  1. Just curious about the Web Merchandise Sales chart.... does this count the volume as in the raw number of item sales, or is it counting the volume of sales earnings? For example, lets say a $1000 L item was selling 10 times a month on Xstreet = 10 sales / $10000 L per month. Now instead, a $1 L item sells 100 times a month on SLM = 100 sales / $100 L per month. Hurrah! We increased from 10 sales to 100 sales.... Awesome? As this example shows, you can have a rise in Sales Volume while seeing a decrease in earnings..... Could you explain a little more what this chart is showing?
  2. Nice to see just the clean data without any spin. Thank you for providing this report. SL is in a plateau for sure, but as long as its not locked in a downward spiral, I'm happy. Looking forward to see how LL will generate the next hype curve! SL seems like its all geared up & ready to go for a massive expansion.... only thing we're missing is LL marketing it properly so that average people on the streets know SL exists. Let's grow SL together into a bigger & better place!
  3. WOW! Google translations of chat! Hurrah! That is a nice one.... I reverted back to the older viewer.... viewer 2 was alright but I'm just used to the old interface..... this gives me a reason to upgrade! I'm always talking with clients & customers who only speak other languages, and must apologize for my slowness of copy/pasting from translation software outside SL.... this makes my job loads easier! Thank you for working to bring us this great improvement!
  4. Great to hear LL taking a renewed focus towards improving support! As a concierge customer, I've seen Linden Lab support improve lately. It was a pleasant surprise, the last time I contacted support, to get my specific issue resolved nicely & promptly. <<There was a period, a short while ago, where support became.... just atrocious.>> I'm happy to see LL took action to improve things again quickly. Now if LL can just get this type of nice support rolled out consistently to all concierge customers, I suspect we'll see a lot more happy faces around here : )
  5. It is a very pretty website : ) Two small things I would change (perhaps LL is already working on) Some Xstreet data (reviews & past sales) is still not migrated (my crocodile & mist for example). All web links to old Xstreet listings are broken -- stops at SLM homepage -- no way to find equivalent new SLM listing. However, congrats on the successful launch & I look forward to see SLM become better & better over time! Please add some pretty charts/graphs somewhere for us visually-thinking merchants ; )
  6. Did LL say anywhere that these teens can visit any PG sims? I'd like if they could visit safe PG sims, like mine : ) From the info LL gives here though I am thinking that they can not access any non-edu PG sims... or anywhere of the grid much at all. The way I read the above, it sounds like they will be confined strictly to the sims run by their educational admin?
  7. I guess rebranding the site and integrating it to be fully rebuilt for SL would be too laborious/costly vs. LL just building all their own stuff from scratch. Maybe this was a lesson learned from costly Xstreet redevelopments. They tried to rebrand it, rebuild it -- but in the end they had to build an entirely new one anyways. It is easier just to start with a blank slate sometimes. However, agreed this does seem very unfriendly to the non-SL people on AU (like EVE players). Can something be done for them to maintain the community they built? @MSo: Thank you for making that Photoblip tool! I really enjoyed using it : )
  8. Something recent seems to have reinvigorated investments in SL. If the $L buying price on the Lindex is any indication, than things are heating up! The value of the $L is rising right now, as demand for $L is increasing. I'd conservatively predict we'll see an $L valued at 260 sometime this quarter. I think that viewing the demand for $L (Open Buy Orders) gives us a realtime snapshot of current consumer interest in SL's virtual economy & also reflects the level of small investor (Currency Traders) confidence in LL's nearterm future. I think it is nice LL did a very non-bias report here not trying to hype themselves or spin anything, leaving us to use our own critical thinking skills to gauge for ourselves how well SL is doing. : )
  9. @Prok: Whenever learning another language becomes part of a path I wish to travel on, I will do so. I believe it is best to empower oneself in all facets of life, thus I will use any & all tools at hand to the best of my ability & will never try to intentionally restrict my toolset. Mesh is hardly for elites only, anyone can do it. Even you Prok, you are free to do it too! It is okay if people want to choose different tools. You also have the right to not use mesh if you hate the idea of it. With the invention of a pencil, would you insist we all continue to scratch with sticks just because you prefer a stick? even when the pencils are free & available to all?
  10. 3-D modeling might well be 100% automated soon enough, as simple as opening your video file, clicking on the object you want in the video, then clicking export as model. This even includes autogeneration of fully animated models. Crazy tech coming soon. Similar to how the camera pretty much destroyed the value & appreciation of photorealism in art. Interesting thing is this new video conversion technology also works to devalue realism, so the artist working purely from their own imagination wins in the end... maybe?
  11. @ maniac & @ spencer: although otherwise I am looking forward to mesh, this one aspect i am concerned about, and i think it is a very valid concern. If we don't want that flood of dirivitive content to bury many legitimate content creators here, LL needs to do something especially clever. People will be importing the latest Halo game assets, or whatnot, shortly after it hits the shelf. We'll see Mario & Luigi avatars (as we've seen before), but now as directly imported copies of Nintendo's original game assets. People will be selling large catalogues of torrented meshes, stolen from anywhere 3-D assets are available (everywhere). Sony or Nintendo, or someone big will take notice at some point. The safe harbour argument threatens to shut down any ISP (in this case LL) where assets are distributed illegally, in any case where the ISP fails to take sufficient action to stop these violations... So LL will either have to develop new security capabilities ...or accept the increased risks & liabilities that come with the territory. I'd suggest LL should adapt an iStockphoto style approval process where meshes are manually approved as copyright-okay or not before upload & all meshes will have to be tracable to the real life ID of the creator. Some process like this is the only way to protect original content creator's rights.
  12. @Prok: Only problem with that argument is anyone can go ahead & study mesh & learn it, same as prim building. You just need motivation to empower yourself & educate yourself in this area. Meshes can be collaboratively worked on, this is what COLLADA stands for actually. Can you make a sculpty? If so, you can definitely learn how to make a mesh. It just takes open mind and desire to learn, same as prim building. There are even free software for mesh & all the knowledge of how to use these tools is free on the internet. So, grab that engine of production if you choose. It is yours too! Nobody needs to be left out in the cold here.
  13. Also, thank you LL for the increased transparency & for doing all the had work involved in gathering the data, shaping it into a form that is understandable & sharing it with us all. The effort is very appreciated : )
  14. @ Daniel: True, each $L is worth slightly less at the moment... but this does not necessarily reflect a true loss of value for individual users. Not all $L users currently hold saw any loss of value, only the $L people held during the period of decline received this loss. If you sold your $L before the slight decline & then after the decline reinvested in $L, there is no loss of value for the trader... and any consumer is able to buy more inworld goods with their $L since they get more $L on the dollar : ) Anyways, demand for $L looks to be strengthening again. So I am expecting another period of volatility sometime soon, where the $L will regain that small loss. Yay for a lively market!
  15. Welcome to Linden Lab, Kim! The X factor here is the wealth of existing high quality UGC (user generated content). Highlight that by getting SL® cash cards in every convenience store across North America. There are many companies that offer cash card services for the popular MMOGs. Surely one of them would be happy to partner with LL delivering this service. A high visibility brand placement. So far LL does not have any brand presence out in the streets, so nobody out there knows SL® exists. Guess you're here to change that! Yay! Cheers, ♥ WADE1 Jya
