  1. So, a sim on Corsica's NW side has now access to Blake Sea in SE Nautilus? Yaya, if you wanna sail for like 2 hours to get to the Blake, then yes. LMfAO
  2. Und wæhrend du drauf wartest, dass LL alles huebsch repariert, beschæftige dich doch mal mit deutscher Grammatik und Syntax. Dann wuerde man vllt auch verstehen was du uns sagen wolltest. :smileyvery-happy:
  3. NVIDIA GeForce GTS 360M Easy solution: just turn Shadows off.
  4. System Model HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC Pavilion is HP's cheapo line. Hands off if you wanna use it for SL seriously. Processor Intel® Pentium® CPU B940 @ 2.00GHz, 2000 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s) Not great, but should be sufficient. CPU isn't that important in SL anyway. Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB Total Physical Memory 2.70 GB Available Physical Memory 1.17 GB Total Virtual Memory 5.40 GB Available Virtual Memory 3.50 GB Huh? you have 4 MB RAM installed but your lappy takes most of it away ... for graphics rendering obviously. There is no dedicated GPU in your lappy, it's an office warrior, not a gaming or even multimedia machine. Toss that typewriter and get something (much) better.
  5. Always opt for non-free drivers! Always! AMD is famous for crappy drivers, that's why most Xers are using Nvidia exclusively. Forget that Fedora/Red Hat crap and go for a decent distro. I highly recomend Manjaro. It features a particulary nice hardware management. Graphic drivers shouldn't be a problem to even spend any thoughts about.

  7. Tarina Sewell wrote: Graphics Card: GeForce GT 630 Draw distance: 416 LOD factor: 14 Ya, there's your problem, as already mentioned by others. The solution presents itself: - upgrade your not-too-well GPU to a GTX. Try to locate a GTX 660, as the 60 series is always Nvidia's best bang for buck - turn DD down to 96 for clubbing/shopping, 128 for daily life, 256 for exploring - set LOD to 2, max 4 You may crank it all up for photos. I sometimes set my DD to 1024 and have to live with 3 - 5 fps for the little while.
  8. Hi Godesa, the decision to toss Microsoft crappola is always a good one, period. I wouldn't necessarily go with any *buntu stuff tho. There are much nicer distros out there, Mint and Manjaro for example. Mint with Cinnamon DE is like a *buntu deluxe while Manajro is based on the super geeky Arch system but made more user friendly. So you get the best of both worlds, a rolling release (no need to ever install again) and yet a somehow manageable system. The best thing about Manjaro is it uses the AUR (Arch User Repository) which is the biggest and best and most cuttting edge. Also, as cherry on top, Singularity viewer is in the AUR. I decided on Singularity Alpha builds so I receive a new viewer every 3 - 4 days automagically and install it with just 1 click. Really computing heaven. Also I set my version up to have a very very bleeding edge kernel. Oh, and Manjaro features much newer Nvidia drivers than you'll ever get on Debian based distros like all the *buntus. Your question about what version is best, you obviously mean the desktop environment, yes? Well, that depends on personal taste, geekyness and what your hardware can take. Many ppl love KDE (Kubuntu in the *buntu world), I am more for a simpler desktop without all the trickery. I don't need wobbly windows and fancy 3D effects. So I'm torn between Cinnamon (kinda mix of Win7 and MacOS), which I recommend for Mint, and Mate (welcome back, Gnome2) which I use on Manjar right now. XFCE (Xubuntu) is nice as well on older machines. Ubuntu's Unity DE is a no-go for me, sorry. If I want spyware and my searches bringing me to Amazon automagically I would've stuck with Windows. I didn't really look into other DE's yet. E17 and OpenBox are way over my pretty head.
  9. Watch this video: It's about what to do with a brand new lappy but most of his tips and tricks apply for desktop as well.

Yes, I did clean it regularly. Yes, I used a fancy cooling stand with fan 'n stuff. No, it didn't survive in SL for longer than a year.
  16. Sorry to break it to you the hard way: your old avatar is not you! Or your new avatar is not you. For LL every avatar is an account. They don't really know who is operating the avatar, other than by seeing the IP address and Payment Info. Other than that both your avies are single entities. But no panic, there is a rather simple way to solve your problem: just log in with your old avatar and send all the stuff from her inventory to your new avie. That works of course only with transferable items, as logic dictates. Obviously most copiable stuff can't be transferred, else all the builders and designers in SL would be bankrupt by now. For that reason I would never suggest for any serious SL resident to delete old accounts and create new ones. Nobody can possible fock up so badly they can't show their face anymore. I'm Orca Flotta since January 2007, went through a lot of sheet, messed up many relationships and friendships, have prolly more enemies than friends but never saw a reason to take the old Orca out of the game. That's like SLuicide, no solution, no way. That's not saying you can't or shouldn't have any alts; I myself have 4, 3 more girls and one tiny male rabbit. But I won't let any of them take over and become my main account. No never!

Back in the day there wasn't much to chose from for the professional. And the IBM ppl were too arrgogant for his taste so he went with Apple. Well, nowadays it's easy to integrate all the stuff yourself so you just buy any computer system you want.
  18. Storm Clarence wrote: Theresa Tennyson wrote: MacOS has a significant weakness - Windows and Linux machines can update their video drivers separately but Macs have them written into the OS. Not really. They are written in the kernel. And so are linux drivers (LKM's.) ETA And I have no idea how windows implements. Not entirely true. I am on Linux and use non-free Nvidia driver for my gpu. Of course I guess there's also some implemented graphics drivers in the kernel but those are low level 2D drivers for office stuffz. And then, if you are totally hardcore and politically correct, you can use the open source alternate Nouveau drivers but they won't stack up to the original Nvidia ones. As for windows: download the driver, install it and be done with. Similar to Linux, really. And almost as easy.
  19. SL is an open end creative platform. Sounds boring, right? But isn't that how they used to describe it themselves?
  20. Wooja wrote: If I was Ebbe I would immediately discontinue support for minority platforms. The cost-benefit equation makes it less than worthwhile when already limited resources could be better allocated to improving the principal (less than satisfactory) Windows implementation. Wooja . . . killLinuxviewerstooyes Yeah, Wooja, let LL dabble in Windows stuff. They are doing a bad enough job with their viewers as it is already. But there's the fatal tendency, particularly true for US based users, to use Mac stuff, so they can't totally ignore those. As for Linux, no panic, the Linux community can take care of viewers themselves. At least I have never seen any resident on Linux using the LL viewer. Ugh, thinking about it, why doesn't LL stop viewer development at all? Theres were hardly able to stick up to the TPVs in 2007 already, and with the miscarriage of V2 and later they didn't show anything but being out of touch with the user base.
  21. Considering the market share Apple themselves have given up on desktop computing. They actively decided to become a supplier of gadgets rather than a producer of IT equipment. It shows. On the desktop there will soon be more Linux users than MacOS. For every iPad or iPhone a iMac or iBook loses its wings. :smileyindifferent:
