  2. Jumpman Lane wrote: Til November 2016 I'm President of the United American Sims of Second Life. Just Caws! And here I thought you'd go for world domination... Well, he's the Prez of some USA sim, so it's basically the same ... or so they fink. Had Jumpy done his research properly he would know that it is infact me, the mighty Orca, being Queen, Empress, Absolute Ruler and fuxxing Godess of the whole grid. I once started out humble with a little parcel called "Mighty Empire of Orcalia" but now I tiered down and lay claim on the whole focking grid. As a first sign of my ultimate powers I singlehandedly decided our world to be FLAT. Just go check your worldmaps and dare prove me wrong. :smileyhappy:
  3. Do you connect via the ISP 'Dodo' (Telstra or Optus might be involved, also)? And we all know what happened to the Dodo, right? So I guess it's not an ISP you'd be in a long term relationship with. :matte-motes-evil:
  4. I really need to "make a living" here to pay for my account No, you don't. If you are really an ancient avatar you should know that SL is free to play. Nobody's forcing you to rent land and to buy new clothes and toys. Here's a little hint: go premium and pay your membership annually. It's almost free that way and your avie willl have a free 512 parcel and 300 Lindies/week to play with.
  5. @ Perrie and Rolig: Aha, yes, I totally forgot that.:matte-motes-bashful-cute: So that's why the world map on Tuesday didn't look like a fuxxing checker board.
  6. if you can get an I7 the price of an I5, the i7 is best buy, Yes it would be if you can get it at the same price. The magic word here is IF. So I challenge you again: give us a link to where you found that offer or it's not true. And btw, even if some of the sites have any dealings with some manufacturers, benchmarks don't lie. And no website ever said the i5 is better than the i7, it's just not worth the excess price when you're just gaming. And why would Intel pay any website to rank their slower processor architecture over their fast and more expensive one. That would make no sense. And you don't make any sense neither.
  7. This is in basic viewr mode catagory? Yeah, Peonald, this section is more or less dead since LL stopped making that shtoopid basic viewer. They are just too lazy and uncaring to remove this section from the forums. But now I quite like it again since it seems just the right category if you don't know if your problem is viewer or server side.
  8. I dunno why, not a technician, just a housewife. But I guess it's that terribly bloated and cumbersome new chat thingamajing of the LL viewer. Maybe it's time for you to join the dark side, we have candy for you. :matte-motes-evil: But, really, no **bleep**, check out Firestorm and Singularity, the two most widely used TPVs. You'll have a better framerate in all circumstances anyway.
  9. Kiiva, you know that yesterday and today aren't the best days to do anything in SL, right? Nevertheless they should let you log in. I didn't have any problems whatsoever. Have you checked your connection, did you conduct a speedtest, does your internet work at all, are the ports to SL open, have you tried log in to another location?
  10. How the feck would they know in what way I set up the driver for my GPU? And for the inworld settings, well I change them quite often, according to the locale or occasion.
  11. i see a nice I7, with nvidia card 780gtx in a better price than horrible and gimp I5 Okay, I challenge you: show me the link to a shop which sells a i7/GTX780 combo cheaper then a i5/GTX780. And let's not forget we're talking about laptops here, Ivan.
  12. i5 is obsolete and more slow Obsolete? Obso**bleep**inglete??? i5 are the same age and generation as i7 chips. But they are considerably cheaper, which gives you more money to spend for stuff you really need: graphic cards! Fact is: i7 is wasted money for an application like SL. If I have the choice between i7 + GT720 and i5 + GTX780 I'd always choose the second option.
  13. For me this sound more than fishy and I have a couple questions and comments: 1) are all LL customers with a credit card supposed to get that letter or only US citizens? 2) I'm living in South Africa and holding an SA ID card, but am a citiizen of the Federal Republic Germany by all means. So I can hardly be considered an American patriot let alone fall under that act. Or can I? 3) If this letter turns out to be legit and I get one too ... I guess it'll be the end of my glorious career in SL. Baibai. No sane person should ever get along wih such bullcrap. Obama, the IRS, LL and the NSA are obnoxious and repel me to no end!
  14. Your first link should run SL "fine" if you operate it on a cooling stand, which should always be the modus operandi with laptops: AMD Radeon HD 8570M The AMD Radeon HD 8570M (sometimes also called ATI Mobility Radeon HD 8570) is a DirectX 11.1 graphics card for small laptops. The core is clocked at 650 MHz and is able to overclock itself to 700 MHz with Boost. The DDR3 graphics memory is clocked at 1000 MHz. The 28nm Mars core uses the GCN architecture. Compared to the 8600M and 8700M series, the 8570M is different only in clock speed, memory bus configuration, and memory type. The performance of the Radeon HD 8570M is similar to the old Radeon HD 6570M or GeForce GT 630M. Current and demanding games like Far Cry 3 will run fluently only in low resolutions and detail settings. The 384 shaders can be used with OpenCL 1.2 for general-purpose calculations (as 6 compute units). Compared to old TeraScale 2 chips, the GCN-based Mars architecture offers improved performance in this framework. Features of the 8570M include video decoding via UVD3 for decoding MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, VC-1, MPEG-2, and Flash directly from the AMD GPU. Multi-View Codec (MVC) and MPEG-4 part 2 (DivX, xVid) HD videos are now compatible as well. The 8500M series also supports automatic graphics switching between the integrated GPU and discrete GPU. Called Enduro, the technology supersedes AMD's Dynamic Switchable Graphics and is similar to Nvidia's Optimus. Furthermore, the 8570M can directly support up to 2 connected monitors using Eyefinity Technology if Enduro is disabled. Other features of the 8500M series include ZeroCore for reducing power consumption when the display is turned off and Power Gating to power down areas of the chip that are not used. PowerTune allows automatic overclocking and underclocking of the graphics card as long as the GPU is within its TDP limit. For example, the chip may be underclocked when running FurMark and OCCT, but will overclock in certain games like Lost Planet, Crysis or Resident Evil 5. The integrated HD audio processor is able to transmit HD Audio (TrueHD or DTS Master Audio) over HDMI and DisplayPort (e.g., for Blu-Ray videos). Additionally, it now allows audio to output simultaneously and in parallel to multiple devices with the new Discrete Digital Multipoint Audio (DDMA) feature. The power consumption should be somewhat below that of the old HD 7650M. As a result, the 8570M is suited for 13-inch notebooks or larger. 2nd link revealed this: Thank you for visiting Newegg.com. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience but we are currently experiencing problems on our server. Please try again at a later time. If you have any questions, please visit our FAQs or simply contact us and our helpful staff will alleviate any concerns you may have. 3rd link: That Dell is an ultrabook! :smileysurprised: These things make nifty ladies purses but hardly usable gaming machines. Also the GPU seems worserer than the one from your 1st link. All in all I didn't check on all the other specs since graphic power is what you want and need.
  15. Hmm, I always wondered what these places are good for, really. I know when something goes awry during a TP you end up at one of those unwelcome centers and no-help islands. Then you take another LM and TP the fock outta there. I also know that some peepel actually like to hang out at these places. WTF??? Poor souls, bored and boring @$$wipes having nothing else to do than to mutually grief themselfishes. It's in fact the social underbelly of the SL population and no self-respecting avatar should spend any time at those sad sad locations.
  16. my inventory is also at 94K.. could THAT be it? because otherwise my PC runs fine.. No, your invent only has a minimal effect on your speed. Although 94k is quite huge, you fashion victim. :smileyvery-happy: And of course your PC otherwise runs fine, unfortunately though SL isn't like any other application. Basically system freezes are caused by either bad connectivity or bad graphics. The graphics problem can be sorted quite easily by adding a good gpu to your system. Nvidia GTX series comes highly recommended for SL. But that upgrade of the GPU might an upgrade of the power brick (PSU) and maybe the mother board necessary as well. It will cost you money. Or are you on a laptop? Too bad, you're basically mucked. :smileysurprised: Connectivity is a more complex problem. Conduct a speedtest and find out if your ISP delivers what they promise. Do one local test and one to Dallas, TX and copy/paste the results to this thread. If the result is far below what your contract says complain! And don't let them give you stories. Oh, and for fux sake, plug your computer into the router! Don't do wireless. And always make sure you're the only one in your household using the connection when you're in SL.
  17. Hi Miashy, welcome to the forums. What you describe sounds like a connectivity problem. Please conduct a speedtest (local and to Dallas) and see if your ISP maybe throttles or otherwise manages your account. Anyway, if the result doesn't tell you anything please copy/paste it to this thread. That it happens after 8 PM is a sign that maybe your local exchange is congested since everybody in your area is using the internet. Complain with your ISP and ask them to sort it out. In case of congestion a simple change, restart or redesign of the port won't help. If that's all the callcenter ppl can do escalate your case and ask for a manager. Shutting down useless antivirus software was a good reaction tho.
  18. Yes, exactly, so the best way to do it is this: Set land up for sale and give it time until the next billing period. Lower the price from day to day and try to be a bit cheaper than the competition. Then on the last day you simply abandon if not sold by then.
  19. Ok, I'll try to be less sarcastic. I don't even know how to define it exactly other than ppl in some countries don't like it for it's too witty or something.:matte-motes-nerdy: Anyhoo, on with your lappy and your problem: - Have you ever considered running Linux? It should make your machine considerably more snappy, secure and save. Also most (Debian-based) distros have slightly older Nvidia drivers in their repositories, which could be a good thing. And you'll hopefully won't receive timed-out messages anymore. And no, that wasn't meant to be funny/sarcastic but I'm 100% serious here. Linux Mint, Ubuntu, O4OS or similar distros are very beginner friendly and as an old Win/Apple user you should feel at home quite soon. In the begining just run it in dual boot, so you can always log in with your Windoze and check Linux forums if you have problems and trouble. I did it myself for half a year until I noticed I hardly used Win anymore. So I kicked it off my system and never looked back. - Considering SL's high demands on your system, do yourself a favour and get a cooling stand. One with fans! Even if you don't have the money to buy one now (c'mon it's only 20 $ or so), please place Alien on a cool surface: put it on a leftover kitchen/bathroom tile. Make sure you have ample air draft around the exhaust holes and never use it directly on wooden surfaces, duvets, blankets, cuddle pillows or your lap. NEVER! I never cared about this and now my good Asus lappy is a brick.:smileyembarrassed: The repair lady just needed a brief peek inside, shook her head and looked at me in disbelief: "Geez, girl, this is a laptop, not a fish. It's not supposed to be smoked." 1100 € down the drain.:smileysad: - Considering the age of your Alien I guess it's quite dusty by now, so take off the lower cover and give it a good cleaning. Compressed air works wonders, although I prefer a vacuum. Pros and cons for each practice, just make sure to not spin the fans too fast. Do that every 6 months (3 if you're a smoker!). - And of course the usual stuff: check internet connection, always plug into the router, never use wifi, upgrade your RAM to 8MB, check your driver settings and graphics settings in SL. Max DD 128 (64 when shopping or clubbing), medium/high, no shadows or advanced lighting models. With the right settings and a bit of TLC your Alien should be good for years of pleasure.
  20. as far as I know I've got the most recent drivers. Huh? Do you or don't you? That's kinda important to now when we talk about graphics. And it's no rocket science to keep up to date. Just visit Nvidia's website and look for your specific GPU, then download and install the driver. And while you're there let them add you to their mailing list. That way you always get an email once a new driver is out. So you got a kinda expensive Alienware lappy as a gift? Even without knowing what kinda gpu you got, common knowledge should've told you that brick must be quite old. And it actually is! Series 3 laptop gpu, and a 35 model is rather low in the Nvidia line up anyway. Please copypaste your system specs into this thread, so we can maybe come up with some helpful hints. Here's what the experts at notebookcheck have to say: NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M The Nvidia GeForce GT 335M (sometimes also called GeForce G335M) is a laptop graphics card for middle class gaming notebooks. It is based on the GT215 core (as the GTS 350M for example) but features only 72 shader cores and 24 Texture Mapping Units. Therefore, the GT 335M offers significantly more shaders than the GT 330M, but due to the low clock speed, the performance is not that much better. Compared to the GTS models, the GT 335M does not support GDDR5. The 3D performance of the GT335M is on a level with the Mobility Radeon HD 5650 in the middle class. Therefore, the GPU is fast enough for all games in 2010. Demanding games like Metro 2033, Battlefield BC2 or Crysis run only in low-medium details fluently. Less demanding games like Call of Duty MW2 or Sims 3 can be played in high detail settings (see Benchmarks below). As the other GeForce 300M cards, the GT335M offers Purevideo HD (VP4) to accelerate the decoding of HD videos. This means that the GPU offers the complete decoding of MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 ASP, VC-1/WMV9 and H.264 videos. Furthermore, CUDA, OpenCL, and DirectX Compute allow the usage of the cores for general computing (e.g., encoding of videos).
  21. First question to ask: have you checked if the parcel you are on is script enabled?
  22. Orca is my oldest and most used account. 1.18.2007. Oh my, I'm turning 7 next week, time to wear my big girl pants. I have 4 more accounts, 3 girls and 1 boy which I mucked up so badly I made him a permanent tiny bunneh now. The girls are all total freeloaders, super fugly n00bs and prettty much useless anyway. I handed each of 'em 10l so they could do a selfie for their profiles, but that's it.
  23. Will, this all sounds very nice but is kinda impossible in SL. SL land can only be owned by one person or a group (which also has an owner). So all attempts to form a democratic gov'ment are moot. I don't know **bleep** about OSG but I guess a project like yours is better hosted there.
  24. Hiro, the internet isn't a static thing, it changes all the time. Particularly at this time of the year, when everybody stays at home instead of going to the beach we often encounter congested exchanges and due to the high humidity we experience failing wires and other undesirable stuff. And all the while LL is asking for better and better hardware and connections on the client side as well. Still, call your ISP and ask them to redesign your port and if possible set you to a higher speed. And ask them straight away if your local exchange is congested ... and demannd a straight answer. If that inept lady in the callcenter can't or won't help you ask for a manager. But you'll see, come February and granny doesn't try to download the whole internet 24/7 anymore, speeds should improve anyway.
  25. Maybe if you could describe what that sim was about, some special buildings, a club, a shop, a marina, an airport, cool terraforming, landscaping or any landmarks that stand out it might ring a bell with some of us.
