  1. Wilkommen zu Second Life Forums http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alt_account_policies
  2. Welcome to Second Life Answers, FREEDOMGAL2 The Linden Homes are allocated subject to availability, and it isn't possible to choose the exact house on the exact parcel of land that you might have wanted. You should be able to choose the style/theme of house. Go back to the Linden Homes web page and try again is what I would advise. Select the type of house you want, and hopefully you'll get the right one the next time. There is much more information about Linden Homes on the Second Life Wiki. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Linden-Homes/ta-p/700103 ***** Edited to add. If you wish to add more to this thread, you can do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit". (Please try to refrain from using all capital letters - it actually means you are SHOUTING :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:)
  3. Did you ever even bother to read the Terms of Service before you clicked to tick the box when you first entered Second Life? http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php I'll draw your attention to this part:
  4. Cigarettes are available to buy inside supermarkets in the UK, but it is illegal to smoke them there, or anywhere indoors. Similar rule applies to this very invasive gadget you've seen on the Marketplace. It isn't against the ToS to make it, sell it, or even use it - as long as the people it is being used on have given their express permission to be spied on! Regarding the ability to track someone's movements wherever they are on the grid, they would have to be wearing something (ie a bracelet with the script in it), and by wearing the bracelet, it could be seen to be giving permission to the person who gifted it permission to see where they are on the grid. If anyone is actually found using any of these devices without permission, they risk losing their account.
  5. Welcome to Second Life Answers, dyanittaaaa Looking at the message you got when you last tried to log in, you should be able to log into Second Life in just another five minutes or so. It's actually very interesting to see how quickly Linden Lab resolved this matter for you. Thank you for sharing. If you find you cannot log into your account after 17:49:15 pacific time, then please submit a support ticket via the link they gave you in that message (or contact Live Chat if you are a premium member).
  6. Maybe we'll find out after the weekend what happened to cause the unscheduled maintenance. It would be nice to know.
  7. Welcome to Second Life Answers, sspankiespankss Yes, if someone decides to upgrade and take advantage of having a Linden home, they can have non-premium members visit them. If they create a group, and set the land so that group members can rezz objects there, then anyone - premium or non-premium - who is in that group, will be able to rezz on that land.
  8. I'm on Windows Vista, but I think Windows 7 (or is it Windows XP that you have?) will also have given you a prompt as you've uninstalled Second Life if there are any outstanding components to clear up. However, I think you might find this microsoft.com article of use, if you're not used to clearing out old programs. I don't generally like to give links to outside websites, but it's the microsoft official one, and secure. http://www.microsoft.com/athome/setup/cleansweep.aspx#fbid=J0FAiA_yTbO
  9. Aye, I know. And you were also talking about sim crossings rather than teleporting. I actually considered removing my post, because there is also the factor that you're speaking of private sims, and I mainly hang around the mainland. Only thing to do is get as many people as possible to fly/drive/sail and compare notes. Then bombard Oskar & Co on Monday or via the JIRAs. :matte-motes-evil: /me goes to get my leathers on and retrieve that motorbike. Or maybe it's rubber duck on the Blake Seas time once again.
  10. Thank you Cindy for providing these details. You've been able to log in to Second Life for several months with the Intel G41 built-in chipset, but I'm thinking it's really for less graphically challenging games than the Second Life platform. I am hoping that people with more experience of this type of graphics set up will come in and correct me if I am wrong. Also, you don't have a huge amount of RAM there, and might not have enough left to run SL. So, have a go at cleaning out any unnecessary files and programs from your hard drive, uninstall all of the Second Life components, and start again with the Second Life viewer of your choice. If you find you run into this crash logger problem once again, have a go with one of the 1.23 code-based viewers, on the list of approved Third Party Viewers, such as Phoenix. And please keep coming back with a progress report. Third party viewer list is here ...http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  11. The new region idling shouldn't have any effect on the lag at all; except perhaps to reduce it overall, as there is less work for the servers to do. As a vehicle approaches the sim border and 'looks in' to the next one, the server responds and the sim crossing should be no worse than before. There was unscheduled maintenance last night, so you may find if you run the same tests again that region crossings may be different again. Yesterday I found teleports were ok, one failed, and I had one forced logout (I think I must have been teleporting into a region that was down in that moment). Today, I am noticing teleports are much faster; now this may simply because there is less traffic on my broadband, although it's a weekend and the kids are off school, so SL (the internet generally) is slower for me under those circumstances. Keep taking a note of what happens after the deploys each Tuesday, and keep an eye on Oskar Linden's threads here on the forums. See if you can input some information there too, or pick up anything that will help you with the private island sim crossings.
  12. I despair sometimes. Why do people have to be so destructive, just because the shop has closed for a few hours? I mean, do you do this to your 24 hour garage too - go stick your tongue out at the other people queueing to get in and shop I mean. All of us here on the forums/answers are just residents, exactly like you. We have our frustrations, we have our failed log ins, but we don't throw our dollies out of the pram and blame everyone else but ourselves if it is something we can be taking responsibility for, ie our graphics card, internet connection, general maintenance of computer. I know I shouldn't even bother to reply to an obvious troll thread such as this, and I could not care less if I am accused of being a shill/suckup/linden alt. It's all just words with no actually meaning or foundation. As I said in my comment to you on the other thread, this latest large spell of downtime was most likely due to security issues that could not be left until after the weekend. The Linden employees themselves would have had to stay behind, when probably a lot of them were just looking forward to a regular weekend of spending time with their own families and hobbies. Try and be a bit more tolerant and understanding, and less offensive. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
  13. It's frustrating for sure when unscheduled maintenance takes place, and last night was particularly bad, with five hours offline at least for some people. Occasionally Linden employees do look in and respond here on the forums, but generally it is a resident to resident area. I think yesterday's unscheduled maintenance was over a security issue, rather than because of general updating to work on the new Shining project. This will be carried out more than likely during the regular Tuesday deploys. (And who would really choose to work on a Friday evening, so close to the weekend? I'm guessing the Linden folk who had to were not too pleased themselves; Support would have been inundated with enquiries from irate residents wanting to know why their sims were not coming back up straightaway.) I blame the cleaners. They plug in their vacuum cleaners and floor polishing machines without a care, not knowing that those big machines all lined up are actually servers and not just funny-looking refrigerators!
  14. TimberHoffit wrote: A guy from Mediacom came out, checked the speed on HIS little computer, and found out that it's just my computer that has the crummy download speeds, which is why only Second Life is acting up. Other games I play don't really rely on those factors. I've tried everything, though, to see what could be wrong with my computer but I find nothing, and nothing I do resolves the problem. My computer is working fine, it's JUST Second Life! It sounds to me like Mediacom is crummy, if you could run Second Life before without such problems. Second Life is not a game, in the same sense of the word as the other games you play online, it is far heavier on resources, and one resource you really need to have a half-decent session in SL is a decent connection. I've had the runaround with Virgin here in the UK, and, rather amazingly, since I complained and they assured me it was because I had not sufficient RAM on my computer (!), my internet connection has been smoother, and Second Life has run adequately well. Odd that! Edited to add: if you're accessing Second Life wirelessly, just don't. That's just asking for extra problems.
  15. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Avtaar. It might help you to check if the drivers for your graphics card are up to date (by going to the website for your own graphics card manufacturer - driver downloads are free). It would also be useful to see your computer's specifications. You can add them to this thread by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  16. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Britta I'm afraid we're all responsible for making a note of which email address we've registered our avatars/alts to, and depending on what is saved to your own system, you may have to dig deep to find what you're looking for. If you know the names of your alts, of course, you can log in as them, and see which email address is registered, either on the website account details for each one, or inworld by opting to send a snapshot (the registered address for each avatar comes up on the snapshot screen.
  17. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Sinisterr It sounds like a temporary interruption in your internet connection has caused this on this occasion. To fix, I think a rebake won't work, but if you haven't already tried it, please press "ctrl" "alt" "R" at the same time. If that fails, try changing your group tag and waiting for a few seconds. If that doesn't work, try sliding a bald base over to your avatar from your inventory. Failing all else, do a character test (option for this to be found in Advanced menu at top of your viewer screen). This will take your avatar back to it's factory settings, and should also force your inventory to fully load. Then you can just slide your favourite shape, skin, hair, clothing and HUDs across to your avatar once again.
  18. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Shyfangs Your avatar isn't bugged, but it is certainly being bugged by something you have left behind at that particular location of Kincora 128,49,39. It's easy to fix. Just return to that location, find the object, and delete it. It will then be quiet. Also, the other five bullet need derezzing/deleting, that I flew into (marvellous effect it was, but landowner might not be so impressed if they get here before you do!). Here's the SLurl you need. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Kincora/138/47/42
  19. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Debz When I'm in a lazy mood, I click on the start button on my computer, and type into the search box "marigold_devin", which brings up all my chat and IM logs pertaining to this avatar. (Relates to Windows Vista operating system. Obviously I don't know what you're on.)
  20. Welcome to Second Life Answers, kenny Second Life is surely full of strange little quirks. I have stood in busy music venues where half the people have complained of no music, but the other half have been getting music, and yet these same people who have no music in the busy venue can hear media playing in their own home. I do not know for sure, but it could be caused by something as simple as the amount of lag blocking the stream for you - it would be interesting (but rather an impossible task I think) - if everybody registered their system specifications, and the problems, and their possible causes could be rooted out by being able to see the common denominator. Bandwith springs to mind mainly, though, from what you're describing. If you are in a venue with other people, and everything is transmitting across from the servers to your own computer, maybe music is the last thing to come across, and it just doesn't quite have enough bandwith to do so. I am speculating, though, and others will be along to add their opinions and experience too. You could try and work out if there are any patterns - note down where you get music, where you don't, type of sim, number of avatars at each, I don't know how much benefit you would get from tweaking your bandwith.
  21. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Yuki It could be a number of things that cause this. Does it only happen on one particular sim, or does it happen anywhere you are in SL? Can you also please add your system details/specifications to try and determine if it is more likely to be an SL server/sim or PC/computer issue. You can add more information to this thread by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner and "edit".
  22. Lydia Craig wrote: Heaven forbid that it is the SL program that may be bugged or much less the core server, that simply will not do, and the slightest suggestion that this must be the case will drive the Spin Police crazy as we have seen. At the moment Sl is having problems and they may well be effecting logins and causing all kinds of misleading log in messages to be sent out, they also seem to be effecting ports and the map as well as possibly search on SL viewer and its clones, ie third party viewers. It would be much more productive if LL would admit these problems and stop the game of blaming connections, our computers and now our graphics cards, but that is not likely to happen and the result will be more and more player distrust and more and more migrations out of SL, and in the end Linden Labs will have no one to blame but themselves. Ah, but what if the 'Spin Police' all join the Bitter Brigade and then how quickly will the residents seeking practical help run out of the doors and off to WoW etc? SL is being flakey enough to warrant emergency deploys in this moment, with some sims unlikely to be brought back to life for five hours. Oh hell, the sky is falling in, the sky is falling in. And yet, strangely, I have been managing to teleport around the mainland for the past four hours with only one sudden log out, and one "unable to teleport" message. Second Life is not perfect. It's never going to be. Real life isn't perfect. It's never going to be. It's all evolutionary. If you feel so much contempt against LL and the 'Spin Police' (whoever they may be), why are you still persevering with it? Maybe misery does love company after all.
  23. No. Many people access Second Life while they are away on business trips, or over at the homes of friends.
  24. If I was offended, I'd AR, but Amethyst is right, LL do have to approve the sim names. Reminds me of some places in RL. I doubt LL would allow me to set up a sim with this name though, even if I lived there in RL and wanted to recreate it in SL.
  25. It would be really useful if you would post your computer's specifications to this thread. What happens exactly, ie do you get any message up on your screen as the viewer crashes? Which viewer are you using. Looking forward to receiving more information.
