  1. You are a mine of information. That's great stuff to read about
  2. Nope, I don't think it'd ever happen. But I like the way you think.
  3. It is hard, even when you've been here a little while. You are fighting to be noticed above a constant scream of "NEWNESS NEWNESS NEWNESS" from the thrice-weekly-new-releasers-and-discounters, even if you have slaved for weeks over a gorgeous original creation. Good bloggers do wonders, especially when they can throw your items under a different light and style them in ways you might not have considered. Creators can be a bit reclusive ( I find it partially neccessary), as that's often what it takes to do the designing, sculpting, texturing and putting-togethering, but bloggers are usually better networkers and so the skills are complementary. You help their blog by supplying material, and they help you by supplying critique and exposure. Don't rely on inworld search, and instead make sure that your Marketplace listings are kept up-to-date with each release. I do recommend that you get involved with any major fairs related to your industry. They may only happen annually, but they are really a brilliant way to reach new clientelle. (Jewellery Fair. On Now. Go There.....snort.) Hunts...hmmm....I'd recommend you do one every now and again. I've done 2 in 3 years, but I'm a cranky old woman so don't listen to me. I'd really like to do another soon, if it's themed specifically, and is fun. And "specific" is the key. Find a niche, and be specific to it. Find a passion, and find other people who are passionate about the same thing.
  4. I was quite proud to hear that we'd advanced our official thinking about how we label people in Aus. Then I realised that the third label is probably not really the most ideal solution. Shouldn't we just let people update their gender easily to represent who they are (according to who they identify as), and leave it at that? No further invasion of privacy or exposing labels needed.
  5. Dogboat Taurog wrote:and imagine all the australians who will tick the third gender box for a giggle. :smileyvery-happy: Naah...we're Australians! We'd never dream of doing a thing like that.
  6. This does sound like it's being marketed to drama-queens-in-the-making, but the script function has been used for good reason over the years. I've used it to help serve customers who have left an offline and need me to contact them when they are on....instead of having to repeatedly bring up their profile to check if they are online, I can just receive a message instead and get on with other things in the meantime. However, harrassment is a different matter, and anything that is used to amass data and store it gives me the creeps. So, I don't think the product is bad on it's own, ToS-wise, but it could be used in a manner that breaks it.
  7. I'd love to see a list of those who are updating their old shoes..... Like you, I've either shrunk-and-buried or deleted invisiprims from everything I can. The best bit was removing them from a pair of much-loved faun legs, which had them from the knees down, and making alphas to match. The improvement was incredible (Isn't photoshopping out invisiprim scars a really annoying thing!) It's so frustrating that some of my favourite shoes cannot be updated simply. Perhaps I should stop grumping and write some nice notes to my favourite shoe-makers offering polite suggestions. A side comment- How come so few good shoes are mod? What's up with that?
  8. /me waves back...I'm definately hoping I can make it
  9. Step one is to find out what it is that is the most fun for you in SL. Then do it a lot until you are really good at it. Many people would agree that the best businesses are often the ones that exist not merely make money, but instead offer something that the owner is passionate about. Personally, I'd skip the SL job thing, and dedicate the time to learning (lots of great classes are available, with good people to meet in them), and practising (if you want to build, go and play in a sandbox). Other people will recommend exactly the opposite, I'm sure, and with good reasons. But any active involvement will teach you general skills, and truly every single thing you can learn about life in SL will come in handy at some stage.
  10. They will get it for 10 if they buy it via the Marketplace. (I believe that LL has a policy that items are priced the same in both instances. They especially get a bit tetchy when the store price is cheaper. Just check your rulebook if you are planning on having two pricing structures.)
  11. You could find some good furniture/decorating blogs, talk to the owners and offer review packs for them to critique and present to their readers. This is a great way to promote your brand, and takes time but no money. Then perhaps create your own store blog, share links with others, and have it accepted into relevant feeds. Most creators would use this coverage to promote their inworld mainstore, but you could use it to connect to your marketplace storefront if this is how you plan to do things.
  12. This is a new low. Thanks for letting people know. Knowledge is really the best first defence.
  13. If I were a neighbour, I don't think I could reach for the derender button fast enough. It pre-empts a lot of "pure nightmares" on both sides of the boundary. /me wrestles with herself about possible further suggestions, and decides not to, but it's really really difficult.
  14. Umm..Telstra Who?........what Pond?......(heheh) You are right that ABC Island was the Australian face in SL looong before the rest came along. Yes we need more of the Dr Karls, Triple Js, Mr Squiggles and 'Matt and Daves' here. And we do miss Mr Wolfie, which goes without saying.
  15. Yes, I was disappointed when I found I couldn't dig down more than a couple of metres under the existing land level here in Sinaburoe (a long way from the sea), and yet I could see the water winking prettily at me from 50m+ down below. It blew all plans for a tunnel-and-ladder system down to a secret underground nudie bonfire beach club. Bit of a bugger really. I still love it here though, despite having to make do with prim water. (Please someone make some mesh water thats as lovely as real water, for us mainlanders with limited terraforming.)
  16. I'm guessing that the merchant uses split-proceeds vendors inworld, and forgot to remove this script from the vendor prim before adding it to their magic box. The pop-up was only asking permission to debit from your account, which if you say no to, it will be ok. It will probably ask you this each time you rezz the object, so be careful that you don't grant it these permissions. The merchant would most likely want to know about this, so that they can remove the script. I'd ask them to send you a fresh copy, just in any case, then delete the scripted version.
  17. I've had success dodging the outline problem by creating an alpha layer to match my drawn fur texture, then creating a 36 bit TGA from this. It seems to be the most accurate method for drawn textures. If your texture is taken from a photo image, it is a little trickier as you must mask out the fur you want from the background.
  18. Done! The Island is one of the things that brought me to SL, and it's still a great place with a great bunch of people. It really is overdue a revamp however. Don't lose the bowling though. I really love the bowling :-)
  19. Marry a good scriptor in rl, or only use somebody who you know well and can trust. Would hiring a scriptor with a clear contract outlining your conditions help?
  20. And that join between shirt layer and system skirt is infamously tricky. If you look at the UV maps for both, I think you'll see that the two layers are scaled differently, so it's nigh impossible to get that one perfect. I'd either make the texture subtle in that area (or darken it as Rolig said) or make a belt to cover.
  21. Agree, Josh. I use Firestorm. But to each their own I guess.
  22. Thanks for posting the photos...they really are screwed up! It does look like it is the bug, and I'd say you found an answer for until it's fixed.
  23. leyna wrote: I was thinking it would be great to have the option to choose, but if I'm gifting something and they can't copy for editing purposes I don't think I'd chance sending it to them. Agree. I think stores can offer copy/mod, and use the Marketplace for gifting. Customers get the best of all options that way, and storeowners are not forced to use extra prims to supply both options (the no copy/trans option highly devaluing the item for the giftee anyway)
