  1. This is at the heart of what I was trying to get at above. Thanks for putting it better than me Theresa. I think I'll leave off trying to say more though because I just don't have it in me to hear another lecture about things I already know.
  2. I wonder if there could be any traction for a marketing tag like "Ideal for High Rez Photos" for the hyper-detailed stuff. Just thinking out loud here, so please don't trash the details but maybe make friendly improvements instead, like better wording. Something which would feel like a plus for the uber-close-up crowd but would also introduce the idea that it was extra and had a specific use. That might be a way to slip in the idea that it's going to create problems for other uses. A downside I can see is that it would might encourage even more hyper-detailed stuff and its popularity in photos would encourage more sales and most users would just wear it anyway. So I think I've talked myself into disagreeing with my original hope. I'll post this anyway in case it sparks a better idea for someone else. I can't see "Optimised for a better SL experience" catching on, even though it would appeal to folks like us.
  3. I need to log off now but I will read over the thread again when I'm able with an eye to seeing if I made a mistake. I did re-read your posts a few times during our interaction but perhaps I missed something. May I just say though that you had more information about the misunderstandings and that put you in a better position to realise and clarify it. Repeating what was misunderstood just reinforces the misunderstanding. I will try to remember these things about you, but maybe this is something you can take on board too? KRs x
  4. Seventh Day Adventists observe a Friday-Saturday Sabbath and refrain from working on it and that's enough for you to write them off altogether? OK. Why should norms of respect be excluded from the internet? I know that's where things have gotten, but do they really need to be that way? Can't we try for better? Respecting another person's wishes still seems to me to be a basic and normal thing to do, even on the internet.
  5. Probably best not to assume that the store owner is Jewish and Orthodox. We've already had a burst of antisemitism removed from the thread because of that assumption. Seventh Day Adventist is at least as likely, perhaps more so. Or maybe one of the related groups - they have a complicated factional history. Perhaps another Christian denomination altogether that I'm not thinking of I'm still not sure why it's so awkward for people to just respect another person's request. It seems to me like a rather basic and normal thing to do.
  6. This would have been so much easier if you'd put that in earlier rather than, or at least in addition to your repeated DO IT THIS WAY OR DON'T COMPLAIN!!! Your brevity and stated harshness occluded that, to me certainly and it seems to some others. Thank you for doing so finally
  7. Buy some full perm mesh clothing and add your own textures. No need to scale Mt Blender when you just want to stretch your legs a bit GIMP is free and what a lot of us use for working on textures. It has a learning curve but nowhere near as steep. Look for FP mesh with an AO (ambient occlusion) layer. This will put shadows on top. In GIMP, you'll need to set that layer to Multiply. (I don't know if PS and other software use that term or something different.) Then put another layer underneath for your fabric and an additional layer inbetween with your reindeer. If they're on separate layers, you can play around with things like scale and contrast more easily. Export your image, then open that version up again and Remove Transparency so it doesn't alpha glitch on you. You probably won't get it 'right' the first time, so use either the Beta grid or the local texture feature to avoid the 10L$ upload fee until it's finished.
  8. That seller has found another way. It's not one I'm keen on, but banning those who go against her request is actually a way to 'enforce her wishes' (to use your language) for the future. I know it's too much to hope for, but what if people just respected each other? Said, ok, it's just pixels. I can come back later. She can do things her way, you can run any enterprises you're involved with your way, no stress, no bother. But I guess someone like you can't conceive of going along with someone else's request unless they're physically prevented from infringing it?
  9. So people don't have a choice in what they do or how they use vendors? Surely you're not saying that.
  10. Why do you get to be the one to decide these things, Solar? All you've written is variations of Do It My Way or Don't Complain/Don't have a shop, while maintaining the right to complain about people not doing it your way. This is what I'm trying to understand. Why do you get to be the one to decide these things?
  11. I don't see it. Could you spell it out for me please? Why is your way the correct one for others to follow? Thanks.
  12. Could you please politely explain why your way is the correct one for others to follow? Thanks.
  13. My male alt's never been inworld as much as my main or my building alt (both female) but he gets approached far more often. One of the differences is that those who approach him (mainly gay men, trans-women seeking men, and women) accept him as a friend and friend only. I would guess that a number of them are interested in sex but I don't know because it never comes up. That acceptance rarely happens with my female avs. The usual scenario there is man approaches, he brings up sex, I politely decline, he wants to be friends anyway, then defriends me a week later when he realises it really isn't going to happen. There have been just three exceptions to this in nine years. So this "loneliness of male avatars" doesn't fit with my very limited experience. It was always easier for my male alt to make male friends than for my female main and building alt. In contrast, women never approach my female avs unless they're new to being women (using SL to explore transition).
  14. Where on earth does this come from Prok? It certainly does not come from me nor does it reflect a single thing in my thinking or attitude. When you lost all of that furniture, I remembered you had bought some things from me, small purchases mostly, and went through my records to send you new copies. I didn't know if you used them much but it was what I could do to lighten your loss and I had hoped a small act of kindness might help. That accurately reflects my thinking and attitude. It's up to you now to choose which to see, who I really am or the character you've created for me in your mind. Good luck with fixing your problems, Prok. I mean that sincerely.
  15. Have you been in touch with any of the people who compile lists of stores doing Advent yet? FabFree and Xzavia Yifu of Timeless Textures are two contacts for that. Check upstairs in the back of Xzavia's store for an Advent-ure sign. More people will see their lists than your forum post here. Good luck
  16. CasperTech uses webpages for redelivery so a customer can get to their page via a Casper redelivery terminal in another store. It's worth a look, @MishaC25
  17. I loved Caledon Oxbridge. Bitsy was originally Edwardian, so Victorian had to do It was a fortuitous choice. Someone there gave me a library card with my name on it, which seemed rather like magic And I found a pretty peach gown whose skirt poofed out rather wonderfully whilst falling through the air. Which began the start of my career of making experiential art out of my clumsiness with the arrow keys. Thank you Caledon x
  18. Shrugs. Not much point in saying anything more I guess then, is there? Good luck with fixing this Prok.
  19. There was one answer when you posted this. I appreciate that you're frustrated but it can take time for people to log in. While you're waiting for the affiliate merchant to log in from the long weekend, a useful (and often entertaining) option is to check out groups like SL Frees & Offers and FabFree and places like The Free Dove for very low-cost or free items. If I'm remembering correctly, FabFree has a group, a blog and an inworld location with notecards of stores organised by theme. I think they have one for hair. At any rate, there are stores with group gift hairs, lucky boards (if the first initial of your account name comes up, you click the board and get the prize), and more. Some groups cost L$ to join but there are many which don't. They can be a great way to check out a creator's work before you put money in. I managed affiliate vendors for a friend's sim briefly years ago. Gave it up because they were so difficult. The weekly mandatory sim restart could really mess them up. The brand you mentioned is old too with a somewhat complicated history involving being sold to someone else with, let's say a different design philosophy. I haven't heard anything about them for years though so I don't know what's going on with it. Hopefully the problems were worked out. Anyway, I wouldn't use either that brand or affiliates as examples of 'normal' in SL. Were you able to get a demo before you bought? Always a good idea to get a demo. And at this point, if hair doesn't have a demo it's probably out-dated and obsolete. Oh, and we're about to begin the inventory-destroying chaos that is Advent in SL Starting 1st December, there will be a glut of gifts and that will probably include some hair. FabFree and other blogs compile lists of stores doing Advent. Groups like SLF&O are a good place to learn about Christmas gifts. Stick around long enough to get a taste of how wonderfully generous SL creators can be.
  20. On the page for that video, he calls SL a 'dating sim' and says he found it in a sidebar advertisement. From what I've seen, sidebar advertisements tend to invite players to sign up without knowing much about the game. (My experience with this was from a couple years ago when I was really ill and looking for easy ways to fill some time. Didn't want to kill things, which ruled out most games so I did want to know what it was about first. I'd usually just end up looking on the wikipedia page for it.) If SL is advertising itself in this way, it's only natural we're going to end up with lots of players signing up who don't know what it's about or have an incomplete idea based on the soundbyte from a particular ad. Might things go better if SL's marketing went back to putting greater emphasis on the open-ended 'create your world' aspects? It's what really sets SL apart.
  21. Prok, do you realise how much you've added into what I wrote? I initially asked a simple "How often do you clear the cache?" Just trying to find out. If you're not clearing cache "All the time" as you said above, then perhaps we can rule it out. But if you are, it may be affecting you more than you realise. It won't be the entire source of your problem but it might be exacerbating it.
  22. Does your classroom need to be rezzed permanently during the time or can you rez it when needed? A place like Helping Haven might be willing to host you if it's the former. I have no idea if they could afford the prims for it to be left up all the time. Everyone I've met there has been very kind. P.S. Good luck
  23. When I'm bouncing between Blender, GIMP and the beta grid repeatedly, trying to hold a mash of information in my head, the last thing I want is forced updates to the viewer. It's not bandwidth, it's the time and interruption for me. I prefer a viewer with a slower update schedule and one I can decide when to accept.
  24. That's not why I asked Prok. I'll upload the two pieces I thought might relate as a screen shot: Clearing cache makes things reload from scratch. That's why it *can* be useful for troubleshooting and will sometimes clear up problems on its own. Emphasis on can. But if the problem comes from how slow the data is coming in, clearing cache (and forcing all those textures to reload from scratch) will increase rather than fix the problem. Much of what you've written suggests it's the latter situation, in which case clearing cache frequently will contribute to the difficulties.
  25. What is 'hardware skinning'? I can observe its effects but I've never understood what it is. It's one of those things I just change when I'm trouble-shooting to see if it does anything helpful.
