  1. hello! welcome to Second Life! furries are cool... at least i think so anyway :catvery-happy: in most places around SL you'll find people are accepting of anyone almost and not prejudice. hope you don't meet too many more jerks during your exploring of Second Life :cathappy:
  2. Perhaps for some of us it depends what you started from with computers. What was the first computer you spent a lot of time on? Mine was a mac, and I've stayed with mac ever since. PC never felt engaging to me. So naturally the first computer I spent loads of time on was mac. I actually can't use PC I realise lately... because I just don't know how anymore! Everything feels in the wrong place for me and it just looks foriegn & intimidating. At a friends house if they have PC I always have to ask them how to do simplest thing on it like how to change what music is playing :catvery-happy: One thing I don't get is why is UI of PC always so ugly and require 5 steps where mac does it in one? If it looked prettier & didn't seem to be making thing more complicated on purpose to appear very serious business, I would probably have a PC also as it would be useful to me as a software developer ....from time to time.
  3. The only way your avi would die is when/if the corporation managing Second Life (Linden Research Inc) has a financial meltdown, a bankrupty or some type of other catastrophic collapse involving the company (i.e. fire, solar flare, massive data loss, etc). That would instantly create a E.L.E. (extinction level event) in our virtual world where all avis would die. :catsad: Other than that you and your avi are 100% safe so don't worry about it so much :catvery-happy:
  4. Hah. If I was liable for this type of thing I would close down my sim immediately. Sorry you are having difficulty and please be assured we don't like griefers either... but this is the other side of the picture... Since sims are typically run by sole proprietership (one person)... or very small teams... there is no way for us to micromanage these kind of issues at all times 24/7/365. Quite often, there is also no way for us to seperate genuine complaints from false accusations... unless we happened to be there online in close proximity as eyewitness to the events... even then it often gets tricky. Most owners, we will try our best (within the limited resources we have access to) to provide a quality environment but please understand there is going to be gaps where you're kinda on your own! To compound our difficulty of being virtually blind unless we literally followed your avatar around, even then we still have limited scope and do not have appropriate tools to observe the numerous other more severe cyber security issues that may take place on 'our lands'. There simply is not adequate security tools provided to sim owners. The only party with the proper tools to examine & enforce any of these things is Linden Lab (the corporation managing Second Life). Liability rests entirely with them, thank god :catvery-happy:
  5. Just don't use social networks. They are all garbage spyware and a creeper's paradise. If you don't use Facebook or Google+ then you are 100% safe. If you got accounts at either just delete those. Go email only and you gain 100% privacy, a worry free life. Facebook & Google have proven themselves repeatedly to be not trustworthy companies :catfrustrated:
  6. Yes I do believe the logging out process can take up to even several minutes. It can even sometimes hang & fail which leads to 'ghosted' avatars. I guess Linden thinking is since you already logged out there is no reason to allocate much resources towards the logout process and thus it is a low priority function.
  7. i'd just tour around... type words into the SL search of whatever crosses your mind at the moment, or words that link to any interests you have. you are likely to meet people at these locations with similar interests. to meet people just go towards the av dots on the map and say hello. if they aren't great, they are rude, or they don't reply u, just leave and go somewhere else :catembarrassed:
  8. oh come on.... it was obviously programmed by more than one monkey :catfrustrated: ...plus at least 15 chimpanzees, maybe a baboon or two :catlol:
  9. lately i'm into making games, love cats of course, making art & drawing pictures, eating food & watching sci-fi :catvery-happy:
  10. I'm seeing some issues too. Hmmm... it not working so good. All we can do I guess is hope Linden has capability & resources to fix these problems someday, and hope for the best :catindifferent:
  11. Investing in 3d software not a waste because you can use it across such broad horizons way beyond & above SL. The potential return on investment value in the hands of a skilled 3D artist far exceeds cost of software. The software will still have diverse usefulness long after SL is gone so I say waste is impossible... unless someone buys it and then they never use :catembarrassed:
  12. Okay, it might be you have accidentally set it up there so the only TP point allowed into this region is the bad placement which is subducting your avatar. That kind of thing is in your 'region/estate' settings. There is a checkbox "Allow TP anywhere" which should be on. If a friend teleports into the region and lands in same spot that is what is happening. If it is just your avatar, setting a new 'home point' for your avatar should be enough to correct it. Look around anyway in those areas of the menu. Menu might not be exactly as described... i can't login now to check :catsurprised:
  13. I'm sure its just shutting down quietly with no replacement, same with anything else SL businessy/hypey related, it don't exist anymore. Just 'the game' remains. Sorry to call it a game :catwink:
  14. take off all items you are wearing. this will leave your avatar naked so go soewhere that is not a problem. something you are wearing is animating your avatar.
  15. Good that people outside USA with no paypal can still buy linden $$$. I was getting a bit worried since a large portion of my customers & clients are not English speaking. It is a big deal though to block all non-USA no-paypal-access merchants from cashing out. That is really going to hurt a lot of people. Especially so since it happened suddenly with no warning. This move is only going to help SL population continue to shrink at accelerating rates and decrease confidence in the platform.
  16. Yandex is a nice alternate to gmail. I quite like having .ru on the end of my address instead of .com :catvery-happy: Google is getting bad enough with privacy invasion & general creepy creepiness as to be avoided. Don't give Google (or facebook) any info about yourself... or your family... or your friends. Even if you don't use these sites, you must still use security to block their tracking cookies also. These companies are monsters.
  17. Correct me if I am wrong... but I believe Linden Lab has a service they can do this for you. It costs 100 dollars (or more) for a name change :catsad: Yes Linden Lab is that out of touch & silly :catlol:
  18. Yes unfortunately Linden Lab thinks its fun to destroy, replicate & monopolize any successful resident business. Linden Lab repeatedly does inconsiderate things which render developer efforts moot. It is a pattern Linden Lab does which creates wariness for would-be developers of their platform. Linden Lab loves monopoly, hates to share profit with anyone else :catindifferent:
  19. After years of dealing with Linden Lab I have learned. Yes they are not very nice. I used to defend them when people criticize... but then again they used to be different Lindens... a much better crew back then. Sure they still have a few nice Lindens (like Dakota) at the bottom of the corporate ladder... but the executive Lindens, the ones with the power to actually do stuff, these ones are not very nice at all. It is generally predictable of Linden Lab they will always be a disappointing company and do the worst things to people. :catsad:
  20. My sales are identical rate before & after migrating to Direct Delivery. There was no change, no improvement but no decline either. :catindifferent: My partner, Natsuko's shop Swallowtail Designs saw a different result. Her marketplace sales dropped to zero immediately after migrating to Direct Delivery. We can't figure out why. Any hints welcome? anyone else see this bad of an effect from migrating? :catsad: It sure looks like her shop is listed properly but must have dropped out of the charts. Probably migrating can affect relevency big time. ...or maybe just all her transactions now are invisible with Linden keeping 100% of her money? :catmad: Pretty much it is a shame that Linden keeps messing people up at every turn. Trying to do business here is like a game of Russian Roulette.
  21. Only would work if Linden Lab takes out all that cooperative creative tools & building stuff they got in here. Who knows they seem desperate these days so might give it a go :catindifferent: Problem with your idea is, SL is too laggy & without throwing everything out & devoting itself entirely to being a combat game it will never deliver the smooth as butter framerate gamers love, so can't compete with other shoot-em-up offerings.
  22. i am sorry for inconvenience :catsad: i too am guilty that all my items arrive boxed :catsad: why? as others said it is to do with the migration system. the way linden lab set it up is very poorly. it take many hours to move from one linden system to next. if unbox everything it would take many days! thus with merchants pressed for time the things remain boxed usually. it is just the old school way to sell in SL & so the style remains this way today :catindifferent:
  23. one word explains it all... :catsad: incompetence :catsad:
  24. :catlol: Linden Lab don't care about 'ease of use'. Magic Boxes require the sim they are in to be up & running 24/7 to deliver goods and most importantly pay Linden Lab their commission cut. Direct Delivery was rushed out in a who-cares-what state so that very soon all sims can & will be made to be completely inactivated whenever zero avatars are present & only boot up (we can only imagine how quickly) when someone teleports in. Yes Direct Delivery was implemented strictly as precursor to a coming-soon cost-cutting measure, a service downgrade 'feature' for us, so Linden Lab can save money on server costs. :catsad: :catsad: :catsad:
  25. I am sorry to hear of your loss Pamela. Best of luck resolving it with these burglarious scoundrels :catsad:
