  1. I don't know if it's much help on the 4th of July, but Concierge level Residents may call the Concierge Support Line listed on LL's Support Portal.
  2. Not yet. See Bulk Delete does not work on Unassociated Inventory if listing exists
  3. It behaves just like a double-click TP, so I suspect that the Firestorm team just tapped into that code and used their own chat trigger. It's a nice feature.... and better than my LSL version.
  4. Funny you should ask. We had exactly the same question here just last week. Take a look >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Everything-Else/are-movie-rentals-in-second-life-legal-and-if-so-how-does-one/qaq-p/1580235
  5. I made a device that sounds very much like that a year or two ago. Your camera is at the exact center of your screen. It's a fairly simple matter to write a script that will substitute your own position for the camera's. In my device and I suspect in the one you have, you simply hold down your Alt key and click the mouse on a spot you want to go to. That automatically centers the location on your screen. Then you zoom in reasonably close, so the camera's position is a few meters back from the spot, and activate the device. Zip! You're there. Incidentally, if you use the Firestorm viewer, that function is built in. You just type "tp2cam" in chat. Here's the description..... Teleport to cam position (tp2cam): Teleports the avatar to the position the cursor is currently looking at. This is useful when walking into a store. After looking around and finding the item to purchase, this shortcut takes you to the position immediately, without having to walk.
  6. I haven't seen that Message that says "please check your system clock or contact your grid admin" for almost 5 years. I wonder if it means the same thing now? Look at the system clock on your computer and check the date. Be sure that it says 2012. If it was accidentally reset, then your viewer would read the secure certificate for SL incorrectly.

Scottello wrote: [ ...] Edit: Turns out I'm paying 30$/mo For a DSL/Wireless (I'm WIRED, My parents are NOT) Connection of 41ms Ping, 280Killabytes/S download and 51 Killabytes upload speed, (5/6 Megabytes in total, Plan). I'm guessing we need an Upderp? Yes. 280 Kbps is very low. My own download speed is 4950 Kbps right now. Your Internet is crawling along. No wonder you have been having problems.
  8. Your game? You mean Second Life? The grid isn't down. I'm in world right now and it's fine. LL did rolling restarts this morning but they finished a long time ago. Have you ever been able to log in to SL with that computer before? Are you getting a specific message now? Exactly what does it say? Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT to add more information. Please do NOT start a new thread.
  9. The message can mean that the person has been banned from SL. Have you been able to communicate with him?
  10. Viewers play a minor part in voice functionality. The bulk of voice support is given by the external application called SLVoice, which is made by the SL voice provider, Vivox. Voice failures are almost always due to one of the following reasons: Your ISP is throttling or blocking the voice service; failure of the Vivox service; voice issues on the region you are on; voice being throttled by bandwidth set incorrectly - please check it by following the instructions here; voice hardware (mic, headset) not configured correctly in your operating system settings; voice hardware not configured correctly in the viewer; another application has your voice hardware in use (example, Skype); your anti virus software has “mangled” the voice application; see here. You can test voice by going to Voice Echo Canyon. If voice is working correctly for you, anything you say there will be echoed back to you. There are more troubleshooting tips for Voice at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_voice
  11. It all depends on whether you want to play the game or not. If you do, have fun. The scripted service you bought will probably send you friendly messages to let you feel in the role. If you're not interested, just walk away and do something else.
  12. Yeah, I know. I understand where it comes from. That's fine when you are in a RP. And SL has plenty of RP areas where I can see that. But SL is NOT a RP "game". If you're not in RP, your avatar is not a "character". Rolig is ME.
  13. Usually the quickest way to track down an annoying error like that is to load your script with llOwnerSay statements that will let you know what values are currently assigned to key variables. When something like that happens to me, it's often because I am not clearing some variable after I have used it, so it's using whatever was loaded in it the last time around.
  14. Take Karen's advice. Visit the page she suggested or use the bake fail tips at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_bake_fail , starting at the top and working down until you find what works for you today. Notice, however, that that Character Test option that Karen recommends is WAY at the bottom of the list. If you haven't solved the problem before you get there, or if the bake fail problem keeps coming back, you have a bigger problem. Playing with bake fail --- the symptom --- isn't going to bring you permanent relief. The problem is ----- wait for it ----- You have a crummy Internet connection. It may be fine for simple things like e-mail, web browsing and games like WoW that don't demand much out of a connection, but yours is too unstable to handle SL. We've already been through a lot of the diagnostics in your earlier threads, but take a fresh look at http://blog.nalates.net/2011/10/26/troubleshoot-your-sl-connection/ for more ideas. ETA: Your avatar is still an avatar, not your "character." :smileywink:
  15. Take a look at this advice from the Firestorm Developers >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/shadows

  17. ATI cards have had a history of not playing nice with SL. You may need to install older drivers. (See >> http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx ) Or maybe reinstall the previous version of your viewer ( https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release/3.3.2 ) or a TPV.
  18. If you are getting an error message like that, then you are not disconnecting. You are crashing. There's something wrong with either the way you have Preferences set, the installation of your viewer, or the way you are trying to move around in SL. Unfortunately, you have spread your symptoms and diagonstics over several threads, so it's hard to sort out what you have already tried and I don't have the patience to go on a long search. (The software in this Answers forum is definitely not the best, but it's very easy to post additions to your question. Just click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your own question and select EDIT.) If your avatar (not "character") dies when you are teleporting, there are several possible reasons. Take a look at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Landmarks-teleporting-and-SLurls/ta-p/700123#Section_.1a, if you haven't already. Consider two things there, in particular. Teleporting --- basically, moving your avatar's data from one sim's servers to another's --- can get screwed up if you have set your Maximum Bandwidth in Preferences >>. Internet & Cache too high. It should never be more than about 75% to 80% of your download speed. Second, some firewall and antivirus routinges will block transfers like that, so you'll want to be sure to create exceptions for Second Life in them. See >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539 and http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting . If your avatar is freezing while you are just walking around, the immediate cause is probably server lag. That happens to everyone occasionally. If you are carrying a lot of scripted attachments and HUDs, though, the servers may have a hard time holding onto you at those times of stress, so you'll crash. It's still possible, of course, that your installed viewer is borked. I'm sure you may have tried re-installing (everyone thinks of that after a while), but unless you did a Clean Re-Install, you probably didn't remove all of the SL files, including the ones that are most often damaged. Follow the instructions at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clean_reinstall . They work for any viewer.
  19. I'm not sure what a Tier 6 Developer does, but at least some of your skills will probably be applicable here. Certainly your design experience and any skills you have with external 3D modelling programs will be. Before you rush headlong into mesh modeling, I would caution you not to overlook SL's basic building tools and materials, however. Even now, as mesh (and sculpties before it) has become popular, most of the building in SL is done with basic prims, using the native tools built into your viewer. It's like building with stretchable Legos. The basic tools are surprisingly powerful and easy to manipulate, which is how this entire world could be created largely by amateurs. You can get a feel for the basics at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Build-Tools/ta-p/700039 and the embeddced links there. If you haven't discovered it yet, though, visit the Ivory Tower of Prims in world and spend an afternoon with their starter tutorials and practicing. That should be enough to get you going, although it will still take a while to discover the ways that basic prims can be stretched, cut, twisted, punctured, and otherwise manipulated.
  20. Nyll is absolutely right in her suggestions. There is a long list of cures for bake fail in that link that she pointed you toward. They work. If you keep having this problem over and over again, though, you ought to be asking "Why me?" The answer is that all of the bake fail solutions are taking care of the symptoms, but not your real problem. You have a crummy Internet connection. Bake fail occurs because your avatar appearance files are being corrupted as they move back and forth between your computer and SL's servers. Information is being lost along the way. Chances are very good that they are being lost very close to your own machine. If you're using wireless, that's one big no-no. Everything interferes with wireless, and wireless was never intended for continuous data streaming anyway. Also, your router could be losing its grip -- in need of a reboot to clear its RAM and get a fresh hold on your IP address. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to do that. There are more advanced solutions for a bad connection, but those two should go a long way toward a cure.
  21. Your report is just that .... a report. LL investigates to see if there is reason to believe that a TOS violation is involved. They have access to chat logs and IM logs that we don't, and they obviously have access to our accounts, so they can more easily figure out who's behind the avs and alts. If they decide that the evidence is slim, or that nobody violated the TOS, they may drop it. If they decide that a sanction is warranted, they'll never tell you what it was. That's between LL and the person being sanctioned. Watch this video to get a better idea of the process >>>
  22. So, when you write your script, include the textures by name in a list in your script, so that you can call them in a llDialog. That will require having a second list with the UUIDs in the same order as the name list, or perhaps creating a single strided list that alternates names and UUIDs. Then, when you choose a specific texture with the dialog, apply it with llSetTexture(llList2String(texture_uuid_list, idx), face_number); If you're not quite sure how to construct dialogs, see http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/DialogMenus
  23. Which log are you looking at? If you set the Preferences correctly, all of your IMs -- complete converstions -- should be stored on your hard drive. To find it, you will need to show hidden folders. Now you need to locate the folder in which all those logs are saved: Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR USERNAME]\Application Data\SecondLife Windows Vista: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife Windows 7: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife Mac: /Users/[YOUR USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/SecondLife linux: ~/.secondlife The last part of each of those addresses may be different, depending on which viewer you are using. If you are using Firestorm, for example, the folder will end with Firestorm instead of Second Life. Anyway, in that folder, you'll find a subfolder with your avatar's name on it. If you have alts, they will also have folders. Open that folder and you'll find a searate folder for ach person you have ever had an IM conversation with. It's all there, in great glory.
  24. Nope. It's doing fine. :smileywink: Try using a different web browser. For reasons I have never understood, SL's web sites do not like Internet Explorer, but seem to have a great time with Firefox and Chrome.
