  1. I suggest searching inworld for NCI and Caledon. Both have classes on building in SL that will give you a good jump start. Go to theor locations and look at the calendars.
  2. In some of the European countries there are laws very tightly controlling how one can refer to those brownshirts. So I honestly don't know what the correct response to that question would be. It would depend on what country that person is in - and what country expected visitors are in - and whether or not any of the depections violated assorted laws.
  3. Only reason I haven't posted in here is I've been unable to pick a favorite yet from among the many good spots I've seen.
  4. St. Nicolas is 'crazy-huge' - and I did a good bit of shopping at their branch shop elsewhere in the area today for some of my furnishings.
  5. I was sure there used to be a thread showing off different churches and temples in Second Life. I just built one myself so I was looking to go and babble about it in that thread, yet search is failing me here. :) So I'll start a new one. If you know of any churches, temples, mosques, shrines, etc, post up images and any info (if they have it). I don't really have any 'info' for mine. Its just a place for people to go on their own and enjoy: Ethiopian / Rastafarian church: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Blumfield/179/68/27 I've seen one or two here and there around SL. Some of them simple, some of them grand. If you've got any you like, post em up. :)
  6. Yeah I've not tried to texture anything with made with those two. I use sculpt crafter to make my sculpties - but that's likely not at all what you want. It makes them by stacking prims inworld and then converting the arraignment to a sculpty map. The benefit though is that once you get used to it you can sort of predict wich faces will be easier to texture - and move prims around so the parts that you want detail on with get the 'good' faces.

I don't currently trust SL with a payment system which, for non-USA users, is actually a gambling company located in a tiny British colony (Gibraltar)., which would appear to have a) (allegedly) already leaked user's information to it's related companies for spam purposes, and b) required users to send them photocopies of both sides of their credit card before they'll take their money. Since Dragonfishtech.com, the payment handlers, are subject to EU data protection law and EU gaming regulation,as are their owners, 888.com (who are a UK company), and many of their customers -- e.g. Littlewoods Pools, a name that will mean something to Brits, if to no one else -- they're subject to a much tighter compliance regime with their data handling than is LL or most other US companies, and have considerably more to lose if things go wrong. If something goes wrong, both Dragonfish and Littlewoods are subject to criminal prosecution in Gibraltar and the UK respectively, as are senior managers in both companies, and risk losing their business altogether because they'd be putting their gambling licenses at risk by breaking data protection law. I'm pretty certain, too, that Dragonfishtech have considerably more experience, because of the nature of their business, in dealing with online fraud attempts. LLs handed their money system off to some people in the EU? If you ask me, that's a darned good thing. The US financial system is so corrupt it sends Russian mobsters and Chinese politicians crying for the police... Business in the US has -zero- accountability. You only get criminally prosecuted if you forget to pay off whoever's running Congress that year.
  8. Tokoroten and Rokuro are free applications that I think do this. http://kanae.net/secondlife/tokoroten.html
  9. I can easily see how this is restrictive to new people getting into content making, will make people think twice about even getting into SL when they're at the early stage before they've realized its better to pay your way through some things. But I can also see that not doing it would easily land SL into serious legal hot water with some 3D companies that are bigger and have better lawyers and more IP to protect. They will still have those lawsuits, but this gets them out of the path of the bullet and puts the illegal uploaders right in the path. LL's will likely get served with a very big and nasty lawsuit early into mesh - and with this change they can silently give the other party the name of the violator and none of us wull have to hear of it or risk losing our entire grid to pay legal fees brought about by one jerk. So... in the mix of things, probably for the best, albeit frustrating in what it will do to curtail some new content creators. I'm assuming they banking of the low chance of a good 3D modeller being the sort unwilling to pay for 3D content. Any good modeller is probably already making money hand over fist on Renderosity, and selling some sculpties here - and those people are unlikely to balk at this. Any good 3D modeller not yet here, is likewise probably already making money at Daz3d, Renderosity, 3D cafe, or somewhere like that - and will not balk at a potential new market. Its only the peple brand new to modelling in 3D that will balk - but they won't be ready to upload any meshes yet anyway. It takes a few years to get good at 3D modelling...

  11. An alternative theory is that a -LOT- of abandoned land is getting recycled now. When it suddenly poofs on long term squatters - they go looking for a new place to squat. So you might just be seeing people who used to get away squatting in one place trying to find a new place to get away with it.
  12. This thread should be stickied thanks to Jessica's great post on the first page with those links. That's some very useful information.
  13. Something corny going on around here... Yep, definately. And I think the guy on my right needs to stop dieting.
  14. I've just finished a relevant blog entry: http://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2011/06/05/second-life-on-the-cheap-getting-kitted-out-for-as-little-as-possible/ And am also up for any shopping trips if you want company. About to start writing a companion entry for AOs in particular.
  15. As you noted, the micro avatars do this. I have a mini rabbit and a mini bilby avatar that both shove my avatar under the floor and surround it with an invisiprim. - They're old. If you were to make that today, the smarter move would just be an alpha texture over the whole body. But if you need to move yourself up or down rather than hide yourself... the techniique they used is what you want. Unfortunately those are avatars I bought not made. I don't know what the method used to do it was - just that it can be done.

Soon as the store gets zapped it will all become moot. That's good advice, because the land is a great location. I kind of want it. And the funny thing is, I filed just such a ticket a few days back on one of the places currently listed in the land auctions... I saw two such places recently. I should have filed on the other one too, but was distracted. Besides that second one is a house that's underneath the encroaching house of its neighbor...
  17. What viewer are you on? Try removing everything you're wearing, deleting your cache, and logging into to a specific location, like 'Hiltrude' (a linden owned empty water sim - good place for lowest lag you can get. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hiltrude/128/128/4 Just put 'Hiltrude' into the specific location field before logging in - so you start there and don't have to TP to it. IF you still have problems after all this... I'm not sure but with more info somebody might be able to figure it out.
  18. v2 Won't even go below 64 on draw distance (unless something in the debug or advanced menus lets it go down more. Default is 96 I think - and that's good enough for anyone unless you're doing still snapshots of a scenery. I keep mine at 64 most of the time. Going up only when I want distance images.
  19. So um... hey there big guy. What're you wearing? (but seriously... were you wearing something new today and lagging from it by any chance? )
  20. Koltari wrote: The unfortunate thing is that the only information on the page where you pick your username is "You will use your username to login, so don't forget it.". It doesn't say this username will be used in-game. I recently updated my guide for new user's blog to reflect that - and to caution people to be careful in what name they pick there. But I'm like a voice yelling into the wind on that score and google still prefers a blog that hasn't been updated since 2006 over mine when it comes to new user advice... Most MMOs have you pick an account name, and then after that you go to a screen to create your first character. That this MMO makes your account your character throws a lot of people off I suspect. And lets face it, this is an MMO, or at least as MMOs are to MUDs, this is to MUSH.
  21. Just file a support ticket to have the land set for sale or auction and ignore the rest of the debate. Soon as the store gets zapped it will all become moot.
  22. Seems to have gone empty again. I notice the group chat is pretty lively, but its been a while since I've seen people stopping by the location. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Allana/226/31/28
  23. A lot of people including me have height guides. But there may be a proportion guide at "The Forum Cartel" (which is an inworld location set up for members of these forums). I think I got one there a while back. You can also just import the texture of the vitruvian man and stand on a pose stand in front of it.
  24. Yeah I've got quite a few of those old outfits that are really nice gems, mixed in between stuff I need to clear out... Venus Petrov wrote: @Pussycat: I love the colors on you! Where is that location?? Straits of Shermerville, I'm facing Shermerville itself with my camera on the bridge. This time in furry form. Another of my new outfits. Butterfly blouse and button shorts. The hat's from a sailer outfit by Bare Rose. The furry kit is from AnthroXtacy. The hair is a different hair from Jonah Dreads. The pose is from the same pose maker as my last shot. At first I was going to remake the same image exactly but as a furry; but then I just had to get use out of another of those poses, and once I did I realized I needed a sailer hat...
