  1. I've never tried this as a shopkeeper, and hope I never have to. But if I were your customer, and tped into the first store of yours that came up in the search, and everything of yours was there, I'd probably do what your customers do now, and say "meh...they're moving...ok lets get what I came for". But if I tped in, and there was instead a big lm giver, a beautiful photograph of your shiny new store, and a whopping huge sign saying "yaay I moved...tp here to my fabulous new mainstore where all my Freebies are freeeee!!", well, then I'd make the effort, and update my lm. I really can appreciate how scarey it is to do, and I hope you manage without losing any lovely customers.
  2. Possible inaccuracies aside, it's time to whip out those scripts, as 8 meg is a bit ginormous. My bet's on the boots and hair having resizers, so squirrel away a copy if you can and delete all scripts. It's nice how it can make your tps smoother
  3. Someone in the fashion thread reported a transparency bug with the V2 update, and this could be the same problem as yours. Some spherical nanos (like possibly your little balls) make use of transparency to look smaller than they really are, and this could account for the weird and larger shape (ie, the outside of a prim may be showing its usually 100% transparent outer surface.) Oblong and weird shaped prims may be unrezzed sculpt maps on some prims. If others see them as fine, then definately clear cache and reboot. Just two guesses....seeing a photo may help us work it out.
  4. They lost me at "homes that customers really enjoy living in".
  5. "Worm on Skull". (I lolled.) And if he has the fullperms hair, and is happy to sell it as such, yes it's very odd that he doesn't have the textures too. Most full-perm sellers supply the textures, as you know.
  6. Thanks Randall..it's a thoughtful reminder, as some days many of us are in danger of getting mired up in all the "should-dos". Please know that I get excellent amounts of funs in all worlds. Let me add this to my List- -I believe SL is extremely fun. (Sometimes the most obvious truths are too obvious to think of including.)
  7. That is frustrating, as I agree they are ugly. I used to only see them when they were in front of shiny surfaces, or alpha textures, and the rest of the time they'd not be visible. Is the latest official viewer showing them now 100% of the time? All I can suggest is wearing V2-friendly shoes which make use of alpha layers rather than invisiprims, and adjusting any of your old shoes (if they are mod) by shrinking the invisiprims down and tucking them away into the shoe, and wearing them with a suitable alpha layer. There are a selection of free ones available about the place if you don't have any already in your folders from other shoes.
  8. I am never going to be able to come up with a definitive List, but here goes- -We live in an increasingly over-controlled, over-politicised, over-censored, over child-centred, over guilt-ridden, over correct society. There are no wilds left to explore for us adults, no forests to run through freely and all alone, no continents to map or unexplored un-suburbanised corners available to the average person. SL is a poor substitute, but it is a great way to at least let our minds roam free. -The antidote to this is not neccessarily the creation of a virtual world full of all the opposites to the above. Let's get some sanity. -I doubt we will ever satisfy many of the issues that are raised through the SL community, but the debates that ensue through the related forums are essential parts of human thought. Is it ok to portray a child in an AO area? Can anyone be raped? Is being a **bleep** a symbol of owning a historically insulting label and being an empowered modern woman, or is it playing into the hands of popular entertainment forces which then desire to use you for it's own ends? Do digital designers own their creations, or do they owe it all to previous artists and rl, and should others have free access to their work, is sampling ok, and where does creativity start? Define 'original', anyway; does it exist with the individual, or the mass of humanity? None of this is easily answerable, but it's very healthy, and great that we have SL to throw the questions up into the light. -There are two types of people; those who invest into SL (emotionally, or as builders, or merchants, or sim owners, or members of communities, or teachers, or students) and those that don't. If you are the first type, never engage in debate with the second as they have absolutley nothing to lose, having ventured nothing. -Don't even go down the road of saying "What do you know- you've ventured nothing!" as to them, any caring is to lose the game. -People don't use local chat or openly greet each other anymore, and this is a sad indication of something or other. -There are two types of people; those who get Mainland, with all it's inconsistencies, and those who live on idyllic tropical paradises. I still don't know which type is more insane. -We should treasure our noob days. Never again will we look as ugly, make as many social faux-pas, or believe that it's cool to live in freebie gorean castles rezzed 2000m up in sandboxes, but those days will form sweet memories and senses of wonder, which we should never forget. Don't rob the next generation of it's rights to experience the same. -There are two types of people; those who want to tell you about their broken ride-on lawnmower the second you log in, and those who really value SL for it's wondrous creative potential. -There are two types of people; those who build and stuff and those who like to bop about in clubs yelling "Whoooo me wuvs dis choooo-oooon". Okay I'm openly trolling here, but sometimes that second type have a good reason for just wanting to do nothing for a bit. Or sometimes not...grin. -SL is still BETA, and hopefully will never be declared as anything else. I want it to be perpetually evolving. -You should never respond to any semi-noobie looking man who hovers 19m over you and IMs you with "hi" while you are out and about, especially if you are already with a male friend. The ensuing conversation will always make you want to weep after 2 minutes. -To log off naked is just asking for trouble. Or logging off with a compromising log-in screen. Always consider the end game. edited to add that my List drifted into sort of general advice a bit...sorry
  9. I'm really enjoying Firestorm, and hoping for great things in it's future. It's the friendliest V2 version I've found.....(runs off to do survey)
  10. Hello ling--I'm sorry that you have had this issue, as it can be very upsetting. I haven't seen your work, but you must be a good stylist to have so many requests for this information, and have very inspiring vendor ads. I think you could use this to your advantage in future, and make it a part of your customer service. A style card could be included in each box, so that your customers can have help achieving the look they see on the vendor ad (which is really what they want to achieve). You could use this to form relationships with the other creators, and they could perhaps use your products with your name in their style cards. You would all be benefitting. It sounds like you have the blog thing worked out well. I know many people don't like to hunt for information, but you can always direct customers to it. Also, look at it another way...as an example, I make hatpins, and of course had to show them on hats in my ads. My customers sometimes asked for links to where to buy the hats, which I was happy to do, as they are lovely. But then I realised that it's better to make my own hats to my own design, and sell them next to the hatpins. It is the same in your business- your customers are telling you about a need, and you can fill it. Why don't you gradually widen your range so that you can display and sell more items designed by you. Create an entire look. And in the meantime, I'd suggest repairing what damage you can with this customer, and then moving on. Don't get into any lengthy IM sessions, but do send her a polite notecard with the information she wanted, and an apology. Let her know that you are thankful for her criticism, as you are using that to improve your methods in future, and that you are glad that she has in fact helped you. Best of luck, ling

Honestly, no one is more surprised by this than I am. Nothing wrong with bits of rock. They are very useful things in gardens, especially if you want to hide mundane terrain textures. Perhaps you could also enlist a few friends to try and find your product on the MP. It might help you hone your keywords if you watch what they use to search with. Don't let them cheat and just punch your name in..they have to pretend they've never heard of you.
  12. Sometimes my textures won't load. People still buy my stuff. You could try- a) clear cache and use smaller resolution textures and b) make better stuff. Just poking you about number two, sorry. I'd recommend using an alt to test a cross section of your vendors, both inworld and on the MP. See if they can make purchases. If they can, check your land settings to make sure you arent stopping people arriving somehow. Then check that you and your store/s are showing in Search. If you have had a sudden and dramatic stoppage of all sales that were healthy before there is definately something weird happening, and I'd guess Search is the probable culprit.
  13. A Victorian walking outfit...very proper for daytime...dress is from Rag Dollz Steampunk Emporium, straw hat from Montagne Noire, embroidered suede gloves from Le Grenier du Chateau, jewellery by me.
  14. Absolutely. Nothing beats the creative rush, and the sense of power and accomplishment felt when you realise a vision. If LL took that away from us all, and made us live in near-identical dogboxes...what would seriously be the point.
  15. Glad you got it working...this sounds like you have no-mod jewellery, so couldn't stretch the prims. It definately beeded to be lifted up though, as you must be a bit taller than the person it was built on. It can be quite hard selecting worn prims that are close to your body, so I understand how it can take a few tries to get the edit menu up. Three things you can try are - 1) Using Phoenix....try edit-preferences-input and camera-slide camera view angle all the way to the left.this will allow you to get right in to where the action is. 2)Camming round and selecting the necklace from different angles. Sometimes the back of the neck works, or sometimes it sticks out a bit over the curve of the shoulder. 3)Holding down shift while mouse clicking, and attempting to drag a selection around the worn necklace. You can tell if the item is moddable (despite what the perms say) by seeing if the texture window is blanked out or not while it's selected. If the texture shows in the window, you'll be able to edit the size of the whole object, or select single prims to change. Just make a copy first
  16. Ha ha ha now that would make people think twice about using them. Sweet justice indeed. I have an open garden, that anyone can visit, and my neighbours and friends have adjoining land which is the same. We theme it consistently so that the area is pleasant. We've had others living on 512s by us that had their buildings taking up all the space they own, and banlines, so that they effectively got to enjoy all our landscaping for free without returning anything. (Not that I'd have any interest in sitting in their loungeroom on their fugly beige 1980's era torus sofa staring at their cliche unicorn-and-boobs "art") I had a girl once set up a cement-and-flourescent-grafitti shop right in the middle of our gardenny area, also taking every single inch of her rented 512 (in fact she had me move a tree that was touching her building by one pixel as she had the monstrosity squeezed in so tightly). Her shop relied upon my open garden to supply a landing area as her doorway was right on the parcel boundary. But I'm starting to turn whiney...time to end this post and go make coffee
  17. You can start one, Marigold
  18. LOL....someone once had some prim walls made around their property with a texture all over, saying in red angry banline-esque lettering "CUSS OFF CUSS OFF CUSS OFF CUSS OFF CUSS OFF CUSS OFF CUSS OFF CUSS OFF" . I'm assuming it was to return a 'favour' to a neighbour. Awful but funny.
  19. This debate has always been heated and probably always will be, as we have two opposed ways of looking at the world, invariably pitted against each other. But, if this were my world, and I were the Big-Fat-Empress-Of-Everything, I'd have it like this....(cue dreamy fantasy music) Ground level- ban all banlines, and let people wander at will on foot/horseback, and drive at will on roads, sail at will on waters. They should always be ejectable and bannable by the landowner/group officers if they behave badly. Up to say about 400m (100m or so above the clouds)- ban all banlines, and let people fly at will, including in aircraft, with the expectation that they will show common courtesy and not fly into any low-lying skyboxes. Naughty people can still be kicked out and banned. Anyone who really didn't want to be flown into could move their structures a little higher. Over whatever that height was (say, above when you can no longer view the ground comfortably)- a range of up to 1000m where skyboxes can be built without obstructing aircraft, but is still semi-public land, according to the wishes of the landowner. Over that height (1500m-ish up)- owners are permitted to use effective banlines to maintain privacy for skyboxes on their own land. Everyone else can choose whether these are visible to them or not, to avoid visual pollution. Orbs can zap people to death very painfully in the goolies within 2 seconds after the first warning, even if they only tried to cam-perv in. And their alts. And their alts' meeroos. Basically, a system of increasing privacy with altitude. Also, I'm thinking as a Mainlander (as ever), and imagine that if someone paid for their own island, they'd not expect to share it unless they chose to.
  20. For every customer that is unhappy that an item is sold no-transfer, there are (likely more than) twenty that wouldn't be customers at all if that item weren't copy/mod. Perhaps you could contact the creators and ask if they can do a special no-copy/transfer version for you? Many of us don't mind helping if it's possible.
  21. The biggest loss to us was when we were no longer able to export our content. Biggest gain...hmm...sculpted prims...they're pretty wonderful, I think. Edited to add that I agree with alpha layers being worthy. I think we are yet to see an explosion of creative avatar design that takes full advantage of this. I bet all the smart people are waiting for mesh to come first.
  22. I really have to agree with you about not wasting your precious time doing errands for someone else's business with little reward. I would always recommend freeing up time by spending a few measly dollars on the lindens you might have earned, and then investing that time into learning how to do brilliant things for yourself, and ultimately for your own customers. You can meet wonderful people and learn wonderful things through classes and sandbox communities. In my opinion, this is far more valuble than wearing out your pixel shoe leather selling someone else's stuff if they are dubious. (Bear in mind that I'm totally biased, being someone who lives by building, not land sales, which I happily admit to knowing nothing about.) I don't at all mean to insinuate that potential employers are neccessarily charlatans, only that I have seen a few new residents chasing rainbows, when they could have spent their energy more profitably and enjoyably. Nothing replaces (to me) the joy and challenge of doing it for yourself, businesswise
  23. I've never met anyone who's ever wanted a gift card before. You could just have your loved ones put money into your cc if you had to..it'd be simpler. Truly, for how cheaply and easily lindens can be purchased, I can't see the problem. And it would avoid the potentially embarrassing problems that might arise if Grandma wants you to show her what you bought with her birthday voucher.
  24. /me passes you a nice hot cup of tea. Yep, these things do suck.

No one would ever come back for their inventory clearance 2006 bling boots. ROFL But seriously someone needs to make a museum of these things - a History of SL Design or something. A few years ago someone showed me a 2004 nightclub that had been left rezzed for posterity - forget the name but it was pretty fascinating - 1 prim coloured cylinders for bar stools, etc. A museum of what was the best of it's type for each year in SL would be fascinating. We have YadNi's, with it's wonderful collection of freebies since 2003, but to see what was cutting edge technology in it's time would really map out the technical advances. Simply the evolution of the SL shoe alone (especially with Melita's 2006 hooker heels blinging like a Vegas casino) would be great to see. Slostagia?
