  2. That particular grammatic witticism has quite a history. There's a nice overview at https://brians.wsu.edu/2016/11/14/churchill-on-prepositions/ , if you're interested. Grammarians face a daunting task. The language conspires against them, as that quotation illustrates. It can be difficult to use correct grammar without being arrantly pedantic. Unless you're blessed with a streak of masochism, the wiser course is to keep your mouth shut. You're outnumbered, after all.
  3. Grammar Nazis have their place, keeping the mother tongue from collapsing into utter chaos. I admit to being one at heart, although I usually keep it to myself. I have a silent but visceral reaction to sloppy grammar, much as my mother had to cigars. I remember her confiding to a friend, "Winston Churchill was a great statesman, but I would have thought more of him if he hadn't smoked cigars." She would never have said anything to his face. Not that she had the chance. 🙄

    Avatar Issues

Rather than retype a full description of how outfits work, I suggest that you read the Knowledge Base article on how to create and use outfits: It should answer most of your questions. The cloud you are seeing is a symptom of Bake Fail -- your avatar has not loaded fully yet. It's very common but usually cures itself automatically within seconds after you log in. It is quite easy to fix. See https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_bake_fail . If you have a chronic problem with bake fail, it is most likely a problem with your Internet connection. You are either using a wifi connection -- generally OK for most SL residents but neither recommended or supported by Linden Lab -- or your router and modem need to be reset. If you are using a classic avatar, you can change gender by using the sliders in Appearance (right click on your avatar and select Appearance >> Edit Shape ). If you are using a mesh avatar, you may have limited success with the sliders, but the best solution is to buy a body that is appropriate for the gender you prefer.
  5. Hmmmmm... I don't know which is more annoying: The people who type three words at a time because they want to be sure that the conversation won't go past while they are typing. After all, most people are too polite to interrupt. Or: The people who type a huge, long, even exhausting statement in chat -- even one that seems to go on and on for a minute or more while they are laboriously typing one slow word after another -- thus holding up conversation for everyone else who is patiently waiting because, of course, that's what polite people do when they can see that someone is about to present a lengthy and well thought out comment, like this one.
  6. So, one usually takes heed. ROAMS Ack Hopelessly, our mothers expected sanity. BLIND
  7. Did you look for transparent items (CTRL-Alt-T)? Did you look underground? Did you set your viewer's editor to Select By Surrounding and Select My Items Only and then drag a selection rectangle to see if you can select hidden items?
  8. You are dealing with a very common phenomenon. Essentially, the pixels at the visible edge of your texture are being averaged with the transparent pixels next to them, yielding a very narrow border that is light colored. (Not quite, but that's the general idea.) There are many ways to get rid of it. Among the easiest: 1. In Photoshop (or GIMP or whatever), duplicate your visible layer, put the duplicate layer under the original, and stretch it just a little. When your alpha mask, based on the original layer, does its job, it will no longer be cutting along a border between visible and empty pixels. The white halo will disappear. 2. Or, simply place a dark base layer under your image. Again, the alpha mask will be cutting out your image along a boundary that has visible pixels on both sides. No halo. 3. You can find plug-in filters for Photoshop (Google "Flaming Pear", for example) that do essentially what method #1 does, but do it automatically.
  9. You could always submit a support case to ask Linden Lab. Years ago, my alt had the same issue and they cleared it up within hours. As Alwin says, though, LL rarely accepts a debit card, so I wouldn't be surprised to see you having strange issues with one, even if it appears to work for some things. I suggest getting a real credit card or using PayPal.

  16. I only started noticing "k" and "kk" within the past few months in SL. I thought maybe they were a regional or cultural thing or some passing linguistic fad, like "bespoke" (which means .... ??).
