  1. It has been tough this year for any area with mostly small independent creators (in general, not just talking Second Life). When money is tight, it's not that people don't spend, but they're going to buy everything else first. The little arty things are last on the list. The main way around this is not to put everything into one business angle. I made enough money with art outside of Second Life, which covers any drop in Second Life sales. But I'm also working on a few things that aren't mushrooms (the horror) to spread my Second Life sales around a bit. For someone in bodies and other wearables, the obvious thing is to try stuff that isn't so dictated by fashion. Decor items don't age half as fast and don't need to be constantly updated as body fashions change. Also, the usual advice to put your shop in your signature, your profile, and anywhere else where you can shout it from the rooftops. You want to be sure that people know you exist.
  2. Whether the suggestions were what you were looking for or not. Whether it made sense (probably not as you didn't join the related groups). I will resuggest that a fantasy person will benefit from joining * * Fantasy Faire Fans * *. It's a huge event and the group will lead you to finding out about other groups and other events. If you take no other piece of advice, join that group. Also, given you find the newbie places too trollish and want a chatroom feel, I'd suggest Bellisseria Citizens. It's for the area with the Linden Homes that premium members get, but you don't need to be premium to join the group, visit the area or go to events. I think it might help you to see a group where people just chat about stuff, even if not specifically related to your interests. If you're struggling with the group search, I can send join links if that'd help.
  3. I'm talking about how you came to the peeves threads and other threads to complain about not finding people, but never returned to the one posted in "Make Friends". One person tried to bond based on shared interests and I offered some group suggestions. So, it did look like you were avoiding people who were trying to get you to where you could meet people, in favour of complaining elsewhere that you couldn't find anyone. It sounds like you might actually have forgotten you ever posted that thread, so I'll hit an emoji on it and you'll see it in your notifications.
  4. Before the new year, some of us went on a train ride with the moles and mostly survived. There are now rezzers for the trolleys/trains at the stations. We were part of history! Only thing of note, if you really pack on the people, it gives up on chairs and just starts sticking you to the doorframes and such. Also, the borders have continued going red on the big houseboat area. Getting there.
  5. I found someone in the middle of nowhere on the mainland once. They wanted somewhere with music and dancing, so I explained how to use search to find clubs and how to teleport. This was the point where people could pick a topic that interested them and it'd dump them somewhere sort of connected but also a landmark you'd never pick unless you hated new people. An alt I created during that time ended up stuck under the stairs in a mall that time forgot. People who picked steampunk ended up in the basement of one of New Babbage's taverns, instead of at the town hall or even just in the tavern itself. Anyway, let's hope the new player experience and community hubs they're working on stop trapping new people behind piles of barrels and under staircases.
  6. A lot of people acknowledge that it's hard (including Linden Lab), but you need to talk to those of us who acknowledge it's hard and not the people who tell you that you're a whiny newbie. At the moment, you seem to ignore responses that are trying to help you, and argue with the people who are not trying to help. So, what is it you're after? Help finding communities or help finding arguments? If it's the former, your friend thread awaits, and I have some other suggestions based on things you've said since then. If it's the latter, have fun I guess, but I'll stay out of it from now on. If nothing else, know that it used to be a lot worse. People fell off the cliff in the tutorial, couldn't figure out how to fly, and that was the end of that.
  7. The covenant has the owner of the estate (the mainland), which is not you. You're the owner of that plot of land, which will be listed on the general tab. There's nothing stopping you from setting up a teleporter that goes to adult land, as long as the system you're using doesn't try to stop it. If it's the sort I'm thinking, you might need to set up the experience it uses on the land, which you can do as the land owner. Just go to the experiences tab of the "about land" window and add it there.
  8. I don't see any reason why they'd buy the rights to a random body when they have one being worked on by the team. NUX was far enough along to show last year, so it doesn't look like they're struggling. Also, even trying to negotiate something like that would be a lot of stress for the creator, who was very clear about needing a break. I get that you're sad about the closing and want to try to keep it going somehow, but sometimes things have to end.
  9. This thread isn't the best place to get advice. You have a thread in the friend forum and I responded with some groups there, but I can suggest others to make sure you have events all year if that's the sort of thing you were after. Just needs you to go back and reply.
  10. The Lindens own an area of four regions close to where I am. It has a building in the middle and forest around it. I wouldn't mind if they did something useful with it. Lots of space there for displays and tutorials. They could also do a lot more with the nature area with all the new mole stuff.
  11. Pretty much any decor pet can be worn. You can place them on your head/shoulder if they're an odd shape for holding or position them so it looks like they're on the ground by your feet. You're only really limited by the animesh limits (where relevant). I have many non-breedable pets, but will focus on the most bunny brands. Yokai has some cute holdables and other smaller pets, including bunnies. Static mesh, so decent land impact for rezzing as well. Half-Deer has several sets of small bunnies (the Lazypuff Bunnies) in costumes, which aren't holdable, but sized fine for being "hats". These are also static mesh with low land impact. Jian does many animals, including bunnies. Some intended to be held or as companions and some not, but like I say, you can wear anything. HPMD / HappyMood does those little animesh bunnies you see everywhere. Nothing stopping you wearing them. SEmotion Libellune has done animesh bunny companions of various sorts, though not sure which ones are current (they're transfer, so check out the marketplace if you don't see the bunny you want in the store). These are companion only in most cases due to the high land impact. Moon Rabbit has a fun stingrabbit set (stringray rabbit hybrids). There's a fatpack option or a conveyor vendor if you don't mind being a bit more random (includes smaller companion pets and rideables). Also animesh.
  12. Stairs usually look horrifying for me. I've had builders apologise after seeing me stagger up them. Though the best was still the Relay For Life track where they thought it'd be fun to have water over the road in one place, so people would have to wade through. What covered the knees of most human avatars went right over the heads of tinies.
  13. Mainland set for sale will automatically appear in the land search. I've never done more than change the title/description and set it for sale. Plus making sure the terraforming isn't too weird. Generally, I've not seen a demand for plots with landscaping on them. Most people just return/delete all that stuff as soon as they can, so it doesn't increase the land value. The price you've set isn't cheap unless there's something special about the plot, so you may find you'll need to drop it. You'll hit a price point where the land will sell in a few hours, so you can dump it pretty fast if you're getting close to date and need it to sell to someone.
  14. Replying directly to bad reviews is likely to end badly for the creator. I don't do it, regardless of the nature of the review or whether I take action.
  15. Child avatars are banned if they break the rules. An example posted on the forum was a teen avatar posed naked with an adult avatar. It was allegedly for a skin advert, but child skin adverts usually have a whole lot more clothing and aren't posed with naked adults, so I don't know what anyone involved was thinking. Both accounts involved were banned. The reason you don't see the people griefing the afk places complaining about the ban is that they're clearly not going to use their main accounts to do that. They'll create throwaway accounts, so that the ban doesn't impact them. It's also laughable to think that they won't just up the height slider on their child avatar to get around any automatic height limit. The actual solution here is for the people handling the reports to know afk griefing is a thing and check for that. I don't know anyone who was banned simply because a child avatar entered their adult region and did non-adult things like looking around the shops (the rules allow this). I don't know anyone who was banned for allowing short not-human-children, such as me, into their adult region (which is also fine under the rules). There is no height limit in the rules. There is no assumption in the rules that short means child.
  16. The suggestions I'm about to give aren't all immediate, but are related to your interests. Fantasy Faire starts on 21st April (2023). It's huge and you'll meet people from fantasy communities all over Second Life (including roleplaying and board games). The group is * * Fantasy Faire Fans * * and will get increasingly active months before it begins, so I'd recommend joining now and getting a feel for things. The group called Second Pride runs events through the year (not just at pride) and has two regions up all year. When there aren't events, it's a good time to wander the shops (there are some gifts) and look at the tents (some are for clubs and such). This takes you to one of the regions: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Second%20Pride%20East/4/202/37 Raglan Shire is worth visiting if you like cuteness, as that's where the tinies live. You don't have to be a tiny to visit or go to the parties and such. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Raglan Shire/105/196/59
  17. The ad rules are mainly about outdoor adverts, so putting up a little building with details about your stuff inside would usually be fine. Even with outdoor ads, I've not had complaints about having my book posters outside my shop. It's not really like having a microparcel with a giant ad stuck on it. I've also had links for my main website and social media. If you do end up crossing a line and not realising it, the most likely response will be that the stuff will get returned with a note. You'd have to be doing something majorly bad for it to be assumed that you did it on purpose.
  18. As well as setting up the provided security system, another thing to avoid people appearing inside the house is to set teleport routing to a forced landing point that is outside your front door. You and anyone on the access list can then open the door and walk in. Anyone who isn't can try to get in by sitting on something, but the security will kick them in 15 seconds, so it won't matter much. Make sure you haven't already set a forced landing point that's inside the house. People can end up landing there unintentionally, then find they're trapped inside as they can't open the doors. If you set the landing point to your bed, you will absolutely get people falling on your bed at random times (and they'll be just as surprised as you are). You can't ban everyone using the land settings as you've discovered, but you can ban individuals who cause problems.
  19. This was acknowledged as an issue by the Lindens, which is why they're working on the NUX avatar. Once that drops, new people will have a mesh avatar with a basic wardrobe of clothes. It just isn't ready yet.
  20. Anyone placing a height restriction is doing so for their own reasons. It's nothing to do with Second Life's rules. Though I haven't had an automatic system shout at me about my height for some time (people realise I'm a tiny mushroom if they can see me, but the scripts can't tell avatar types apart).
  21. I'd suggest joining the Second Pride group. There are various events during the year (not just for pride) and also communities will advertise their events there sometimes.
  22. In general advice, I'd strongly recommend that you don't throw everything away on the basis of your experience. You are not desecrated, your account is not ruined, it is not meaningless and you do not want to get banned because of those people. That is exactly what they'd like you to do, so don't fall for it. Take a break from Second Life if you need it, write it up on your own blog if that'll give you some closure, but leave the doors open to come back and find new friends. If what happened to you breaks the rules, you can also abuse report the people involved. Not always an option, as some people are careful to never quite go over the line.
  23. I wouldn't pay any rental company a whole year in advance though. Even otherwise good companies can have issues, as they're often run by one person and something bad could happen to them.
  24. Based on the wording, I wonder if what's being described is a service that spams groups. In which case, the bot doing the spamming will have the normal group limits, depending on the type of account. That would mean the answer is the breedables spam bot only has a basic account, whereas some of the other spam bots have paid accounts with a higher group limit. Either way, promotion groups tend to lack actual customers. People treat them the same way as they do the spam folder for their email. I'd keep that in mind before spending time and money on them.
  25. Second Life has a bunch of different communities, rather than being a single location chatroom with a single community. It's a sandbox, rather than a game with set goals. That can make getting started a bit slow, but means you can do a lot more once you get the hang of the basics. It sounds like your main goal is chat rather than making your avatar look nice. Using the search function in the viewer will help find groups to join (groups let you talk to other group members anywhere in Second Life) and places to go. You can also check out this section of the destination guide for newcomer friendly spots: https://secondlife.com/destinations/howto/newbie The early part of the year is often quieter in Second Life, but the events usually get going as we head into spring.
