  1. Just curious if anyone knows if there are any teachers or classes for AVSitter? There aren't any on the current Helping Haven and Builders Brewery calendars. I found it very simple to set up the basics, but got a bit lost in trying to understand what else it can do. I am in the rather quiet group and wish it were busier, I learn so much from questions I haven't thought to ask.
  2. I can't speak for everyone, but I don't argue with them because either I largely agree with them or they've gotten into technical aspects I don't understand well enough. I do read their posts carefully and think about how I can use the information to improve my mesh work. To be frank, the emotional attacks you're launching aren't making the case for your position. It does seem that your emotions are clouding your reading and it really comes down to a disagreement over an issue LL is unlikely to implement in a radical fashion. Have a go at me too if it makes you feel better, but maybe then take some time away from this?
  3. I'm an inworld shopper too. MP only to gather store names and items to check out or if I can't find what I'm after inworld at all. As for abandoning ugly land, I'm not so sure if I agree with you there. After living on that wretched granite for years, when I had to move my priorities were mainland road and grass. Finding abandoned grass wasn't difficult. A friend said that the sim next to his was mostly empty so I went to look, flew around a bit and found something even better. Maybe I got really lucky there but some abandoned land is fine. Perhaps that points to a simpler beautification project - god-mode some of the abandoned granite into grassland. All of those mountains turned out to be a mistake. There's no real reason why they all have to stay though.
  4. I don't think any one is arguing to give all mainland ocean access. I think it's more like using abandoned land to add some woodlands, or parks, or water where it suits. If that landlocked region has had a fair bit of abandoned land for awhile, then it might be a candidate for an amenity to be added. It sounds like it's a fairly busy area though, so probably not. A lake on an abandoned region in the interior of a continent would create a different type of waterfront. It wouldn't attract the serious sailors but could be good for others. That's what my understanding of the hopes for mainland beautification are about, though I could be reading my own ideas into it as it's an example I put forward a while ago. Perhaps it's best the others here clarify their hopes.
  5. My new shop is entirely prims. It was great fun to make, there's no LoD collapse, the only physics issues are when I convex hull the wrong bits, it's very moddable and the LI's great. I think every friend I told about it asked if I'm going to do it in mesh. Why? Aside from a ramp which might become mesh stairs at some point, there's very little to gain (a couple of LI at best) and much to lose.
  6. I love the aesthetic of these kinds of builds, whether they're delightfully charming or exuberantly creative. They feel like they come from the heart and share some of the creator's/s' personality. ?
  7. The AR button might well be overused, but sometime there are clues in the profile or behaviour - or in this case a complex torture chamber and the names given to the accounts - which suggest that making oneself known is just asking for trouble, especially given how hard it can be to shake a committed stalker with multiple accounts. Perhaps this isn't the best thread to argue for polite conversation first.
  8. If you have Windows 10, the bloatware includes an Xbox interface which lets you record anything you tell it is a game. It has to be toggled on under the Game bar tab of the Gaming Setting. Took me ages to figure that out but once you have that set right, it's dead easy. I haven't used any others so I can't compare quality, but this was good enough for my purposes (walk through of the about to close sim where I slived for 9 years ?)
  9. *£$&%. stupid malfunctioning brain. thanks for catching that Phil. edited to be better. i shouldn't be anywhere in public today.
  10. You can go to a lot of mainland as a basic member, but you need to be premium to own some for yourself. Premium accounts can own up to 1024 square metres of 'mainland' land without paying additional monthly fees. Depending on what you like to do with your SL, that might be a tremendous perk or it might mean nothing at all. That's true of all the premium benefits. If they don't suit how you use SL right now, then there's no need to go premium. I've been here nine years and finally had a reason to last month. Premium accounts automatically receive L$300/week as a stipend. That works out to be almost the same as a year's premium on the annual rate. Depending on how you use your SL, that can make an annual premium subscription very inexpensive.
  11. Our world, our imagination. If someone can imagine it, it's part of their SL. If someone can imagine it and script it, it's part of everyone's.
  12. Mesh bodies have an equivalent of system clothing called 'appliers'. It's a HUD system which talks to the body to put a texture on it (skin, tattoos, clothing etc). Baked on mesh, when it arrives, will do that directly. You wear your system skin or other item and it shows up on the mesh body. Your old textures would work then, provided the mesh body is compatible with baked on mesh. The question is how many people might buy them. Will the fashionista set adopt baked on mesh as the new gotta have it shiny or something to be scorned? Who knows. What aspect of designing do you like most? Texture work? Garment silhouette? Making for yourself or selling? The whole thing is complicated and fragmented these days and learning how to make original mesh clothing is a lot to take on all at once. But there are ways to narrow things down into manageable steps if you prefer that.
  13. five minutes of scrolling later ?
  14. Rather than buying and then deeding, you can also donate your tier to the group first and then Buy for Group. It's an option on the land menu. You'll need to have that group active of course.
  15. quietly observes how many "This will be the death of SL" controversies we've gotten through alright
  16. /me wants to embroider this on every build platform in world
  17. An advantage of building your own is that you'll have greater flexibility for working with the contours of your land. Plus the buzz of achievement and learning a new skill Like I'm looking at ChinRey's linked path cut set up and imagining the larger box stretched on one axis to make space for flower pots, maybe a wee landing for a chair looking out over the water....
  18. Maybe some of the differences in people's experiences comes from different preferences in avatars and clothing. Standard Sizing may have been a nightmare for tall or voluptuous avatars but the small end worked well enough for my slightly built av. For those who want to show a good bit of boob, things have never been better for certain. The norm I see on offer in stores is a bit much for me though, so often older is a closer match for my preferences. Slink High heels look painful and awkward to me so I'm still going around in flats, boots or bare. In the 'old' days, things often couldn't be made to fit perfectly but I could get pretty much anything I wanted to wear to be good enough. (Again, having a slightly built avatar may well have affected how close I could get and I didn't mind minor tweaks to my shape to better suit something.) If I saw something I liked the look of, I knew I could get it work even if it took some effort. Now though, there's so much which will simply never work. If your tastes run to one of the popularly supported mesh bodies, it may well be that things are easier for you now, at least once you've got your HUDs set up just right. But if they don't, there's little which can be done.
  19. The store in question gets some monstrously bad lag. The Advent tree there is usually click and wait, which would fit in with some of the script discussion above.
  20. I chose something which reflect my sense of humour rather than my face because who we are as people is what really matters.
  21. This isn't all that different from RL situations. Solution there is to either dig into the ground or build a foundation so the house sits level. If you can't terraform down any more, digging into the ground won't be an option. Building a level foundation is easy though - classic prim shoved into the land textured with a brick or stone wall-type texture. Or cement or whatever you fancy or can imagine. Adding plants or rocks to soften that edge and blend it into the landscape is RL too. Plenty of ideas there. And examples from SL, have a look round at what other people have done. But start with the prim approach to get a feel for what you want to suit your land, house and tastes. I can't remember what's in the library textures any more, but check those out for possibilities to experiment with.
  22. There are a ton of divergent skills to learn for creating original mesh clothing for mesh bodies. You don't have to jump in at the deep end though. You can get some full perm mesh clothing templates to texture yourself or develop your mesh skills by making accessories which don't need to be rigged & weighted (or have simpler rigging than clothes). All of those skills will feed back into your end goal of making original clothing. So that's my suggestion. Don't try to do it all at once. It will feel like an insurmountable mountain. It's not though, and smaller short term steps will help you climb it What aspect of fashion design excites you most? (For me, it's fabrics and when it comes to clothes in SL I have enough fun playing with different textures I never get around to actually finishing them up properly to sell . I'm learning constantly with it, which means they'll be better if I ever do.) Good luck and welcome to the madhouse
  23. The shift towards phones and tablets probably affects the new user base. As fast as the technology is hurtling on, I wouldn't be surprised if SL is available on them (and in a way attractive to new users) before us old farts give up the ghost. That could lead to some leveling out of the decline. Or maybe computers will become the new vinyl Also, I'm more interested in decline over recent years. The massive peak was never going to be sustainable. (Chin Rey's just posted something which might be relevant to that. The close striping of the graph doesn't play well with my brain so someone else will have to examine it. But it looks to me like there's a leveling of the tail over recent years, with a pretty predictable swing through the seasons. Is it just the last two years though? That wouldn't be enough to bank on but perhaps it's the start of a new tendency towards holding relatively steady.)
  24. Just a couple of ideas to throw into the mix: The single versions could stay on MP with the HUD versions available both inworld and on MP. Most folks understand needing to save prims. Does the vendor system you use require the item to be in a specific vendor inworld for redeliveries or could the single versions be stuffed in a box? If that wouldn't work, you could offer to send redeliveries on the single versions out as needed. (Assuming of course that you've kept the transaction records.) Upgrades are good PR.
