I was stunned to see LL not make mesh a consistent part of the SL experience like they did with introduction of sculpty. So incredibly stupid the situation still continues to this day. As if the tiny niche market of SL needs to be further fractured & splintered. The day I can not login with a non-mesh viewer & mesh is properly visible right away by default settings of viewer I would take SL seriously again.... if, and this is a big IF, if they also stop concurrency from declining by a thousand people every few weeks. Realistically? I don't see either of these things happening. --||-
  2. Big surprise Linden stuff isn't working. I think it is just not worth the hassle. It's only because of their dumb lazy implementation it all relies on us doing all their work which could be automated. If Lindens want to turn off magic box to delete my shop because I don't have time to transition again so be it. Their loss really. If I have time to transition I will do it but this is whatever whatever stuff to me. I'm just happy I've found much better alternatives for my 3D design & coding labors where I'm in control teamed up with sensible people & my work gets seen by more than 55000* people. I don't really care anymore if I lose this minor revenue stream due to Linden's bungling. *New low for SL today. Only 55000 concurrency. Watch how fast they lose the next thousand people. Lindens don't care to bring people in the door anymore because they are too busy working on other projects like text adventures on mobile. Woohoo ...lame :catindifferent: I wonder how many more months SL will last.
  3. Yup. If the 'error' was vice versa where Linden Lab was paying us twice, not taking their commission, or something like that? They would have proactively investigated & corrected the issue in less than two weeks. I know this from personal experience. If you ever have an error in your favor Linden Lab is a prompt, ruthless & efficient collector. It's obvious they watch every L$ quite closely & have the ability to take action rapidly. They simply have their own priorities what is important and what is not important to them. One word in that regard: karma. It is very obvious what's going on here. I find their behavior utterly repugnant. Notice SL loses 1000 residents a month now? They are now at only 55000 per day. I wonder why :catindifferent:
  4. Spica Inventor wrote: L.L. makes a lot of money on copyright infringement... Bingo! That is the crux of the problem here. LL's odd behavior in respect to copyrights makes sense when you realise a revenue stream is being protected.
  5. Linden Lab should have a human (or two) in the loop & create a item approval process, like Apple has for apps. No more instant anything goes to market. A bit of a bottleneck to be sure but its not like there is any shortage of items for sale anyway so maybe its time to clamp down a little? Quality Control. I think that Linden Lab having an employee (or more likely a small dedicated team) looking at each creation pre-release & deciding if it is acceptable (examining & rejecting likely copyright infringements, extremely low quality items, items with broken scripts that don't work, etc etc) is the only solution to clean up Second Life. A professional solution I know. One that runs counter to their philosophy & goals... thus will never be implemented. :catsad: I'm one of the very few who would like to see standards raised much higher here. It's an unpopular opinion. Carry on.
  6. what i really really don't like about it is if there is ever 'a bank error in your favor' so to speak where linden lab accidentally give you too much L$? then you see the other side of the coin. they quickly investigate & rebalance the error without being asked to. in such case they suddenly become very proactive. so lol don't think you won anything or can keep it if that happens :catsurprised: i was demanded to repay (it was not USD, just L$... worthless to linden Lab right?) on very short notice the full amount of their transaction errors. failure to do so would have been my avatar deleted. linden lab was incredibly rude & aggressive about recouping the loss from their mistake. quite distasteful experience to be sure seeing the contrast of behavior.
  7. July was up a little for me too. I wonder how August will result? Second Life and the economy at large have been taking heavy hits so its to be expected to see an overall downturn. This month however all my non-SL business is picking up too and in SL saw a more slight uptick to match. Thus, I put the recent increase of sales in SL this month down to larger economic factors, not anything Linden Lab is doing (or undoing, not doing) just people are spending a little more money this summer than usual I think.
  8. Linden behavior in this area is nothing but shameful. I feel sorry for anyone dependant on Linden Lab, any people trying to do any sort of realistic business here. Lindens used to have something cool going on but nowadays the continuous bumbling negligence & ineptitude just makes me sigh a sigh of disappointment.

  10. Couldbe Yue wrote: Back in 2009, I had a chat to Blue Linden and he said (and I paraphrase here) that LLs aim was to have people sell their wares free or cheaply to encourage newbies to stay. At that stage I think the their idea of the perfect relevance score was either 300 or 350L on XSL. I'm wondering now if they've dropped it to around 150... Blue Linden was so cool & honest. One of the Lindens I wish was still here. Anyway lol yeah I think you are right. So what do you do if you think you are worth a little bit more? Say 99 ¢ or $1.99... or even gosh $2.99? I guess I'll continue doing what I've been doing lately. Anything I make that I think is worth more than 60¢ (minus all their outrageous fees) goes elsewhere (ie everything). Some of my oldest stuff I have marked down to those prices.... but if I thought something I made today was only worth 60 ¢ I would probably other trash it, or work on it to make it be better! Way to grab the bottom of the barrel Lindens. Sorry Lindens I'd love to contribute more to your platform but I gotta have self respect & unfortunately there is bills to pay in my life.
  11. Pamela Galli wrote: Relevance seems to mean "What has recently sold", and have nothing to do with which things are the actual money makers. Doesn't help when 'relevency' is only updated every few days or some such too, right? I say it seems to mean 'what has recently transfered to an avatar'. In my books, moving items for fractions of pennies (or straight up zero pennies) is not 'sold' or selling anything. Not when you're dealing with a niche market of less than 60000 people anyway. Yet this looks to be what Lindens chase, Maybe in bizarro world free = profits? More likely its set up this way entirely accidental with their usual haphazard abandon & they just wonder glumly 'gee why isn't this working out?'. I truly believe they have no idea what they are doing nor care to find out. We're just not dealing with professionals here.
  12. With proper industry-grade compression you could have tracks a minute long a fraction the size of these 10 sec wav files. The problem stems from Linden insistence to use only outdated & lag-heavy formats (for everything not just sounds).
  13. I went premium because I thought I needed to be to get an island. I stayed premium because I was too lazy to cancel it at first. Then I realised a year or so later I had a free unused 512 because of it. Yippie! That's pretty cool I thought so I decided to keep it. (Yeah I'm a little slow sometimes to get how stuff works sometimes.) :catembarrassed: Aside from the free land, the L$ stipend you receive makes it essentially free so why not go premium? If you plan on having a 'serious business' presence in SL its pretty much essential because without premium Linden Lab will not give you customer service. Well they do sort of... but not really compared to the nice premium treatment.
  14. Linden cancelled it because every stat is trending severe downward now so quite lamely they chose to hide the info. That lost many peoples trust, make Linden look very shady dishonest & make the problem seem much worse than it is. Basic psychology tells us the one thing people fear most is the unknown. It would be much better for Linden to share the info.
  15. Good points Min. Like the attitude hehe :catembarrassed: To be a little more clear I am not talking Linden pull plug on mesh but on the entire SL product. It is just my opinion, but I think they've put SL into a slow unsustainable death spiral & they are quite content to monetize the **** out of whoever remains as their SL product fades into obselescence. I feel Linden attention has drifted away from their SL product to unrelated shinies. Somebody please remind me why I need a nonadvertised unheard of (and shrinking) 'virtual world' as intermediary for my business endevours again? I can't really see a reason to hide my newest creations in here lately. I have a product release launching next month. Yet it is for my customers on mobile devices so not compatible with old old SL here :catsad: Too bad old Linden couldn't keep up, we had some great days together. All the great Lindens I wish they were still here.
  16. Daily concurrency is down by another 2000 or so. That's the only difference I noticed. Oh yeah & that marketplace corruption problem still grows unsolved with more listings infected. Slowly swirling down the drain it goes.
  17. Pamela Galli wrote: In the future you will see more importing and less creating. So true. I think in the farther future you will see zero importing and zero creating as linden will pull the plug on this disappointing underperformer to focus solely on their new products currently in beta. @ OP: I believe everything uploaded to google becomes google's IP. Google makes money by glomming up small IP holders stuff. Same as facebook does. Want to report it? Better talk to google. Protecting IP does not fit with google's business model. Thats why google fights to protect 'our internet freedoms' as they like to call it... good luck.
  18. Uzumaki Yue wrote: Are we going backward? Yes. Always backward & never forward. Think of it like a time travel. What genius it is! Seriously I agree last names should be allowed, it must be so simple to implement. If I was Linden I would do it. Easy way to make lots of people happy :catmad:
  19. >>When it is doomsday? :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: >>STOMPING AND MEOWING ALL DAY LONG!
  20. this stuff is still all broken? :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: :catmad: they should just make it so you can drop a whole magic box in there & it just works automatically. would be way easier on all of us. not looking forward to another dorky flubbed needlessly complicated transition.
  21. I think this will be a semi-successful product. not a total failure like 'virtual boy' but kinda meh won't be super popular because only appeal to a niche kind of person. being kinda awkward & borgish it will probably be about as popular as those bluetooth headsets, you'll see some people really liking it walking around sporting it, but never a big hit like more fashion conscious Apple stuff goes everywhere.
  22. Blaze Nielsen wrote: the worry here is that some might accuse Linden Lab of systematic theft due to a "bug"..... I have seen these seldom in the past, but never at the frequency I've experienced them in the last couple of days. Hey times is hard & Lindens really need more money. Lucky they have an exposed toggle here as needed allowing them to increase the frequency of how often the 'take all the money' event fires up... oh yeah I mean its a bug, of course... I bet they will fix it reeelly quick. Somehow I feel litigation would work wonders to get it solved in a surprisingly short time *sighs* :catindifferent:
  23. This works well IF you happen to notice the bad review. I've changed 1 star to 5 stars this way by working to turn an irate customer into a very satisfied one & so they rewrite to something nice afterward. Quite frequently these people love the fact you took extra attention and become frequent shoppers. Unfortunately if they only communicate by leaving bad review I never seem to get notification of this (there is no way to have review notifications right?) so occassionally I discover a problem like that 3 months later and then any reply is obviously useless out of place :catsurprised:
  24. I love the idea of a world with mesh-only building & Javascript replacing LSL. Very cool. This world looks great aside from the fact of its entirely facebook dependent & monetarily sponsored by facebook.... thus there is a facebook controlled future ahead for 'cloud party'... which is guaranteed to make it suck for as long as it exists. From a business investment perspective there is no point building up a presence there as facebook is quite likely to be gone in a couple years (already declining same as myspace, friendster, hi5). However, the big reason I hate a facebook world is I don't want to be anywhere with Zuckerberg's heavy breathing over my shoulder, watching my ever move. I know I can login with 'anonymous' account but then I'm a second class citizen, and its still placing me inside a facebook property. Don't trust facebook & want nothing to do with 'em. Facebook is just too creepy. Makes me wanna :matte-motes-sick:
  25. Agree, Phil. I'm not worried about this stuff here. I'm most worried about CISPA, which facebook (and similar monopolistic privacy-destroying companies) avidly support. CISPA is a set of really scary laws that are nothing to do with IP but just totally destroy all internet privacy, a true 'spy on the people' bill. Its getting little notice & people aren't resisting it so quite likely to pass I think.
