  1. Always willing to put things onto my blog if the advice in question is something I believe to be useful and truthful.
  2. I find it highly counter-productive. If notices only came in when I was online - or if I could set this as an option for some groups it wouldn't be so bad. But groups with subject I very much desire to follow, I mute... Anything more than 1 notice a day is more than needed for any practical purpose. Send me a notice at the beginning of the day or week with your schedule for the coming period - and you and I both know that if I'm in your group that notice is going to hit me online or off if I've got notices on at all. Any more than that and you just start encourage your followers to leave. If you want to get all the people online right now to come by RIGHT NAOZ!!!, then use group chat. If its frustrating for me on V2 where I can sort them and chose to close some while leaving others around - people on V1 must be going nuts... as they have to deal with them all in order and close all of them in order to reach one they might want... Spam me all you want in group chat - it won't affect me when I'm offline. Use notices for period schedules - weekly, monthly, or whatever.
  3. What's a prim mine? Or is that just the name of some creative build they're up to?
  4. Yeah um... if anyone's still using Apez at this point they shouldn't be. Reminds me I need to derez the last of my Apez 'magic boxes.' I'm lucky that I only ever sold freebies and a few low cost items through them. I'd hate to be in the position of something more. They've got maybe 100-200L of my money, which I can handle shrugging off... Others were not so "lucky."

All you're Facebook belong to us will use all the info they can and you may find a message on your phone when you walk near that store you mentioned on FB. Geolocation is a powerful thing. This is kind of why Facebook has been finding itself in front of Congressional hearings of late... They may or may not be in violation of the Can spam act and other privacy laws.
  6. And you should read my reply: You can use About Land to confirm any one of those scripts. And the results will show you many of them are accurate. About Land -> Script Info button at the bottom of first tab -> My Avatar. And you can then pull out sim performance tools in an empty sim and confirm it again. Those blocks count in steps yes - but that's still a uage as that's steps of memory reserved away from other uses.
  7. I just wanna know how many of you tall folks can stretch a prim out the length of your wingspan - finger tip to finger tip with the arms in a T-pose, and have that prim be the height of your avatar? If you can do that, then I've got nothing but kudos for you (*) - be you human, furry, na'vi-smurf, dragon, robot, or whatever. But otherwise I'm gonna lol inside when I see you. The other big test for you - that by contrast many short avatars have trouble with: take a prim from crotch to foot sole, and copy it on top of itself, the top of the new prim should reach the top of your head. Tall avatars can do this easy - but most fail from bad design. Short avatars need to use a bunch of sliders to do it. (*) arm length, shoulder width, and torso width will help achieve this.
  8. Medhue Simoni wrote: Oh, I also should mention, that the most important thing about mesh to reduce lag, is that mesh objects will replace the 2 most lag intense set of objects that almost every1 wears. These are shoes and hair. Shoes and hair are the 2 items that use massive amounts of prims to create. Mesh will cut the prim amount in half or much more. I get shoes but not hair, unless mesh will be flexi / dynamic cloth enabled.
  9. I routinely use megaprims where I know it will save on prim usage as that can be a major concern for newer, smaller landowners. Over time I've also taken to using sculpties for the same effect (allowing for walls that seem to be made of dozens of prims but are actually only 1). Just make sure that any build with megas is copy - so that if a person messes it up and the prims snap down to 10m size, they can rez a new copy. And never make the mega the root prim, as the entire build will then show the wrong creator name. Hopefully soon these issues will be moot points as the size of prims we can use will go up.
  10. This happens every weekend and goes away on Monday... Its annoying but the other option is paying someone to work weekends in here... which I'm sure they can afford, but are too busy padding exec salaries and bemoaning budget limits, meaning the funds to do it would probably come out of what's left of inworld support...
  11. There's also a chance its a mole build or a library item we've all forgotten. If a mole build - then good luck getting it. The moles almost never release their stuff to the public. Probably some policy against competing with residents (that's been ignored in the land market since linden homes). But if a library build, we'd be lucky and all have it hidden away somewhere.
  12. I've been to such a sim before, so I know it exists. Ask some people in Luskwood, someone there might know.
  13. Most shops have a space set aside for rezzing items. But if you can't find one - pretty much all of my land allows rezzing and has a return time ranging from 1 minute to 5 minutes. Go through my Picks and pick a spot that's low on traffic at that time (my newbie help zone tends to be laggy due to being inbwteen an infohub and a newbie club, but the others are all on fairly queit sims).
  14. Sort of resembles a Luskwood design, but with less detail: http://www.slarf.org/luskwood-bigcat/ Interesting. I've been wondering the same thing.
  15. It should be noted also that there are some very good makers in SL that do -not- script their boots, hair, or jewelry. Find them - and do not shop at places that overscript. A good indicator is the presence of modify on the permissions. If its modify its less likely to be overscripted - but even if it is, you can strip out the scripts (but sometimes even once the script is gone, it continues to run. It is possible to stop it, but I forget how as I haven't had to do this since 2009 - but I do recall it being trivally easy). I say this onlybecause invariably in this kind of thread someone always jumps in with the 'how dare you make us wear junk - we don't care if we crash the entire grid, we want teh sexxors nao!' They're usually too idiotic to realize or believe or even try out suggested stores tha have often better quality items for what they want... and instead just keep flaming the thread with a demand to be able to run around with a 300mb scripted hair... I liken them to people who run out into oncomming traffic and as they die from getting run over say "WTF, pedestrians have right of way!" refusing to realizing that the laws of physics have even more 'right of way' and say a car going 50mph can't stop on a dime... SL just won't run with all that overscripting - so you can suffer SL death, or change what you wear: those are just the only choices.

"A message cannot be sent to a harvested email address" Applicable to online commercial speach: "any electronic mail message the primary purpose of which is the commercial advertisement or promotion of a commercial product or service (including content on an Internet website operated for a commercial purpose)." Out-outs -AND- a physical RL address are required as well. Which creates a muddy area for SL... Its quite possible that LL's adfarm policy - which itself forbids unsolicited spam, was made not in response to user outcry over all the spam that used to be prevalent in SL, but someone in legal pointing out that LLs would not want to come under scrutiny of the CAN-SPAM act.
  17. Abuse report it. Every single instance of it. Spamming unsolicited is against ToS and in violation of US 'CAN SPAM' laws. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN-SPAM_Act_of_2003 - which have specific rules over how one can spam someone.
  18. Melissa Yeuxdoux wrote: Thanks for setting it all down in one place. I choose to be as tall (and leggy) as I can possibly be in SL--guess it comes from watching _Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman_ and seeing pictures of Anna Swan when I was little--but that's my choice, and having everything out of scale kills the effect, as you show. You'll improve that effect if you sit down and try to improve the proportions. There's nothing you can do for the arm slider, but you can get most of the rest of it to look proportional even at a tall height - and then used 'controlled' distortion for a specific intentional effect. And you'll look better than all the tall people who are just that way from dialing up 'random sliders'. I did that with my Na'vi when I first made her. I redid the shape I'd gotten with my Na'vi skin so that she had good proportions (minus arm slider), and then morphed off from that to as close of the movie's effect as I could do, without looking freakish (because unlike in the movie, I'd be wandering around a world not populated with other na'vi). And I was still somewhere between 7 to 8 feet tall.
  19. Luc Starsider wrote: As far as male avatars are concerned, I haven't noticed the same shift. Males seem to be as tall (and wide, with even smaller heads ) as they were when I joined SL. I'm wondering if others see the same thing, or if the scale is really changing for both genders? - Luc - A lot of men seem to want to make their heads smaller and smaller and smaller - and their arms shorter and shorter and shorter, and their hands tinier and tinier and tinier. But the shoulders wider and wider... You've got to wonder where they're trying to go with this.
  20. Penny Patton wrote: 1) They can fix the camera placement. All it takes to vastly improve the SL camera placement is changing a few numbers in the debug menu. Anyone can do this easily, but only a very small minority tend to change defaults so it would be ideal if LL changed the defaults themselves. Instructions on how to do so are here. PS: Those instructions suggest setting one of the values to -7000. I suspect this is a typo and -0.700 was meant instead, since -0.700 gives a result that resembles Penny's screenshots.

I've been called creepy for whatever reason I dont know why I've also been called a pedo which doesnt even make sense at all. I'm the CHILD not and adult looking to seduce children! I do try and stick with pg/g sims MOST of the time and have come accross some pg/g sims that dont allow child avatars. Its ok for a 16 year old to be there, but not a 27 year old to be there just because of their avatar. Yeah.... makes sense..... pffff Michael Jackson problem. You are living Michael Jackson's dream - and people are reacting to you the same way they did to him.

Ishtara Rothschild wrote: Pussycat Catnap wrote: If I made a sim where we 'roleplayed' putting certain members of a real life faith and ethnicity into gas ovens... or roleplayed a certain other ethnicity getting lynched... People would laugh if I tried to call it anything -but- hate speech. A rape RP environment is no different. The difference is that consensual rape role play is perfectly legal, even in RL, whereas the first example is probably not. Although... didn't the actors in movies such as Schindler's List do just that? The difference is one of simple context. A movie like Schindler's List is not fantacising about subjecting such people to that experience. Its recalling it and shedding light on it - not indulging or glorifying it. Were I to put out a film advocating genocide or glamorizing it or even fantcizing about engaging in it - you can be sure I'd face a very hostile reaction, and possibly even legal action (in the US, limited to a civil suit. But in the EU and many other places, possible criminal sanctions).
  24. Penny Patton wrote: Earlier I pointed out that I in no way advocated any body type and asserted that it was possible to get the "tall look" with shorter avatars. If the avatars in this lineup look like "short, dumpy midgets" to you then...well, that would actually be kinda frightening. Your own Avs boobs and hips make her look 'shorter and dumpier' than she actually is. I had to see a couple of images of you in different posts here and there before I realized that was not actually the case for your shape. But the others in the lineup - the first 2 look tall, the fourth average, and the 5th short (because of all things, the length of the amount below the knees suggesting to me a pre-2000s era South Korean (ie: someone who grew up before Korea underwent the food/nutrition revolution).
