Until then, it's doing more damage than good, and making a silk purse of it only increases the damage it's doing. I agree Qie. Lindens don't have even the most basic functionality working at marketplace & until they do they should really not add anything else to the mix! You have excellent suggestion as LL's other revenue streams -- namely tier payments -- are being cannibalized by marketplace. The OP has a great idea too, its just not good timing for such things. If the grid keeps shrinking at current rate it will put LL out of business by later this year. The reason for the shrink is marketplace. Everyone I know that let land go recently did so directly because of marketplace. I just keep my sims at this point because I love having them & could easily afford to keep them running forever. However, I am aware my situation is atypical, most people here need something more commercially viable. LL's big problem is it doesn't make sense commercially to have any land anymore. I can see very well why others are letting their land go. LL's first priority should be re-balancing their products so they are not competing against themselves.

  3. I wish most of my customers would shop inworld... but they usually shop on marketplace. If I ever see the majority of my customers start shopping inworld again, I will close down my marketplace right away. It is such a hassle & timesuck due to all the bugs & issues with it. I'd be so happy to get rid of it. Guess I shouldn't complain though, at least I still have customers despite everything LL has done trying to destroy that :catlol:
  4. The reasoning behind that is just math. Think placing random size objects into neat rows of little boxes all the same size. Some of the objects just won't fit evenly. There's going to be bits poking out. That's how lightmapping is calculated, it scatters fake 'photons' across the object and approximates on a per-pixel basis. The fact it was only wrong on one side was what made me think of this. In these case, upping resolution gives you closer fit (you can probably lower it again later, PS handles this well), or you can just tweak things around a bit manually. Could be other things of course. It could just be you shifted something accidentally like what happens to me after cat lays on my keyboard. Try rebaking.
  5. You are correct, Josh. A lot of people just quietly walk away because this system sucks top to bottom. Well not the very top of the system -- there things are quite good -- if you are an LL exec this system is awesome! Hope they enjoy their fat paychecks as they parasitically bleed out & disassemble what was previously a very cool product. One word describes all we see here -- unsustainable.
  6. Josh Susanto wrote: The best way to start fresh is with a new user account... ... in a different virtual world. ROFL :catlol: Great advice! Actually, I go a step further than this. Truly start over fresh. I think the best way to start over as a merchant is be your own boss. If you're stuck inside of somebody else's system you will only get a teeny slice of that delicious pie. So no user account. Take control. Be admin. No virtual world needed. The blank construct of this matrix lies ready & waiting to access in every machine. Be a world builder.
  7. I think what's happening there is you're fighting with the resolution of your UV map. Pixels are a set size so when precision is needed, these sort of rounding errors can be a struggle. What I do in these situations is just hand edit the bake artistically to make it fit. The quicker alternative in SL is just up the resolution of your map and this probably goes away. Best practice is working at the smallest resolution before 'things look crappy' but with SL likely never landing on mobile platforms probably doesn't matter.

It was with two or three email confirms & i noticed they were severely backdated. I forget how long exactly mine was delayed but I think it was more than a month. I guess its nice LL finally manages to complete & pay out some of these ridiculously messed-up transactions?
  10. probably the tool you are looking for is called 'scalpel'. start from an existing point to create new points on the plane, and preferably end on an existing point or you'll make degenerates. you can use scalpel to just eyeball such cuts (unless this model requires zero tolerance engineering).

Long Live Second Life, marketplace and all. hehehe is that true there really is only one game in town? sounds rather limiting. you do not have to wait for more games to appear. infinite games are possible. make your own game :catwink: i too want SL to survive long time, but thinking realistically i find it increasingly unlikely :catsad:
  12. Totally agree Medhue! This world is not about creating anymore. It's like LL took everything that worked for us creative types & purposefully smashed it to pave way for a 'herd animal' world. LL made it pretty clear they don't want people like you and I here, or if they do want us here they certainly don't value us enough to supply realistic motivators... unless you are willing to turn your brain off & become a 'herd animal' trying to work harder to churn out freebies faster than the next cog in the machine. Could this be any more obvious? Selling your own original creations is a taboo topic and even the definition of 'merchant' itself has become quite gray as to be a meaningless term. This is why lately I spend 100% of my creative cycles elsewhere.
  13. The 'work hard and you will succeed' model died a few years ago (2007) in RL economy when plutocracy split the economy into two distinct seperate economy. Now those who work their butt off are likely to just be an exploited automaton or 'herd animal'. They are extremely unlikely to ever access real wealth by this method. So yeah, I don't believe the hype and don't drink that koolaid. I also don't believe the working hard model pays off here in SL either. What works in RL is being rich enough that you can afford to engage with a certain social set. What works in SL is the same -- approaching with HUGE money and smoozing with Lindens. What works for me is not working harder than anyone else. I tried that once and I only got very sick & tired. Almost died apparently. What works for me is being very smart and agile, doing different things than everyone else and placing my work in thriving properly-promoted markets with global reach -- not chasing diminishing returns in bug-ridden dying markets that are full of cronyism.
  14. hehe :catvery-happy: don't worry. i too scared to touch it. but they won't stop playing... ♪ linden takes a block from the bottom & puts it on the top ♪
  15. :catmad::catmad::catmad: MARKETPLACE = GIANT BROKEN GACHA MACHINE :catmad::catmad::catmad: This happened because Linden code is about as organized as a bowl of spaghetti. All kinds of stuff like this is going on now. Every facet of MP has some degree of data corruption. All scrambled. Often too LL keeps all the money from the transaction. MP has become one giant embarrassing mistake. Since LL has made MP the singular core pillar of SL commerce, I feel I am forced to participate in it to continue selling my goods in SL -- as inworld locations have become next to worthless commercially -- but this whole platform is looking extremely shaky. Like a Jenga tower about to collapse any second.

  17. I'd love to see old Xstreet restored, simply brought back to same as it was. It was so cool such a nice site! Although I assume Lindens have lobotomized all inner workings by now :catsad: If restored -- other problem is Lindens not capable of running site smooth like Xstreet staff :catsad:
  18. Pamela Galli wrote: But the biggest challege of all is only now beginning to hit -- ppl who rip mesh models, retopo them for SL, and bring them in and say "Look what I made all by myself!" I can't deny, it's a good business model -- I feel almost stupid making things from scratch that take such a long time to make when I could be importing ten times as much without bothering with modeling and texturing. Yes this is future of SL. It is Linden's secret roadmap! Just cold corporate logic to maximize their profits & diversify their user base. There is simply far more people who want to rip stuff then there is original creators. Plus those original creators are high-maintenance demanding partners. We are hard to please & demand professionalism from LL. Rippers quietly do their thing & just happy if they get away with it. They produce more stuff faster -- which also benefits LL. Rippers pay LL upload fees the same & LL still gets a cut of all sales. Give it one or two years -- if SL still exists -- original content creation will be essentially dead. Right now -- for the originators -- grass sure looks greener elsewhere.
  19. Good word of mouth will let you survive in SL. That worked for me so far :catembarrassed: Yet how to get really found instead of lost amongst the hoi polloi? Hmmm.... :catfrustrated: First move to California. Then become best buddies with a Linden -- or better yet -- marry a Linden. Alternatively, just get employed at LL. Then you can easily find ways to feed your alt & sabotage all competitors while on the job. Just like house always wins in a casino, Lindens & their friends always win here. They get major hookups like multiple sims with no tier costs forever. In short, anyone can win a round or two sometimes but remember its a stacked deck.
  20. Just this morning I see I got eight sales on MP -- yet only got paid for one sale :catsad: @Flea: LL made a bad choice using Ruby. Its expensive & not efficient for programmers to work with. I believe they just do things randomly with no planning ahead & have no intention to scale up SL ever.

  22. Maybe Lindens don't want anyone in here? I don't know heh. I'm having same trouble using latest Firefox. Internet works fine except the SL site is busted. I guess LL thought the site was out of place & needed to be 'upgraded' to match the new level of quality we've come to expect in MP & SL. At least now it is all a consistent & predictable experience across all Linden properties.
  23. I talk with customer yesterday got double charged! I got paid no money. LL got paid twice. It say 'delivery failed' yet customer receive item. This broken amateurish platform puts us into bad situations & notice 'error' always happen in LL's favor? So lame & sketchy. What a joke it has become. Super aggravating waste of everybody's time. :catmad:
