbie thing either. Expecting them to be free or cheap is not going to happen, because there are costs (and for things like mainland sales/auctions, other residents set the final price). -

Are people afraid to talk to older accounts?
Polenth Yue replied to River Aurelia's topic in General Discussion Forum
I've not had issues getting people to talk to me. In general, people tend to assume tinies are not looking for sex and are genuinely just being friendly, which increases the chances of real conversations by a lot. Your avatar is usually the first thing people see, not your profile age, so it does matter. -
Can someone offline track you in SL?
Polenth Yue replied to Lord Derryth's question in Abuse and Griefing
It's somewhat unlikely that you have multiple people who are obsessive about you in exactly the same way and behave in exactly the same way. Even an obsessive fan group for a celebrity would be full of individuals who all act differently. So unless you have proof that they were really different people and one of them really died, I suspect both accounts were the same person, who is not being honest with you. Ultimately, this issue isn't about the technical side, but in being clear about your boundaries and cutting her off if she won't respect them. -
Does Your Avatar Look Like a Well Known Person?

Any resemblance to other mushrooms, real or imaginary, is purely coincidental. -
Why would this be moderate instead of general?
Polenth Yue replied to FoxyFire Alpha's topic in Merchants
When I look at moderate listings, it warns me for content because I'm set to only see general. The thing it told me it contained was "furry" which is ridiculous... but possibly it's the combination with another word. From past experience, "kink" and "kinks" would be treated as two different words. The system is not smart about singular and plural. It could also be due to another word entirely that nobody could predict, but it's really likely to be something like that. -
This was discussed in the group, so making sure it's also here. The rest of the older chalet regions have been named. This includes the regions around Muehlenbach (chalet community region), the last of the chalet coast (mostly houseboats with some stilts) and a couple of train/water channel regions that didn't release with the rest of those ones. Once they're released, that's almost all of the chalet area done (just the edge to the north to finish off, which is in progress).

Polenth Yue replied to FoxyFire Alpha's topic in Merchants
Try removing the mention of the furry kinks tail. It's telling me it's moderate content because "furry" but I bet "kinks" will do it as well. Be sure to remove from keywords and such as well as removing it from the description. Issues like this are almost always because of the words used. Sometimes it's obvious which words cause it. Sometimes not. -

It's never too late to promise us a pony! -
People have been discussing things on the forum like where they got their furniture, relevant sales of decor items and other events. This has been allowed. So no, suddenly not allowing discussion of this charity event would not make sense under the rules. Most people understand the difference between discussing things that might interest residents on the forum or in groups and putting out vendors/kiosks on a Linden Home parcel.

When I saw the announcement, I wondered if anyone here would sign up. I'm not great at standard room decorating stuff (I just throw out pets and shiny things), but it'll be interesting to see what people come up with.

Why is Second Life expensive?
Polenth Yue replied to Lord Derryth's topic in General Discussion Forum
Blake Sea is ridiculous, but there are a lot of cheaper parcels that join the waterways that reach that sea. Even more since the Linden Homes as they connected the continents. Plus getting a Linden Home is a very cost-effective way of having something that connects to that water (all houseboats and a lot of the stilts do, plus other coastal houses in other themes). I'm working class and a lot of stuff is outside my reach in Second Life, but I can have a house and some land and buy stuff. It's not as all or nothing as you're treating it. There are lots of options between the most expensive region in Second Life and nothing at all. -
Everyone has different views on what is nice too. I've visited the houses of a number of people who have multiples and I thought they were nice enough spots. I wouldn't want to live in those spots though. People often feel the same about my place, in that it's a great fantasy spot, but they don't want to live in a giant mushroom swamp for some reason. As far as multiple houses go, I think it's worth considering what you'll gain from dropping the extras. What will you do with the money and time? If there is something, focus on that. If there isn't, it might be there is no real reason to drop them.

forgotten landscape decor stores…
Polenth Yue replied to Hana Kiko's topic in General Discussion Forum
How long ago did you visit the stores? People have mostly focused on stores that still exist, but that might not be the case if it was years back. Also for the gacha one, if you can remember more details, you might be able to find some of the gacha items on the marketplace. -
Second Life New Year's Resolutions for 2023
Polenth Yue replied to Love Zhaoying's topic in General Discussion Forum
I have a lot of free group slots, so trying to get out of the habit of being frugal with group joining. I've joined a bunch for shops where I have their stuff (I joined in time to get a festive giftcard from one, so it's going well so far). Outside of that, just hoping my health improvements hold this year so I can do more stuff.
