  1. Yes, they will still see you, and they will have no idea that you have blocked them unless you tell them. They might wonder why you don't answer when they say something in IM of chat, but let them guess. Of course, if you tell them in IM, that automatically UNblocks them. :smileywink:
  2. I have absolutely no idea, Avelinne. If you have a technical problem, it is best to start your own question instead of adding yours to a different one that might have nothing to do with it. Then, tell us exactly what the error message says. Also tell us what viewer your using, what computer you are using, what kind of graphics card it has, what sort of Internet connection you are using, and anything else that might help us understand what's wrong.
  3. That's a little confusing. Exactly what does the message say? I'm afraid that "about land source" doesn't make much sense to me. Also, you don't need to attach anything when you are rezzing furniture. You attach things to wear them. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add more information and tell us exactly what you are trying to do and exactly what's going on. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  4. If you're over 18, you can TP to Mature sims where you can buy skins that aren't like the "modesty" skin you get as a newbie. You can get some pretty good freebie ones, but the best skins cost money.... anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand L$.
  5. A script to do that only has to handle that one function. I think this ought to do it..... default{ state_entry() { llSetPrimMediaParams(2,[PRIM_MEDIA_PERMS_CONTROL,PRIM_MEDIA_PERM_OWNER]); }} That should limit control on whatever URL you display on face 2 of your prim, so that only you can see the media control bar above the object. See http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSetPrimMediaParams for other possible features.
  6. There's no error message that says "Second Life doesn't work", so we can't begin to guess what the problem is. Well, that's not quite true. Making a 95% blind guess, I'm going to say that you are either trying to run an extinct version of the Second Life viewer (version 1.23 maybe?) or you are using a very old computer. Maybe both. If I'm close to being right, you may not have an easy time getting in world. The basic Second Life viewer has been upgraded many times in the past 2 or 3 years and it requires a much more powerful computer than the old viewers did. If you are lucky, you might be able to install one of the third party viewers that are based on the old V1 code (See http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory). As I said up front, though, I am really guessing. To give you a good answer, I'd need to know what viewer you really are using, and what kind of computer (and the type of graphics card it has). To add that information and anything else that might be helpful, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread. ETA: Hehehe... It looks like everyone else is saying the same thing, but they type faster than I do. :smileylol:
  7. You're probably not going to have much luck. The Via Chrome 9 Hcp IGP WDMM was never designed for gaming use. It's a lightweight chip intended for office software -- e-mail, web browsing, spreadsheets..... Not only that, but it's really old. According to what I can find, it was around in 2007. Laptops with on-board chipsets are often problematic for SL anyway. I'm surprised that you can see anything, even with your graphics slider set to Low.
  8. That might be a problem, for two reasons. First, Windows 8 is still in beta release, so there's no guarantee yet that SL will work well with it. Second, if you have a laptop with a built in Intel video chip, you may have performance issues. If you can get upgraded drivers to work, you'll get them here .... Intel Video Driver Intel driver download page Intel does not have a universal driver set. Please go to Intel's site and select the appropriate download.
  9. It probably has nothing to do with the restarts at all. When LL does a restart, it's changing the software in the servers that run the sims, not things that change the way your viewer works. Still, inventories do get borked. It happens to everyone sooner or later, expecially if you have a wonky Internet connection. Chances are good that the only problem is right in your own computer, which holds the cached copy of inventory that you see in your viewer. The way to solve the problem is to remove that cached copy "manually" (not by just clicking the Clear Cache button) and force your viewer to download a fresh one from Linden Lab's computers. So ..... Open Preferences → Network & Cache. Go to the first path “Cache Location” and click the “Open” button behind the path. This will open a file explorer window displaying your current cache location. Logout (close the viewer) and then delete everything inside the cache folder displayed in your file explorer. Should you not be able to start the viewer to bring up Preferences, then locate the folder manually. In its default location, the folder is hidden on most OSs. To find it, you will need to show hidden folders. Now you need to locate the settings folder: Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[uSERNAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Firestorm Windows Vista: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Local\Firestorm Windows 7: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Local\Firestorm Mac: ~/Library/Caches/Firestorm linux: ~/.firestorm/cache (Notice that these instructions say "Firestorm" but you can substitute the name of your own viewer. The instructions are the same for any of them.) Now continue as follows: Log back into SL, to a quiet region (try the Phoenix Support parcel or a Linden water region such as aich or hatton). On your inventory window, click “Recent Items”. Wait for your inventory to repopulate fully. The process may be sped up, if necessary, by typing random letters into the search bar. While inventory repopulates, do not teleport anywhere, and do not attempt to access anything in your inventory. Talk to people or surf the web. Watch as it repopulates. as long as you can see (Fetched…) at the top of the inventory window, it is still loading. Once inventory has repopulated, log out of SL once more, then log back in. ETA: If you ever want to submit a support ticket, just go to https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/
  10. I suspect that you're right, Innula. I don't know anyone offhand with a gargantuan name, but I guess you could write a script to capture a legacy name like that at random. Go to a crowded club and start trolling till you find a test case. I'd be interested in knowing the answer too.
  11. The Firestorm viewer has a Phantom option that you can turn in to make your avatar impossible to shove. If anyone tries, he just moves right through you. There is a catch, though. You can't move. So, the option is fine if you are standing in one spot and trying to frustrate a bad guy, but not if you plan on enjoying a normal life in SL. There are few scripted tools in SL that do the same thing as Firestorm's Phantom option, but they have the same limitation. And they cost L$. The best way to avoid being shoved around is just to sit down. On anything. Once you're seated, you're immobile. Then just ignore the bozos till they get tired and go away. Take a look at this long article on ideas for dealing with griefers (or just annoying people) >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Fr43k_Paine/Dealing_With_Griefers . They ought to help.
  12. I have a female body shape too. I love it. :smileylol: If you don't love yours, just replace it. A shape is like skin, clothes, HUDs, or anything else that you wear. Buy a new one, find one in your inventory, or make yourself a new one by playing with the Appearance sliders, and then just wear it. You always have to wear some shape --- I mean, after all, what would you look like without any shape at all? --- but in SL you get to choose, and to change yours when you get tired of it. Don't you wish you could do that in RL?
  13. The only things you will be able to save are the things that you can transfer to another avatar in world. You can copy full perm textures and scripts to your desktop, but that's all you can transfer out of SL. If you have an alt or a very good friend who agrees to watch your stuff (and give it back later), then you can at leave preserve that much in world when you close your account. Anything that's non-transferable is toast, though.
  14. You have to have your graphics quality slider (in Preferences >> Graphics) set to Ultra, if your computer can handle it. Then, on that same page in Preferences, check the box that enables shadows. You should be aware that your performance will drop with shadows enabled, and that there are some issues with shadows and some graphics cards.
  15. If you have a Basic membership, don't bother cancelling it. It costs you nothing at all to keep the account alive, but if you cancel it and want to reinstate the account, it will cost you $9.95. AND you might not get your avatar and your inventory back. So, leave any groups that normally charge you a fee, so that your account doesn't keep incurring those small fees, and move out of any place that you are paying rent. Then just go "on vacation" in RL. Your account will still be here, waiting quietly for your return.
  16. Just a thought, but you might try updating (or perhaps backdating) your graphics drivers. Mac drivers are included with OS upgrades. However, to determan what card you have, select “About this Mac” from the Apple menu, then click “More Info”. Under Hardware select Graphics/Displays If you are not sure what type of video card you have, use GPU-Z found (win only) here. For linux, in a console use: lspci | grep VGA Nvidia Video Driver Latest driver Last checked Feb 6th- Windows: 285.62 (Oct 24) beta: 295.51 (Jan 31) - Linux: 290.1 (Nov 22)ATI Video Driver Latest driver Last checked Feb 6th- Windows and Linux: 12.1 (Jan 25)Intel Video Driver Intel driver download page Intel does not have a universal driver set. Please go to Intel's site and select the appropriate download.
  17. Good question. It's really hard to say without knowing anything at all about your computer or Internet connection. My best guess, though, is that you have a firewall or an antivirus routine blocking SL from working. See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 and http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting If that doesn't work, come back here and let us know. Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add information. Please do NOT start a new thread.

In order to play Flash format videos (eg YouTube videos), you must have the generic Adobe Flash plugin installed. If you use IE as your web browser and already have Flash, you will need to get the generic Flash plugin; see here. linux users need to have gstreamer installed, with the “bad” plugin set. If you use IE as your default browser, some have found that the simplest is to download and install FireFox. Once that's done, use it to visit YouTube and start a video; this will prompt for the Flash plugin to be installed - so install it. Make sure that YouTube videos will now play in FireFox. That should be enough the get Flash working in Firestorm (and other SL viewers).
  21. When you reinstalled the viewer, did you do a clean reinstall, or did you just delete the viewer itself? The part that usually gets borked is the roaming and local files, which always survive a reinstall unless you remove them deliberately. I'm not confident that doing a clean reinstall will solve your problem, but it removes a lot of uncertainty (and it's the smart thing to do anyway). My guess is that you have a chronic connection problem, so your viewer and SL's servers are temporarily losing the ability to talk to each other. (Always check http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ first, BTW. Everyone has been crashing at odd times for past few days as LL has been repairing the servers) So here are a couple of things to try ..... (1) Try shutting off your computer, unplugging the router and modem for a couple of minutes, and then plugging them back in and restarting. That simple step may clear up everything (2) Add Google's free public DNS servers to whatever your ISP assigns you as a default. Here's how >>> http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ If those don't work, click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question here and select EDIT to add more information or just let us know. 22. Noooooooooooo....... The OP in this incredibly old thread was the landlord. He doesn't want to find an apartment to rent. He's trying to rent out a mess of apartments and shops in the same building and keep the tenants straight. It's an interesting challenge, since the entire building is obviously on the same parcel. This is actually a pretty common problem, with some good answers.
  23. Nicely done. You are quite close indeed. As you guessed, since there is no sixth position in the list, you can't tell it to texture face i = 5. Your logic is pretty good except for that. Try this ... integer i;integer prim = 1;addTexture(){ if (i >4) { i=0; ++prim; if (prim > llGetNumberOfPrims()) { llSay(0,"All Done!"); } } else { integer face = (integer)llList2String( ["3","7","4","6","1"] ,i ); llSetLinkTexture(prim, "The Race", face); i++; }}default{ touch_start(integer detected) { addTexture(); }} Here's a tighter way of doing it, too...... integer i;integer prim = 1;addTexture(){ while( prim <= llGetNumberOfPrims()) { integer face = (integer)llList2String( ["3","7","4","6","1"] ,i ); llSetLinkTexture(prim, "The Race", face); i = (++i)%4; //That is, i is the remainder of (the next i)/4 if (!i) //that is, if i = 0 { ++prim; } } llSay(0,"All Done!");}default{ touch_start(integer detected) { addTexture(); }
  24. More specifically, here are Firestorm's remedies for bridge problems >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bridge_issues Notice this particular bit of advice: "If you have the bridge recreating on each log in or each TP, this is likely related to your connection. So, please make sure your bandwidth is set correctly, per this page - and please follow the steps exactly. If you need to get rid of excess bridges that may have accumulated due to this frequent recreation, proceed as above."
  25. Bling is a particle effect, a prim property. It will continue unless it is turned off by a script. The creator probably left his script in the shoes, and you may still have instructions buried in a notecard somewhere....... saying something like /1 bling off might be the command, but it could be anything. You'd need the notecard. If you don't have it, you'll have to find a way to turn off the bling without it, like this .... default{ state_entry() { llSetParticleSystem([]); llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName()); }} Dropping that script into your shoes should kill the bling. There are only two problems: (1) The creator's script will still be in there, so you'll have to delete it (My little script deletes itself, BTW) and (2) Your shoes may be no mod. If that's the case, all bets are off. You're stuck with the bling. :smileysad: You can get rid of resizer scripts by just opening the object's inventory and deleteing them..... if the object is no mod. Otherwise, again, you're stuck.
