How can i tell how many avatars I have created please
Bree Giffen replied to PP Laval's topic in Your Avatar
Isn't there a directory with each avatar's im info? -
It certainly is slow this weekend! But, I see slowness every weekend on the MMOs I am playing.

We should look at all the surveys people have been throwing at us for the past few years and create a giant all inclusive survey. Then we should go in-world and get maybe 100 SL users to answer it. Once that's done we can post it up on a site somewhere and anyone who needs a survey can just get that and be done with it.

Only users with a large amount of subscribers? I wonder what the magic number of subscribers will be. Getting to use a fake name would create an anointed tier.

That contest called Capture Love
Bree Giffen replied to Bree Giffen's topic in General Discussion Forum
Yeah, I thought that roleplaying capture had suddenly become vogue with LL and they were replacing the vampire forums with capture forums as flavor of the month. As far as no photoshop, you can do quite a bit in SL to tweak the photos. The atmospheric settings can adjust the lighting and color. Add light emitting prims for highlights. There are the shadows and depth of field. You can add particles and props. You can add a background prim with whatever image you want in the background. Heck you could set the background prim to semi-transparent and add several background prims with whatever images needed, effectively creating layers as in photoshop. You could put foreground layers as well. Set things to glow. -
There's two places to check in the default SL viewer. Me->preferences->graphics has the shaders over on the left hand side. I think you want everything down to atmospheric shaders turned on. The quality and speed slider at the top of the window also has to be set to 'Mid' at the very least. Depending on your video card, you may not be able to turn things on. Installing the latest video card driver for your card may help as Cinnamon said. You may have a built-in video card or a non-3d type of card in that computer and you may need to upgrade. 3d cards that run SL can be cheap if you don't try getting the newly released cards. You also need to check under World->Environment Editor->Environment Settings to see if you are using any special water setting. The 'default' setting should look 'realistic' if your graphics settings are correct.

Did anyone think of something totally different when they saw the new forum contest called 'Capture Love' or is it just me?

Should Adult land be separated from SL altogether
Bree Giffen replied to Yohan Roux's topic in General Discussion Forum
Removing all adult content may result in increased populations in both separated areas or it may result in a decline for one or both areas. Looking at other virtual worlds that have been run in pg shows significant failures. Adult activity is not the main reason for SL surviving but having it available adds to the sense of freedom one has in SL which doesn't exist anywhere else. -
Why are info-hubs happening? They've only been around for ages in SL. There's nothing static about these places at all. You may see people gathering but you won't see the same crowd all the time. Even those that can be regarded as 'regulars' move on. But what's the appeal? It's more or less a gathering of people without an agenda. It's a public square, a piazza, a place to observe and listen or to speak out and be seen. There's always something happeing and It's all free. No cover charge, no tipping, no fear of getting booted out. There's no hierarchy, owners or employees. It's absolute freedom to do or say anything you want or to do nothing at all.

Looking for complete female avatar - not so girly
Bree Giffen replied to Desertway's topic in Your Avatar
Did you know you can wear most of the clothes for men in SL? You just need to resize the prim pieces like the leg bottoms and the shirt collars. You can actually get a buttoned shirt that doesn't expose your cleavage! Most men's clothing is not girly although you can find those too. -
Suggestions on Where to unload this stuff?
Bree Giffen replied to amarock Amat's topic in General Discussion Forum
I'd just go thru Craigslist. Or find some nerds hanging out on the campus and see if they will buy it. -
I am about 6 feet tall. I make or buy full perm furniture so that everything is the right size in my home. Whenever I bring in new furniture, the first time I rez it in my house really shows to me how incredibly large furniture is built nowadays. I think that what is happening with size is this. The 3rd person over-the-shoulder view that we have in SL is pretty much the 1st person view of a person who is larger than our avatar and standing behind them. It is this '3rd person' that all of our furniture and housing has been designed for. However, upon walking our avatar around this 'embiggened' house, we find our avatar too small and unconsciously need to make them taller. This however causes the '3rd person' to also become taller and once again we find the need to make our homes larger. A vicious cycle indeed.

I would love to live in an urban environment BUT having a large gathering of avatars in one place, socializing or going about their business in their homes would be a huge target for griefers. You can leave a welcome area if it gets griefed but it's harder if you are actually living there. Also, our viewers always load every single prim and texture nearby and with a certain population density there will be just a huge amount of data to download. I think being able to create a huge crowd virtually and making it with lots of quality is something that newer virtual worlds need to tackle. I would go to such a place.

I keep seeing weird lines that flash. Help?
Bree Giffen replied to Requiem Lytham's topic in Your Avatar
In Viewer 3, go to Me->preferences->graphics->hardware and uncheck 'enable openGL vertex buffer objects'. -
Anypose, U-poser - limited vs. Qavimator etc.?
Bree Giffen replied to Nika Talaj's topic in Animation Forum
Qavimator works great for poses and animations. Easy to learn and it's free. -
With the new options of multiple layers, I'd just make a pants layer consisting of just the lettering and everything else transparent. Like a tattoo. Then just wear it with any sweatpants. Like lettering on the chest, it may get deformed due to the size and curvature of the derriere. Thee are also not a lot of pixels available in that area to write a lengthy message.

Making shirt collars from prims is difficult. However there are sculpted full perm collars for sale out there and are fairly cheap. Check the marketplace or in-world.

I would check to see if anyone else is doing such things in SL. If so, see if they are doing it like you would or if you can do better. I think an event planner would need to scout for locations to hold events. Maybe talk to the owners of such places. Talk to everyone you meet in SL and try to gauge the need for your services.

gun obstructs mouselook in viewer 3... help?
Bree Giffen replied to Hoshi Kenin's topic in Your Avatar
Well your weapon has to be attached to your hud or to a standard avatar attachment point. You just need to right click and edit it (out of mouselook). For the hud I use my mouse scroll wheel to zoom out the hud and it allows you to adjust hud attachments. Adjusting the attachment position shouldn't affect the projectiles if it uses the standard scripts. -
I just checked and it looks like you can type into your inventory search "no transfer" without the quotes to see all the no transfer items. I don't see a way to search for "transfer" items. As for selling, there is a 'used items' section in the SL Marketplace. You could also try finding a parcel to have a yard sale on.

I wasn't aware of of the alpha issue with mesh. Haven't been near any water recently. I did just try it and I do see it. It's not that noticeable. You can also try Alice Project for mesh hairs too.
