  1. The big downside to me is it is entirely inside of facebook. Old 'Cory LInden' is now a facebook employee so this things tied to facebook for good inseperably. Yuck. Facebook is so creepy. I don't want to be datamined, spied on, monitored, tracked and so on so I'm never gonna be logging into Cloud Party! As soon as I saw Cloud Party, I started liking SL way more purely because it is not inside facebook. Sort of renewed my love for SL in a way :cathappy:
  2. Something new which I have to add a nice thing about marketplace. Genuinely nice thing! Not like my last comments which were a little bit.... not so nice :catembarrassed: I am very happy that marketplace is not embedded inside facebook and only available inside facebook. Never thought of that before but this is suddenly relevent and HUGE upside I see to Second Life in general, including marketplace. Some of you might know what I'm talking about.... You don't have to login to facebook to get here or to get to marketplace. That is awesome! What a great thing we have here. All the freedom we enjoy to not be spied on, tracked & forced to endure all sorts of other creepiness.
  3. Apparently not doing very well judging from the slow unstoppable bleed off of concurrency, the failure to adapt their business model when revenue streams are shown to be composed entirely of unsustainable nonrenewables. The teeming infestations of bugs that are never exterminated because those jobs are too hard. Also a failure judging from the predictable slow motion trainwrecks which typically result: that complete bungling of major projects that take way too long to 'complete', consume way too much company resources & still go horribly horribly wrong in the end & are left crippled, half-implemented never finished or abandoned. Agree with the other comment. Nothing about customers on there. That was error one :catmad:
  4. The part which pays Linden Lab commission always works flawlessly. Before the big transition, when it was the independently operated 'SL Exchange' it had fun uncensored forum, nice sales tracking charts & worthwhile advertising system. Can't think of anything else nice to say about it :catfrustrated:
  5. Agree Lydia, kudos to Lindens if and thats a big if this lasts longer than a day. Let's keep fingers crossed & hope for the best. Performance was quite good I was able to actually get some work done. Rolled out a little scripting update smoothly and rezzing stuff was also no problem. Teleporting was smooth which is new. My sims got more busy too with people coming and going so I can only assume SL running better for everybody. At one point one side of my avie's face disappeared except for the eyeball & tongue popping out which was more than a little freakish but this madness restored easily with a rebake :catvery-happy: Might be time for Lindens to take a little break. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
  6. the nonsense word 'lolo' was banned for a time by Linden Lab, more restricted than just 'adult' - a completely blacklisted term. i had the misfortune to find this out as I chose 'lolo' for my SL brand name. Took me some time to figure out why my sales had ground to a complete halt :catmad: yes Linden Lab has a very strange logic indeed -- or should i say lack thereof :catindifferent:
  7. I saw something yesterday about similar issue in the forum. It linked to JIRA reports about inventory corruption. Can't find the link to it now.... Scary stuff considering all marketplace data is also corrupting day by day for months now its getting worse & Lindens don't have eyes on a fix yet to stop the spread. I wonder if there is a link between the two issues. Definitely something about the way Lindens do data storage now is very wrong. Probably tried to cut one too many corners cost wise & now paying for this mistake dearly. It sure seems like all of SL is being scrambled now very slowly.
  8. me too... luckily i never got sucked into the (anti)social natworking junk. never saw the attraction really. supply free content & expose all my personal info to some company so they can datamine me & profit off selling me out... um no thank you :catindifferent: my weakness was news mostly. trying to untangle what's really happening in Syria, how is Mr. Poppo recovering from the 'zombie attack', how is Egypt's revolution working out, etc, etc... it just goes on and on all sorts of endless interesting bits of information & stories from all over the world to get lost in. all instantly accessible happening in realtime. eek :catsurprised: Very pleased with my solution to information overload :cathappy:
  9. I know I did... I like certain sites but then found I was spending way too much time on them accidentally... nearly everyday :catindifferent: I found this neat free addon called "Leechblock" which time limits how much time you spend on sites. Leechblock is for Firefox users, but if you want this kind of thing there is similar tools for all browsers. It's working great for me. Lots more time to do other stuff I meant to do but never got around to. You can enter all the sites you don't want to spend huge amounts of time on & set the time you'd like to spend per day. Really cool I think if you are like me & lose track of time... or just can't restrain yourself on the net sometimes :catvery-happy:
  10. @OP: To participate in this thread I need to know first: >>What is "real"? How do you define "real"? -Morpheus >>
  11. Medhue Simoni wrote: LL is like a guy who can't feel pain, but he shot themself in the foot and now is trying to figure out why he can't walk. LOL perfect succinct summary. i think they also took a self-inflicted headshot to lobotomy part of brain. now they stumblin' around totally clueless. LL used to be good but become worst business partner ever :catindifferent: 'tis unfortunate indeed :catsad:
  12. I know eh! I've had so much login problems with all SL properties (both this website & the viewer) lately. Can't login, logged out constantly. I was really starting to wonder if Lindens banned me or they were like messing me up for jokes :catsad: I see now others having these same problems though. Guess it is just more of the same steadily degrading performance it keeps getting worse :catfrustrated:
  13. Perrie Juran wrote: There are venture capitalists who have invested in SL, but these venture capitalists are no dummies and I'd guess they maintain very tight control of Linden Lab's purse strings. Exactly, and that is where things can start to go wrong. The VCs control the future of SL. Seeing what happened to the lab (IMHO) made me decide as I grow my own company I will do so without help of any such sponsors -- as tempting as it may be to accept them. You involve VCs & you cede them too much power over your product & the direction of your company. They call all the shots, deciding what lives & what dies. In the most major decisions, Linden Lab has no say.
  14. Rival Destiny wrote: 'sociopath'? hmmmm wonders if LL also has a supply of serial killers and a bevy of mp's? Heh -- just for clarity I'm not saying they are sociopaths. Just according to some studies they say sociopaths are often found at the top of corporations because normal human traits such as compassion, honesty & ethics can get in the way of succeeding in today's cruel predatory hyperaggressive business world. So cutthroats win. They say sociopaths also excel in war zones & get promoted to be generals & such. I could see such studies being true. I hope LL harbors no real nasty executive types floating around near the top. Rodvik at least seems not the type -- quite the opposite -- which is a relief.
  15. Here's why a 'run into the ground' can happen intentionally: Executives make big money dismantling companies. Eject themselves with huge personal payouts. Sure it hurts employees & clients but happens all the time. Rip it apart & sell off the pieces. Called corporate winddown strategy & common in VC world. Heartless sure but to a sociopath thinking strictly of quick max profits from something you view as worthless it makes sense. Sometimes it is actually the best move if the product is not sustainable & in slow unstoppable decline. Beats hitting the wall at 100 mph, owing a bunch of money, liabilities & suddenly can't fill payroll. Wind it down slow, purposefully run things poorly to ensure anyone with significant financial investment leaves first. Then closure goes smooth & no debts at the end of the line. It's basically up to the VCs. If they become disappointed a lot of pressure quickly builds up to fulfill the above scenario.
  16. Unfortunately this idea would open up security hole where avatar inventory would become easily hackable -- accessible to third parties in undesirable ways. Simple protection as Linden Lab does now is have no scripts connect to inventory. It would be possible to accomplish something like this using proper industry-grade security but I do not trust Linden Lab would be capable to develop it -- nor would they desire to outlay the cash to real security professionals who could manage it.
  17. Perception is everything. So if common perception is Linden Lab does not care about us anymore that is the reality. If they are wise, they would work hard to change this impression. Put some huge energy into showing they do care. Customer service (such as Dakota) they are nice, but impression of company higher-ups is they either despise us, see us as a resource to exploit, or simply don't care about us. Thus perception of Linden Lab as a company is very poor & that essentially is management's fault. They have an image problem they need to work on -- big time.
  18. I agree Deltango, but who would buy it? It would be like buying the original Apollo command center, when agile startups like Virgin Galactic exist today. It is so much cheaper & easier to just start over with modern technology. SL is a relic. The only buyer I could imagine is some sort of virtual world philanthropist. A wealthy benefactor who just wants to keep Second Life open as a museum of some sort, not really for profit purposes but for their own entertainment. You could say that a potential buyer company would essentially be buying us - the userbase, but once again that is no serious asset. Any company with half a brain for throwing good promotions together could attract 60,000 users in one day.
  19. it's to do with profits. they wanted SL to be a huge thing like facebook & twitter... but it didn't take off. so they immediately gave up. now they are working on making new products instead and leave SL to die. although SL seems successful from an individual standpoint, i can assure you by a corporate standpoint it is disappoint.
  20. Yep, I've had this on cell phone texts before but never in SL. Lindens always keeping it interesting with new bugs everyday :catvery-happy:
  21. Pussycat Catnap wrote: Perrie Juran wrote: What I am really looking forward to is the release of "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter." I do hope they've done a good job on this. </threadjack> One of the rae times when I've heard people laugh in derision at a preview in the theater. I am so -not- interested in seeing that movie see the light of day. It'd be like making a movie Jesus: the ninja, who fights Samurai Orcs when not preaching. Wrong on so many levels... 'Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter' sounds lame.... but 'Jesus: the ninja, who fights Samurai Orcs when not preaching'? Now that is a movie I could get into :catlol: sounds amazing!
  22. /me circles briefly overhead but seeing nothing dead or dying flies away
  23. Never heard 'porntopia'... but SL is commonly known (within the tiny demographic of people who have heard of it) as Sadville. Second Life has 8170 references on google as 'Sadville' :catsad:
  24. i think the name 'Pile of Bugs' suits it well. kinda catchy too... :catlol:
  25. Qwalyphi Korpov wrote: Lindens rely on Residents to provide support in the Answers & Forums. Those Residents say they need some dialog with Support because there are issues they should go over together. Lindens are too busy? Someone might cause a problem? idk. The gods don't 'dialog' with residents! If they speak you must simply be amazed & praise them, not try to converse with them. What were you thinking? Now get back to your cargo cult and hope the heavens reveal another sign.
