  1. Here are the 3 most common causes for the bake fail: 1) Connection: do a speedtest and see if you get the promised down- and upload speeds. If not, complain with your ISP don't use wireless! Always plug in! In other words, SL doesn't demand the most speedy connection but a stable one. High amounts of packet loss and ping spikes are deadly. 2) Hardware is your GPU powerful enough to render SL in a satisfying way (resolution, lighting, framerate)? did you adjust the settings for the best overall result? More specific you can't expect a perfect performance on netbooks, tablets, smartphones, 300$ laptops, macbooks or similar riffraff. You need a dedicated graphics card to handle the load. 3) Attitude don't run any other tasks on your computer/connection while being connected to SL. No downloads, torrrents, streams, games, surfing do maintain your computer regularly. On Windows clean the registry daily and defrag your HD monthly. Or use Linux and be happy ever after don't use any anti-virus crappola. At least not in real time mode. The best anti-vir software sits between your ears!
  2. All the while your friend most probably has a keyboard connected to his computer ... always.
  3. I hate Orca's World's Uh, Orca's world's what? If you meant Orca's Worlds (plural) then what is that, please? Just hitting us with a non-existing term isn't an argument, Ivan. I never made or own a world. But I would also never move to a Linden Home area. They are too restricted, mostly dead and only used as dressing rooms. Soooo boring.
  4. Move out of the n00b ghetto and get a parcel on the real grid.
  6. As a sailor and biker, who often does insanely long trips I find sim crossings have improved drastically over the last couple years. What was a sure death in 2009 is nothing but a little hump in the road nowadays. Still one has to be careful to not cross borders in corners and also always always always take your hands off the keyboard during a crossing.
  7. Have you checked your Recent Items folder, Miu? What's the exact wording of the error message? Your money isn't lost necessarily. Just check your account history and contact the merchant. If they are cool people they willl reimburse you and maybe conduct a test of their vendors. I'm all against anti-virus software but they hardly ever cause problems in SL. If it's anything to do with your connection it's much rather your firewall blocking delivery from SL. Also usual Terms and Conditions do apply ... as always: don't use wireless, stick around the vendor until item is delivered and don't TP away immediately after payment. And never, never ever, go on with your shopping spree before your current problem isn't solved.
  8. These are the exact opposite of the traits that Chiat\Day's copywriters encouraged Mac users to think of themselves as having. Yeah, clever marketing and promotion. Steering people into thinking they get a product with some quirky attributes is what's behind Appple's success story. Make people feel special, give them a fuzzy, warm feeling everytime they look at the MacBook or iPad. Combine the uncombinable. Make an super easy too use, average product and claim it's a geek thing. Sell a lifestyle. That is genius!
  9. You can try Singularity viewer, which is on the old V1.23 gui but has all the lastest shinies enabled nevertheless. Best of both worlds, really. But even Singularity most probably won't run on a computer from 2005.
  10. Please don't insult me and tell me I do not make sense. It's not an insult to tell you that your webbrowser has nothing to do with SL viewers. So that info was indeed free of any sense. What would really be helpful would be to give more exact system stats in your opening post. Like processor architecture, operating system, gpu and stufff like that. Then ppl would be able to give you better advice.
  11. Will there ever come a day when Mac is mentioned without someone saying what a rip off, etc. it is? :-) Sure. It will be the day they stop being a rip-off. :smileyvery-happy:
  12. Ya, let's not politicise and start religious wars over some simple office machines but there is something that bugs me to no end with Apple: the users! When I got my first (and only) Apple product, an iMac, I felt like a rebel. Yeah! That thing was so round and cuddly and semitransparent and sexy. I felt so superior over all the PC types with their boring beige boxes they shamefully tucked away under their desks. LOL, it was ridiculous. Later it dawned on me, that the OS wasn't neither very elegant nor practical and that my sweet machine was more of a fashion statement than a useful office worker. I was kinda relieved when the iMac, after 20 shortlived repairs, finally bit the dust and we could bin it for good. By that time the Apple was mostly just standing around anyway, collecting dust, while hubby and me had both progressed to Windows laptops. And, well, during the last couple years Apple lost all apppeal as the rebel underground computer for professionals and geeks and turned exactly the opposite direction. So these days, much more clever than 10 years ago, I'm a real rebel on a custom made super fugly desktop PC, running Linux. and laughing at all the clueless consumers and their consumer grade **bleep**ty hard- and software.
  13. Sony Corporation Verses Universal Studios. Mind your latin, Perrie. That would be versus.
  14. For 22.95 you get 5,000 Lindens and for 22.95 you can get 50,000 credits What are credits? Whatever currency that is, it's not used in SL.
  15. for some reason the camera shot is squashed in this photo! No, not for some reason, but for a very specific reason. The reason is the ratio of your original photo. When you take a snapshot in SL it usually captures the whole SL window, so like 1920x1030 or somewhere around that size, depending on your camera settings. I do most my shots in double resolution, so I have 4 times the screen size. Anyway, the ratio is usually 16:9. When you're putting that on a 4:3 prim you'll of course end up with a squashed photo. Always take the size of the original source material into account when putting the texture on a prim.
  16. I don't read cellphone babble very well, sorry.
  17. I need urgant help. No, you need urgent help. 30$ worth of Lindons I hope it was Lindens. trust Lindon Labs Okay, but never ever trust Linden Lab, the orginal SL hosting company for they are incapable of doing anything correctly. Sorry for being a nitpicking pita but my skin crawled when I read the post. And I'm German and not even supposed to have better grammar than you guys.
  18. I called the asus router people Why? As long as the router works (and it does, else we wouldn't have this convo) logic dictates there is nothing they can do. as soon as I got rid of the FIRESTORM BRIDGE. My face suddenly showed up. Get rid of the Bridge. Its the bridge to hell.. You would think that One of you guys out there would have known this...... Maybe we didn't think about it since the bridge was never ever causing any probs of any sort for any of us? And, oh, btw since I'm always on the latest Singularity Alpha viewers for Linux they delete the FS bridge automagically. Never had to bother with that stuff. Anyway, your hardware is seriously underpowered, no matter if 530 or 720 GPU. It's doctoring around on some symptoms instead of a real fix. Is like having a bad headache and taking some aspirin ... instead of surgically removing the axe from your skull. :matte-motes-nerdy:
  19. That GPU is not very nice, shouldn't give you any advantage over the steenkin Intel onboard krap: AMD Radeon HD 8610G The AMD Radeon HD 8610G is a processor graphics card in some of the low voltage AMD Richland APUs (A10-5745M). It offers the full amount of 384 shader cores (VLIW4 architecture) and clocks at 533 - 626 MHz. The 8610G has no dedicated graphics memory, but shares the main memory with the CPU cores. The integrated video decoder (UVD3) allows the full decoding of Multi-View Codec (MVC), MPEG-4 Part 2 (DivX, xVid), MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and Adobe Flash HD videos. According to the clock rates, the performance should be similar to the Radeon HD 7660G or the Intel HD Graphics 4600. Thus, the Radeon HD 8610G is as fast as a dedicated HD 6650M or NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M. Without fast dual-channel memory the performance drops dramatically, however. The shaders of the chip can also be used for general computing. The APU is manufactured in 32nm and rated at a TDP of 25 watts. This allows the chip to be used in notebooks from 12 to 13 inches or bigger.
  20. Not a very nice gpu in the one you posted: NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M The NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M is an entry-level, DirectX 11 compatible graphics card that has been announced in spring 2013. Its core is based on the 28nm GF117 chip (Fermi architecture) with 64-bit DDR3 memory. Compared to the 710M, the GT 720M is clocked slightly higher. Architecture The GF117 is based on the optimized GF108 Fermi chip (GeForce GT 540M) and offers 96 shaders, 16 TMUs and 4 ROPs. Each shader core is clocked twice as fast as the rest of the graphics chip, a technique known as hot clocking. More detailed information on Fermi can be found on the GT 435M GPU page. It should be noted that the GF117 does not offer dedicated graphic ports and can therefore only be used in conjunction with Optimus. The GT 720M supports GPU Boost 2.0, which can automatically overclock the card if the laptop cooling system allows it. This feature is available on any notebook with a graphics card of the 700M series. Performance Depending on the clock rates, the 3D performance of the GeForce GT 720M is somewhat above the old GT 620M, but clearly below the GT 630M in most cases. This is due to the 64 bit memory interface, which limits the performance noticeably. In comparison to the competition, the 720M offers a performance similar to the HD Graphics 4400/4600 or Radeon HD 8570M. Overall, the card is placed in the lower performance segment. Current games (as of 2013) will run fluently only in low settings. Features The shader cores (also called CUDA cores) can be used for general calculations with APIs such as CUDA, DirectCompute 2.1 and OpenCL. PhysX is theoretically possible, but the GT 720M is too slow to handle both PhysX and 3D rendering in modern games. 3D Vision is not supported according to Nvidia. Power consumption The power consumption of the Geforce GT 720M should be relativly high (approximately 25 W), according to the high clock rates. As a result, the GPU is best suited for notebooks 14-15 inches in size or greater.
  21. I jumped from a 530 Graphics card to a 720 Aaaaaargs! :smileymad: Generation 7 is very good, series 20 otoh is the lowest of the dirty underbelly.:smileysad:
  22. Iturn everything off inmy norton and the problem is still there. Doesn't matter. Kick your Norton in the bin, that crappola was always famous for creating more trouble than being helpful.
  23. Connecticut Is that an acronym for Connection Cut?
  24. Graphics Card:Intel HD Graphics 3000 Uh oh! :smileysurprised: LL have never supported Intel's onboard krap and they never will. Look at Acer, they have some capable laPtops in the 500 area. But it'll not be very satisfactory neither. In fact it'll be hard to come up with a good SL-able 500 dektop and lappies are far more expensive in general. My advice would be to save some more and look for a laptop at least in the 800 pricerange. Toshi and MSI have some in that neighborhood. That's cool for very leisurely playing when you're on tour/vacation, for constant everyday use you gotta look at least in the 1000+ pricerange.
  25. we can take ova the grid You can have my grid when you can pry it loose from my cold, dead hands
