He it seems to be equal (if what people say about some of the female avatars being men are true). I think its fast becoming an outdated myth that only men use computers. Women generally stopped sitting in the back room knitting sweaters a -long- time ago.
  2. Carole Franizzi wrote: I'm seeing them in sex sims. Yep. Dressed like lil gurlies, with ankle socks and baby doll dresses and puff sleeves, they sometimes were flatties and sometimes heels, which creates an odd effect - rather like seeing a little girl trying on her mother's high-heeled shoes. The cutsie hair-dos, like bunches and ponytails, add to the infantile effect, the primary "symptom" of which is the height - usually about waist-height to everyone else. The odd lollypop or teddybear can also be seen.... So....what the heck is going on? Is this a troll post or something? The 'sexy school girl' look for adult women dates back to some cave in Africa in the year 40,000 BC or so. Pigtails, fluffy mini-dresses, and so on... that's not age play. Its just 'F-me now' play. Personally I'd be more suspicious of any child dressed like that than any adult... Look at real 'Catholic School Girl' outfits and no, they don't exactly look like that. (all of the images below are PG, but you might get a raised eyebrow if you look at them at work) The real thing: http://www.singlebabymommas.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/20081013-new_uniform-1024.jpg http://www.thegoldes.com/Jessilyn/Images/Jessi%20Pics/Jessi%20in%20Jumper%20Uniform.jpg The "Look": http://plaidskirts.net/Sexy-school-girl-uniform.jpg You might think that's ageplay... But goole 'sexy uniform' on google images... its a generic theme - men, and women, like women in uniforms that are 'somewhat revealing' - and it doesn't matter what kind of uniform: http://www.cu2nite.com.au/ldc/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/five-of-a-kind.jpg You've got the 'fantasy' all wrong I suspect. Oh, and this is a pretty popular theme around the world: I think its amost absurd to confuddle this with ageplay.
  3. What ethnicity and gender are the first questions to answer before going too far. Search for skin shops inworld and on marketplace and try out a good 10-20 demos... Once you've got a huge selection of demos go somewhere isolated enough that you can sit there and change between them and narrow it down. Then put aside 1000L, and buy one. That's about $3.80US. You can afford that, or you wouldn't be able to afford being in SL. I just spent more than that on my latte on the way home from church today... Here's about the budget to be a fully tricked out SL user, on the low end, smartly planned: 300-1000L: skin (the second best skin I've ever bought cost 300L for a male 'fashion alt' I set up to model male clothes once I get there - and caused me to go back and buy some female skins from the same maker for an alt. The best skin I ever bought cost 1000L - the worst skin I ever bought cost 1200L). 500L: quality AO on the cheap (the sim 'Anime' (on map, not search - that's the sim name not shop name) is full of these, and the vendors have LMs to their mainstores). Hair: 200L - I've never paid more for a hair, and I've bought some great ones. You only need 1 if you window shop carefully. For the past 12 months I've only worn 2 of mine - one for when I go neko and one that fits my furry but looks a lot like my neko one, both made by Jonah Dreads but he only works if you want dreadlocks. Before I found him I still had no trouble buying under 200L and can help with LMs if needed). Clothes: 5-outfits for 400-750L. Go to Bare Rose and Lavish Style to easily stay in the range of under 150L per outfit. If you want reggae hit my shop - which launched reggae clothes last night ( but I'm new to making clothes ). There are -MANY- low cost clothing makers in SL. The trick is that they don't tend to be listed first in marketplace, and their adverts often don't look as polished (with the exception of Bare Rose - she makes a RL income by being the Macy's of Second Life). Shoes: 1 pair for 150L. Hit some chairs for 2-3 more freebies if you need them. Unlike RL your avatar's shoes are not connected to the nerves in your brain that are right next to the nerve center that controls female orgasms, so you don't need as many of them. So that's... 2700L. In US dollars... $10.38. Do that and you're done shopping in SL for 'necessities' - the rest is just polishing. I don't believe there is anyone in SL that can't afford that. Its just that people need to convince themselves they can. Do it once and do it right, and you can then exists on freebies and just playing with friends for the rest of your time in SL, buying things only as desired. Merchants will hate hearing that, but its true.
  4. Enable auto return on your land and anything not yours will go away. Clear out your cache and textures will work better. V2 has an issue when after some upgrades the textures its cached before don't seem to stay stable with the new version... (V1 might have that issue too, but as its rather old now, hasn't seen an upgrade that would trigger this since 2009. Unless some of the TPVs do things that cause it as well. I don't know).
  5. Your quote doesn't show anything. So I've gone looking to see if I can do your work for you in this, and below I've partly succeeded in arguing your point that you should have been backing yourself if you were going to advocate it. It states that sexual activity is not allowed on M land: Second Life's Moderate designation accommodates most of the non-adult activities common in Second Life. ... content that includes some "sexy" clothing or objects can generally reside in Moderate rather than Adult regions ... don't promote sexual conduct, for instance through pose balls (whether in "backrooms" or more visible spaces). However if any of these businesses uses adult-oriented search tags, the region may be categorized as Adult and blocked from appearing in non-Adult search. We've all been inferring it. But where is it? I -do- think we're correct to infer it, but there's no proof of that inferance. We almost have something here: The FAQs offer examples of the types of regions that are and are not considered Adult, based for example on distinctions between "public" and "private" content, as well as distinctions between content that is "expressly sexually themed" and content that is not. In the part I've underlined. But that language is weakened by the second half of the sentence stating expressly sexual as an 'as well as' category rather than under the umbrella of public/private. So turning to that FAQ for clarity. The first thing to notice is the FAQ is not written by a linden, but by a resident. Yet it is linked to by a page written by lindens so I -guess- that makes it trustworthy. The new definitions for PG, Mature, and Adult land are eventually supposed to be followed by everyone. In particular, some things that used to be allowed on Mature land, will not be any more. If you fall in that category, you would have to change those things, or move to Adult land. ... (2) Mixed public and private use of a parcel, for example a store at ground level which only sells non-adult items, and a skybox above, which is residential, and contains sex furniture. The landing point is at the store only. This would require a moderate rating. And there is something. In fact that's something pretty solid. It defuddles some of what Blondin had stated. Or does it just imply from what Blondin stated by a resident? Still, no linden has come to contradict it and in fact they've linked to it. So I guess that answers -my- concern with regards to locations that are genuinely private. But I would still argue actor beware for anything at ground or otherwise easily publicly accessible. (And I'm not bothered to have half or more of my argument defeated here by my own post - this is all I've been looking for all this time. An actual statement. People have been putting forth a stance for 2 years now without ever backing it up. A position needs backing to be credible. Still concerned that this section of the FAQ was entered by a resident.) 6. Some of the large estate holders with a mass array of sims have been profitable by being merciless and shifting people about rather suddenly - and are known for this. Others have been profitable by being very communitarian and managing their reputation with their clients carefully - while holding a stable set of a moderate number of sims. Research them by their reputations among their tenants, and more importantly if you can find it - their ex-tenants. Not by the scale of their business.
  7. Lasher Oh wrote: Welcome back General Discussions , is this a sign that the Forums Micro Managing regime is finally crumbling and will this be followed by a more even handed and liberal approach to moderation? I think it just means that they have better categories now, and a general place can work without getting as cluttered.
  8. Ceka Cianci wrote: it was said that you could have sex beds on mature land and that you could have sex in your private homes.. you don't need a sky box for it.. See... A lot of people have this perception. But -where- was it said? Find the quote. I don't think it exists. I think its a common perception and might be correct, but its not in the ToS and there doesn't appear to be any statement on record to the effect - that I've been able to find.
  9. Chelsea Malibu wrote: That might be a rather hard sale as at a minimum, that land would cost $60.00 US where a well built house would cost $16.00 US on Marketplace. You can get a well built house on the marketplace for 0L if you search hard enough. Of course you'll spend $50US of your -time- finding it... But yeah - house prices are cheap in SL, its the land that's costly - and the cost is mostly in their tier fee. To OP: you can also find a landlord in SL that rents short term and rent a small plot - some people not only start that way, but prefer to stay that way rather than go premium. Personally I prefer premium. But if you're unsure renting would be best for the start as you can get out of it easier.
  10. A landlord in SL is anyone who's acquired land from LL's and allows someone else to use it. Its a buyer beware market for tenants. If they lack funds to keep going, they lack funds, and well; can't keep going. My suggestion to you would be to get some land on mainland and either stay there or wait there while you research a new landlord. I'm not sure what would be sufficient proof that a landloard is stable though... Everyone's going to have a different standard for that. An alternative tactic is to rent stalls in a few malls. I always thought people who rented in malls were fools, until a friend of mine started doing it and then I started getting an idea of how much money she was pulling in from it. Even with half the malls closing and new ones opening up every month - she was able to keep 3 or 4 going at all times and her business grew to the point where she finally took her original mainland 512 and grew it to somewhere around 16000 to 20000m of land. Lots of malls out there, get some small ones and scatter your products by theme, moving around as needed, until you're satisfied with research on a place for a mainstore.
  11. This is actually one the main (and really only legit) reason why such small parcels are created and sold. Often once the land of a sim is all cut up into nice chunks for everybody to use - the presence of a linden road or water causes the cuts to not have perfect shapes, and some bits get left over. People grab them up as 'prim land' as you have, or in past would grab them up to create spamming server locations / adboards / griefer spots, and so on. - Over time most of them have either been abandoned or ended up in the hands of 'real users' lke yourself who want more prims. Just bought 4 of them myself on my home sim from the lindens yesterday. I also just AR'd one last night in Isabel sim for having a 40m tall multiple advert sign on it... If you see any tiny lots on your sim that are abandoned, and want even more prims - put in a ticket to get them sold to you. It can take a few weeks for your place in the line of tickets to come up, but its a good way to get a few more prims and put some leftover land to good use.

  13. I just finishing ARing a guy in a PG sim who was naked and hanging out by a child AV, of course he also had a 'stiff bit' attached... But I do wonder if this could have been the reason. When this happens to you change outfits -completely- AND rebake textures. If it persists, you might have to delete your cache: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\SecondLife Its hit me once before (that I know of) as well.
  14. I deleted my cache folders in these locations just a few days ago to solve this problem: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\SecondLife Note that this was deleting -too much- and as a result I also ended up wiping out my chat logs and landmarks (I didn't realize landmarks were locally stored). ALL of my landmarks from 2009 on, went poof. Actually kinda nice to have that happen after the first few seconds of horror I realized I'd just cut my inventory in half and gotten rid of a lot of junk. But I think you only need to delete the one under Local - every few weeks or viewer upgrade most likely.
  15. Tomais: Ooooo, I really like that. Classy outfit and a nice backdrop.
  16. Dnali Anabuki wrote: Agree Pussycat but the Meeroos have been scripted very well and turn them selves off if the sim stats get too low. That's what the bunny people, horse people, and even chicken folks all claimed as well. Frankly I'm of opinion that my post is more positive on this than any other post on these SL-horrors. Anything promoting banning of them or restricting them to private estate sims would be positive... You cannot post about something seen as a threat to the grid by many and not expect some commentary, when the OP itself is seen as promoting something negative. And my comments are mild compared to what some discussion of these things can dip into.
  17. http://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2010/08/08/getting-started-in-second-life/#Preferences Down at the bottom of the Advanced menu is a thing that says ‘Show Debug Settings’ – click that. CameraOffsetDefault (In Viewer 1 based viewers, including TPVs like Ascent/Phoenix/Imprudence) CameraOffsetRearView (In Viewer 2 including TPVs such as Kirstens, Starlight and Catznip) X: -2.000 Y: -0.400 (Make positive for a left shoulder view or keep 0.000 for a centred view.) Z: -0.200 This will make SL look a heck of a lot more like a 3D world looks in most games – which allow for objects to not seem as cramped as they tend to in Second Life. Those numbers come from Penny Patton As for picking which camera you look through, look for the 'eyeball' icon on the view window. Click it and pick between front, rear, and side.
  18. I'm repeating this a lot lately, but that's a good thing. Here's my blog on getting started in Second Life: http://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2010/08/08/getting-started-in-second-life/ I hope it makes it all a little easier to understand. If I've missed something big still, let me know. Just updated it for display names and searchable interests.
  19. One scion chicken is the same as the next. Lag monsters need to go.
  20. I think I've been to Penny's shop a year or so ago and never realized it was -only- a 2048. As my avatar is likewise at the same scale as her, the place felt huge. Along the same lines as Prim Oven is Sculpt Crafter. SC lets you do it with 10 prims in their sandbox for free, or a -LOT- of prims (up until you build a sculpty with the max edges than sculpty maps are allowed to have by SL's rules) if you buy it (but its a bit more expensive than Prim Oven).
  21. Void Singer wrote: yes, as long as it's not publicly exposed Everything in a Linden home -IS- publicaly exposed. Too close together and at ground. So people can and will see you and anything you do in them should not be considered private. By the ToS it would be ARable. As sexbeds on M land were never approved. The only language to their effect was a cryptic answer from a now-former-linden saying 'well nobody will find it' when asked whether or not using a sexbed on M land was ok. Kinda skipped the question. So... use at your own risk until such time as the lindens provide more clarity - which they are famous for not doing when it comes to adult activities. HOWEVER... the most liberal interpretion of that statement I can reasonably infer is that it would be ok if well hidden... as long as it was not found... ( ). Which rules out anything at ground, especially in a place so exposed like a Linden home.
  22. The map and landmarks ought to look up the access settings of a lot - that would be a nice improvement. As they don't - if you're on viewer 2 just use your teleport history to go to one step before the place that booted you.
  23. Ian Undercroft wrote: Poor naming decisions seems a poor reason for inflicting this awful new system on us all. I would expect anyone to have realised within a matter of days that their naming decision was a mistake. The simple solution was to create a new account. I did that. 3 years in though - but I was still new. Made an account in 2006, didn't stick around for an assortment of reasons. Came back in 2009 and was around for a month before I changed names/accounts. I just told all my friends the new name, went back to all the freebie places I'd gotten things from, and spent about $10 USA buying replacement items. Then I cancelled premium on the old one and got it on the new one. I deal with newbies all the time. I've got my blog for new residents, I've got a lot with a lot of help info for them, and I've got a few freebies and items in the under 10L range on marketplace. So I see new residents popping up in my logs constantly. SL has run out of first names. The names I see popping up are getting weirder by the day as people try all sorts of tricks to get something decent. Recently they've been resorting to using special characters and case-flipping (though I don't think case matters to the database - I see it mixes with things like vowels with the dots over them), or putting the digits of their birthday on the end. Its just going to keep getting worse.
