  1. Willow...it's not so bad..truly..I think $L3000 for a 1024 is not the most expensive mistake to make. (My first 512 cost something like $L7000 which was reeeediculous even back then) I know it's so easy to do in the heat of the moment. Just keep in mind how nice those extra prims will be, and the initial cost will soon be forgotten.

Many of us are not the same. (Trying not to make this dissolve into yet another perms debate, but I'm still looking for the best low-prim low-lag method of supplying every perm combination to everyone. It ain'ten't always that easy, lol.)
  3. ooh....thanks...running off to look (I guess everything that's relevant will only increase in relevance now.)
  4. (Shameless plug below) If you like jewellery and accessories, pop by and have a look. Everything I make is copy/mod, but if you prefer mod/trans, I can do that for you. Older work has removable resizer scripts, but I have stopped including them in newer ranges. Signage over the top of each range will tell you exactly which those are. I'm looking forward to seeing what other designers post here, as I might go shopping myself
  5. That's fair comment, Rhonda. I don't know your shape, but the feets in Similar shoes are very long and sinewy. I can see how they just wouldn't suit all.
  6. They are unique indeed! Those heels are mindblowingly gorgeous. I've never seen any shoe even come close.
  7. I've owned no-covenant mainland for 3 years, and so have had a fair share of the resulting joys and stresses. Breeders can spring up anywhere, and I feel your pain. One or two critters is fine, but I just don't get why some need 30+ of them all packed into rows, with usually another dozen dead/sick under the ground. It is a problem when you are a neighbour, trying to live a quiet life, watching the lag increase, cutting back your activities, while watching the critters multiply next door. I've lived through a few waves of breeder fixations, and discovered that chickens are quite tasty barbecued, actually. Bunnies need boiling. Turtles are really icky to eat, and take a bit to crack open. I'm building a spit rotisserie big enough to take a baby horse atm, and looking up yummy marinades. But seriously I'd do what Immy said...AR for unfair use of sim resources if polite requests dont work. Or ride it out. Honestly, change is constant, and one day they'll move on. Despite this I don't support zoning. A mixture of land use (as long as it's not impinging on neighbours) adds to the health of a sim. I can only talk as a mainland resident/businessperson, but I know that my income allows me to own the land I do. The garden at ground level, open to all, would not exist if it weren't for the shop and studio above that makes it possible. Protect cottage industry in the suburbs!
  8. Gah!!!! I was replying to Valerie, and this forum seems to not show that. Nor can I work out how to simply edit a post. I suck at this, or this forum sucks a bit..one or the other. edited to add that I saw the edit option only too late
  9. I loove those boots (and have a few pairs). I'll go out on a limb and say that Similar Footwear are the best shoe designers in SL.
  10. I hope you do take the plunge, and wish you the best. As usual, I've come in late to a thread (blame timezones), but have had a mainstore on Mainland for over 2 1/2 years, and love it. One of the best assets you can have as a business is a stable landmark. Don't let the location of your business be at the mercy of a middleman who may suddenly up-stumps and leave you stuck. On Mainland, you can only lose control of your land if you do something stupid. Also, it can be ideal to increase your landholdings gradually, without having to invest in a large chunk of island at the start. Mainland can be quite flexible that way, and this has improved since the drop in demand. If I suddenly had to cut my tier, I'd have the option of slicing some off, and could still keep the original section and landing point. If the neighbours are doing something hideous, move upwards, away from any lag, and remember that they will probably soon move anyway. Have fun, and good luck
  11. As someone who's gone through the process of submitting tickets about neighbouring abandoned land, to have them cleaned up and prepared for auction (and then fought to buy them), I really do welcome any improvement to how this is done. Abandoned land can sit there for years, with remnant prims hanging in the air, banlines still in place and landscaping that makes it impossible to navigate anyway. We've had Lindens come to clean up land like this and frankly whoever turned up did a Friday Afternoon Job (removing linked external wallks only) and left. It's ugly, and is a waste of sim resources. I like what Wildcat has suggested, where priority is given to neighbours as we do need to have a mechanism in place that supports the growth of small communities, and encourages these to grow. (Should priority be ranked according to 'sides-touching' or 'length-of-perimeter-touching'? Which is most fair?) Anyway, anything that keeps living breathing people owning land and using it well rather than bots is a plus.
  12. Just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying this thread. Wish everyone would add a slurl
  13. I laughed at the first one as it meandered past and forced me off the road. I smiled blandly at the next several dozen, and assumed the Moles had begun to provide a public transport service, albeit a really dodgy one. Then they quickly lost all appeal over the next few months, as any attempt to use the nearby Linden Roads on Jeojeot has been interrupted every 2-3 minutes by these ugly looking things. After reading this, I'm getting a cannon and going hunting. These things really pee me off now I know how they came to be, and after living on Mainland for 3 years I can usually take most annoyances without batting a prim lash.
  14. I think there is a natural law at work here, that like attracts like. Over time, I've seen much of the random scattered mess of Mainland around my home consolidate into either mini-communities, or swathes of abandoned empty space. It's beautiful where I live too, now. Much different from the barricaded urine-soaked heckhole it once was. Phoenix'es permanent derender button still helps a little bit though, must admit.

To my husband, Don't think I didn't know what you were doing during those long hours.. Yes, Hidden Camera, dear Hubby... I used your log in account too.. I know!! Prepare your lawyer!" I only survived about 2 days in Zindra before my account was reported for using someone's account/stalking and suspended for 4 months. You cruel cruel woman......that is soooo disgustingly cruel I cant stop laughing. How many men slunk back to the bedroom and looked sideways at their wives because of that?
  16. I've stumbled across that glass tunnel too, Eileen. Isn't it a great find, and so unexpected. I live quite a few sims north of it, but have ridden almost all the north/south road of that continent.

Sim crossings on Mainland are tricky at times, as I find my car rubberbands a bit as I go over, so I take it carefully, and also keep my inventory down. Sim crossings between two islands though have just got me beat. How do you do it with that dead space in between? (sorry i couldn't help myself :smileywink: )
  18. It's Kidd Grass, from here. I'm really happy with it, and it's freed up loads of prims.
  19. I set an evening aside each time I have to upload to Marketplace as it just seems to take forever. Having related items load as a batch would be wonderful. One thing that makes it bearable is having autocomplete on your PC. I think it comes with Firefox, and hope someone can verify this. It's brilliant for taking the pain out of filling the windows like price, features, slurls, etc.
  20. gahhhh! I had no idea this was the default either. (trotting off to check my ticky-boxes)
  21. Part of Sinaburoe, Southern Continent, where I live and garden with friends. I've just finished planting new grass, and love how it improves the terrain texture.
  22. What everyone positive has said. It's the chance to explore. I live near a linden road, and love to hop on a horse/bike/car/helicopter and go down to the pub. Or go even further. In fact I can travel for hours, and find almost anything, from tacky to grand. There is nowhere to go on an island. People. Mainland has people, some new, some old, some locals and some explorers. We never know who is going to come visit the garden, and I really like random people walking through, saying hi. We are forced to cope with neighbours. Despite how annoying a bad one can be, it's repaid 10 times over by the friendship of a good one. Constant change and flux. The pleasant surprise of finding that a friend next door has finally decided to live inside a Giant Peach. The flexibility of being able to own as much or little as you desire. I've slowly added to my land as business has grown. If I needed to tier down, I'd be able to sell some off, and never have to lose my landmark. And the real biggie- NO LANDLORD.

    First!

Wow..that was incredibly fast! I'm actually impressed, which is a nice way to start the day. I'm really looking forward to seeing what people can achieve on Mainland, having a place to discuss problems particular to it, and promoting happiness and creativity amongst all SL residents, (even if they have fled to island paradises like the wusses they are.) and virtual world peace of course. :smileyhappy:
  24. ooh ooh ooh..(hops about a bit)....just had a minor brainwave 2 seconds after posting..maybe what we need is a panel in the item's Marketplace listing showing what a customer would see if they could be inworld and inspecting the boxes contents? ie..every individual item listed with its perms?
