  1. Maitreya weren't going to hang on to their current market share if they didn't update at some point. They have to put something new out in order to remain relevant, and since people have been whining about the shoulders forever that seems an obvious fix. It's not like 5.3 is going to vanish overnight from anyone's inventory, the minority who need to buy brand new clothing every week switched to Legacy years ago, and anyone stomping their feet about possible discontinuation of support for an eight-year-old mesh needs to give their Catwa head a wobble. (I also would have expected a new UV map, but judging by what happened to Slink there's no real enthusiasm for the idea among skin creators so it would have been a waste of time. I also personally prefer having Petite as an add-on as it makes it easier to switch between standard and petite fits, but, like I said, nobody's removing my current setup so it's fine.)
  2. My next-door neighbour has not one but two elephants roaming her yard. I suppose they are social animals so it would be cruel if there were just one. (Also, my garden is on a slope, so when I abandon this place I suspect it is staying on the land page forever, lol.)
  3. I also went with Buffalo Pastures: : That's the view as you come in: the right-hand side behind the kitchen is walled off and divided into a bathroom and a snug, while the left-hand door leads to a large nursery: The library is at the bottom of the stairs: Admittedly the den is a bit poky, and by the time I've added coving I will have no prims left, but I am just no good at open-plan. (I briefly added an en-suite to the upstairs bedroom but decided that was too many extra walls even for me and put in a closet instead.)
  4. Which is fine, because its target market doesn't wear anything else. I never understood why Legacy has an 'Athletic' version for its male body but not for its female one. Either way, they don't, so skins and overlays are where it's at.
  5. I visited Luna a month or two ago. It looked to me like they had some kind of lottery as to who initially got the shops and that was kind of it, forever; no attempt at keeping in touch with the winners or finding new tenants for abandoned units. Interesting, but clearly a failed experiment. It would certainly make sense to include commercial units as part of the PP package (and pop them on an island near the new welcome areas?) but there would need to be some kind of oversight to prevent the same thing happening again and I'm not sure LL have the resources to do that.
  6. I also think those windows look Georgian...
  7. Yeah, my EGL av has been around since waaay before mesh and I still remember many of the old brands fondly (CanalGrande! LicoLico! RMK! Umi Usagi! Silent Sparrow before she switched to making plushies!). Ambrosia are still around and rigging for Maitreya, and nekotron have some cute things, but I can't think of any others that haven't been mentioned.
  8. Alts are not supposed to enter, no, and if you win they may want to use your RL identity for promotional purposes. And as with any prize draw they're legally obliged to make winners' names available on request.
  9. The Newbrooke patios. Basically, it's easier for residents to make their own paved areas on empty lawn/sand than it is to cover up an existing paved area they don't want.
  10. 'Show friends only' is my friend.
  11. I don't think they want noobs near the Galaxy. It's old and it looks it.
  12. Because if they moved to an island, they wouldn't have all the fun of teleporting randoms home and screaming about how much they hate vehicle users. That's how they choose to enjoy SL and who are we to argue?
  13. I've sailed across to it from Bellisseria a couple of times; it doesn't work as a community area precisely because it's a museum piece completely out of keeping with the shiny new mesh everywhere else on the continent(s). But it needed water around it and so did Bellisseria, therefore the two got smooshed together. I kind of like what Drivers of SL have been doing on their recent drives, where they direct you to some janky mainland shop or cafe and then TP you to a nicer-looking version somewhere else. That could be a possibility for infohubs and other Linden properties. Ride the rollercoaster at Hairy Hippo Fun Land and then go through a portal that takes you to Merrymount. Or vice versa.
  14. True, which is why I called them on their attempt to do it If they hadn't been trolling, they wouldn't have flounced.
  15. We're talking about the best way to preserve existing infrastructure, whether that's to keep it in its original location even though the surrounding builds may now make it look weird and outdated, or to move it somewhere else (like the SS Galaxy) that looks a bit more like its original context. That's absolutely on topic with any discussion on how to improve mainland. (You're going to need a few more than three posts before you can get away with roleplaying as a moderator, btw.)
  16. Yeah, restricting to premium accounts or even payment method used would probably work; but they'd still have to pay someone to set up the program and manage the volunteers, and I'm not convinced anyone at LL cares enough about Mainland to sink any more resources into it. We're always getting told that regions are too expensive for us to have nice things like protected water around all the continents, so I never really understood why they don't attempt to consolidate existing mainland into a smaller area. I can only assume that, as with the original Linden homes, it's more cost-effective to leave all that abandoned land alone than go through the hassle of removing or repurposing it.
  17. Yes, this is me. I don't have the people skills to be a mentor and I don't have the building or scripting skills to be a Mole, but I could manage basic land maintenance and improvement, as I imagine a lot of residents could. It's difficult to see how any kind of volunteer program would work in terms of trusting people with build permissions, though, since I can't see how they could be 100% sure you weren't a griefer before letting you loose.
  18. This, but for Plus. 512 parcels separated by Linden walkways, a covenant with a minimum height for skyboxes and some other basic etiquette (no rentals, no sandboxes, no full bright 'privacy' fences, limited breedables). Basically like the old Linden Homes continent, but you get to place your own house/skybox/shop. Put these estates on currently empty inland regions and do not allow parcels to be resold or purchased by Premium users, only abandoned back to Governor Linden to be set to sale to another Plus subscriber. It'd be a halfway house between madlands and Bellisseria and bring some of those vast tracts of abandoned land back into use.
  19. Because the warm fuzzy feeling of helping them retain signups is supposed to be sufficient compensation for doing their job for them? Presumably they're hoping that this framing will attract a better class of candidate than 'come and do this job which we do not think is sufficiently important to actually pay anyone to do, so don't expect any kind of meaningful support in doing it'.
  20. Why would you even want to buy their products after they blocked you? They evidently don't want your money, there's not going to be any support if things go awry, and I can't believe there's anything left in SL that's so niche you can only get it in one shop.
  21. My guess was that all the landscaping/building moles you'd expect to be putting together a new Linden Home theme would probably get diverted to prepping the birthday itself; would be good to be proved wrong, though.
  22. I think NUX avatars are more likely to be launched than PP+ homes, since we have at least seen prototypes of those...
  23. If you were happy with Hourglass there's always Belleza Freya (it's discounted now, and some of your existing wardrobe probably has Freya fits included) , though Reborn is growing in popularity and is the better option for new clothing.
  24. n'thing Cog & Fleur; Poison Rouge have some nice hats; and in the meantime there is a steampunk avatar with mesh clothing in your inventory library (her name is Abigail). I'd start with one of the group gift hairs from Sintiklia, though if you did want to splash out Magika have a 40% sale on this weekend.
