  1. It's probably on your neighbor's parcel, so you'll have to ask him to click the little button in About Land >> Sound that says "Restrict gesture and object sounds to this parcel." If it's NOT on your neighbor's parcel, you can go looking for it with a beacon. Type CTRL + Alt + Shift + N to see the beacon control window, and then select Sound Sources. You'll see a crosshair wherever here's an object with a sound generator in it. Find the one you want and mute it.
  2. You might be able to find such a class at Builder's Brewery or Caledon Oxbridge University, but I suspect that it will be disappointing if you do. A HUD is just like any other scripted object. The only thing that makes it different is that you wear it on your screen insterad of rezzing it in world for others to see. Making a HUD, therefore, means writing a script for whatever it is that you want the HUD to do, and that's not something that you learn to do in a single class. From the way you phrased your question, I assume that the particular HUD you want to create is an AO. As scripts go, it's a fairly complicated job. I've made a couple, just for the heck of it. Frankly, if you want an end product that is going to be reliable and have even a fraction of the features in a commercial AO, you're better off buying a pre-made one. If you really want to take one apart and see what makes it tick, you can get full perm copies of several classic AO scripts (Zhao, Zhao II, Franimation ... ) at http://www.free-lsl-scripts.com/cgi/freescripts.plx?Category=AO . If you know enough LSL scripting to feel confident about modifying one of them or using it as a model for one of your own, do it.
  3. Check to see whether you have a firewall blocking Second Life >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 Check also to see whether your antivirus routine is doing the same thing >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting . Norton's antivirus software is notorious for blocking SL, but others often do it too. Even if they don't block logins, they can slow down performance drastically by checking every single texture that you see.
  4. Update your viewer. That bug was repaired in the new viewer release last week, so you should have no trouble once you update.
  5. Two good possibilities come to mind. First, check your Maximum Bandwidth setting at Preferences >> Internet & Cache. If it's too high, you can often have teleport issues. Try lowering it drastically, even as far as 300 to 500 Kbps, to see if you get any improvement. If so, you probably don't want to leave it that low because you'll have more lag, so start raising it bit by bit. For optimal performance, your Maximum Bandwidth should never be set any higher than 75% to 80% of your normal download speed ( http://www.speedtest.net/ ). The other possibility is more Mac-specific, although it affects other machines as well. You computer may be having trouble making a DNS conection. So.... (1) Try shutting off your computer, unplugging the router and modem for a couple of minutes, and then plugging them back in and restarting. That simple step may clear up everything (2) Add Google's free public DNS servers to whatever your ISP assigns you as a default. Here's how >>> http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/ (3) If things are STILL messed up, contact your ISP. Maybe they are working on their Internet connections. Mine go down for about 20 minutes once a month or so while they are vacuuming dust out of their servers, or whatever they do.

  8. Why not? In order to play Flash format videos (eg YouTube videos), you must have the generic Adobe Flash plugin installed. If you use IE as your web browser and already have Flash, you will need to get the generic Flash Download to play Youtube videos inside Second Life. Do not use Internet Explorer when using that link. If Internet Explorer is the only browser you use, please ensure that you select Flash Player for Other Browsers, because the Internet Explorer version of Flashplayer is not compatible with any Second Life viewer. If you use IE as your default browser, some have found that the simplest is to download and install FireFox. Once that's done, use it to visit YouTube and start a video; this will prompt for the Flash plugin to be installed - so install it. Make sure that YouTube videos will now play in FireFox. That should be enough the get Flash working in Firestorm (and other SL viewers).
  9. Hehehe ... The OP and the scam are almost 3 months old, so it's a bit late.
  10. Your viewer and SL's servers have temporarily lost the ability to talk to each other. Unless there's a problem with the servers (Always check http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ first), it's probably something on your end. So.... (1) Try shutting off your computer, unplugging the router and modem for a couple of minutes, and then plugging them back in and restarting. That simple step may clear up everything (2) Change your DNS settings from whatever your ISP assigns you as a default. Use Google's free public DNS servers instead.
  11. Duplicate question. Asked and answered at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Linden-Dollars-L/How-do-I-pay-another-member-in-linden-dollars-from-my-paypal/qaq-p/1584187 You cannot give someone L$ from your PayPal account. You have to give the person L$ directly in world. There are MANY ways to do it. One easy way is to open an IM with the person and click the PAY icon at the top of the IM window.
  12. If you can't recall the answer to your security question, just contact Customer Support, preferably by opening a support case. You'll be asked to verify your identity and, working together, they can reset your security question.
  13. No. You can hand another person L$ in world, but PayPal has no idea who any other SL resident is and Linden Lab isn't going to tell them. Remember also that the only way you can ever buy L$ is to buy them from other residents. Linden Lab doesn't sell them to you.
  14. It all depends on how long it takes for some resident to be desperate enough to sell his L$ at your price. If you set your limit too low, you could wait forever.
  15. Sorry. I understand maybe 10% of your question. Could you try restating it again, perhaps with punctuation this time? Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  16. Go to Preferences >> Internet & Cache and reduce your Maximum Bandwidth to 75% to 80% of your measured download speed (http://speedtest.net/ ), usually no more than 1200 to 1500 Kbps. When your Maximum Bandwidth is set too high, you are using all of your available bandwidth for basic functions, so there is nothing left for streaming media or voice. Those services will start to cut out and, if you keep trying, they will possibly make you crash.
  17. It means that you'll have to wait. Always look at the Grid Status page when you have a question about a service interruption. [updated] Partial Web Service Outages [updated 8:45am PDT, 30 June 2012] We are continuing to work to restore some web services, including wiki.secondlife.com and my.secondlife.com. Please continue to monitor this blog for further information. [Posted 9:25pm PDT, 29 June 2012] We’re working to re-route or restore some of our Web services. The Second Life Wiki is the most prominent outage; however, profile retrieval and related services are also failing for some Residents. We’ll keep you posted.

    HELP PLEASE

It looks like you have a corrupted version of the viewer. You'll have three options: 1. Do a clean reinstall of the SL viewer you are using now, following the instructions here. I know, they are written for people using Firestorm, but they work for any viewer. 2. Do the process described for a clean reinstall, but reinstall the previous version (3.3.2) of your SL viewer. 3. Install a different viewer.
  19. Ummmm.... There is no such thing as http inventory, so let's start at the beginning. What's wrong with your inventory? What do you mean by "buggy"? To add useful information to your question here click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  20. To abandon your Linden Home.... 1. Remove all of your belongings by taking them back into your inventory or deleting them 2. Stand in your house. 3. Select World >> About Land >> General >> Abandon Land. Then follow Charolotte's advice about buying a Mainland parcel. You do need to pay fo buying the land itself, but your first 512 sq m. is free of land fees.
  21. That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked image. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. You can find that two or three alts on the same account will behave differently sometimes, because each one has its appearence data stored in a different folder on your computer. One of them might have been messed up while the others are just fine. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilities here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. The plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.
  22. I'm glad you are spending time with that table on the Rotations page in the wiki. As I commented to you in PM, that whole page is your primary source for basic information about rotations. I probably was remiss in not aiming you at a more specific solution to your own challenge, though. Take a look at this forum thread from last week >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Scripting/llGetLinkPrimitiveParams-vs-GetLocalRot/td-p/1580033 , in which the OP was asking how to rotate a child prim relative to another child prim. You're facing a similar challenge, and the answer is the same. You daisy chain rotations by multiplying them from right to left. Your ears will rotate back and forth relative to the root prim, so you want to calculate each local rotation by multiplying the root' rotation by whatever small rotation you want to apply to each ear. As you lay out your script, you'll want to trigger each ear wiggle by firing your SLPPF call from inside a timer event, perhaps with a random time interval.
  23. You will pay Land Fees based on the highest total land area you have owned since your last bill. So yes, if you are going to be billed after July1, it's best to wait. Otherwise, you'll pay for the tier of your new land as if you had owned it since June 1 --- even though you only got to enjoy it for a couple of days.
  24. You just posted to this Answers forum, so you know how to do that. The other forums work the same way. The Second Life blogs that you get to by clicking the Blogs tab at the top of this page are all for Linden Lab folks to write in. You can't create your own blog in SL. If you want to create your own blog outside SL, try using Google to search for "create a blog". You'll get maybe a zillion hits, so have fun sorting. Once you've found a host an created a web page for yourself, the rest is just a matter of writing and sharing with your SL friends.
  25. The Windlight sun is blurry. (So's the sun in RL if you are dumb enough to stare at it for more than a fraction of a second. :smileytongue: ) Whatever you do, don't put a big prim sun in the sky, though. In order to see it from the ground, you would have to make it very big, and in order to move it across the sky smoothly, you'd need to make it physical. That would do two things almost immediately: (1) It would drop your sim's performance like a stone, making it incredibly laggy and then (2) You'd get a visit and a big-time scolding from Linden Lab techies, who would also yank your sun out of the sky. (I once visited a scripting client on a sim that very briefly had a monster comet in its sky. They got the lag and the visit from LL.) If you haven't seen the general instructions about creating Windlight settings ( http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Environment_Editor ), take a look. The page itself was created a couple of years ago, so the viewers have all changed. Windlight settings haven't changed, though, so it's still helpful. Also, take a look at Torley's own Windlight settings at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/WindLight_Settings. In particular, look at his [TOR] SUNSET - Vacation sky, which has a reddish sky and clouds and a strikingly yellow sun. Maybe that's a good starting point for yours?
