  1. Why should anyone be that? When I do go to a store inworld, I want to shop there, period. And if the door is closed but the vendors are active, of course, I'd use these vendors to buy stuff. No matter what some signs say.
  2. Why should ANY superstitious practice be "simply and quietly accepted"? And putting a sign out stating that the shop is closed for "Sabbath" and requesting that people don't buy there during that time, is simply shoving one's superstitious beliefs into the faces of anybody else.
  3. In my home in SL, I usually play this stream: https://laut.fm/ultradarkradio
  4. I disagree on the first and third point. But the second point: Yes, the official viewer is crappy. Has been since Viewer 2.x. 😠 But when I created an alt last year to test the newbie learning place, I was impressed. Not over- nor underwhelmed, but in my opinion, LL did a good job in tutoring the basic functions of the viewer, like moving, camming, and so on. However, when I started with my first avatar in 2008, the Learning sim was more fun - you went through a forest, entered a castle, learned to make a snapshot on the way, and so on. And it took me LESS than half an hour to "get" the viewer back then. Maybe that was because I didn't have any 3D game experience before at all, I don't know. And about the learning curve for the basic mechanics being too high? Who the heck are you kidding? Okay, with the current official viewer, it is a bit complex and sometimes not very clear - and if you have inventory, chat, and build menu open, your interface is way more cluttered by all these dark layers than in the interface of Cool VL Viewer, for example - but it's nothing that can't be learned in a short time with a bit patience and the will to learn it.
  5. No. Just no. Not at all. In my opinion, this kind of people is neither wanted nor needed in SL. There are too many mindless gamers in here already. I rather think the kind of people we need to "recruit" are the creative ones: The artists of all sorts, the creators, the kind of people who are able to create their own place, their own fun, their own entertainment here within this world. I even think just advertising SL as a game (like, via Google Ads, or via Steam) has been very unfortunate.
  6. Like, moving your avatar with the arrow keys, and flying with Page Up or Down? Where's the problem to figure that out? Actually, the Newbie Islands and Community Gateways where the newbies arrive do explain these controls in detail Actually, the interface once WAS intuitive. Back then in Viewer 1.x! Which is also the reason why I would recommend everyone to try out FS in Phoenix Mode (aka "Vintage"), or the Cool VL Viewer. ETA: I think the most significant number of newbies are leaving pretty fast after their first login because SL is not a VIDEO GAME. There are no quests to run (ok, except Linden Realms), no Boss to fight, no experience points to win, no levels to gain - it's a virtual world where everything's up to the user.
  7. I have had this in my profile for quite a long time: And yet, whenever I am at places like HBC or MD, people regularly approach me and ask if I would accept them as sub. 😲
  8. I don't know, I can run Firestorm plus 2x CoolVL Viewer parallel, plus having15 tabs in Firefox open plus Thunderbird, plus transform a video using Handbrake - and still get around 30 fps on each of the viewers without any crashes. And my desktop box is assembled of rather low-budget components.

    PTSD

There is also a place that deals with PTSD - and tries to show people how veterans with PTSD may feel after returning home. It has also a skybox to calm down, and offers lots of RL support phone numbers. Just look for PTSD in the "Places" search, you may find it there (if it still exists -- I wasn't there for a while, so I don't know for sure). ETA: I just was shortly in that Mall at CDP PTSD1, and it's very different to how it was a year or two ago when I visited that place last time. Obviously, it now works with "experiences", and I haven't found support call numbers or calming skyboxes.
  10. Hello, I'm Thorine (okay, ThorinII, but I changed to a female avatar quite some time ago). In Real Life, I'm 50 years old, early retired, and a hobbyist writer and part-time interpreter. I do have a few stories published on Amazon (via KDP); and sometimes, I draw illustrations to my stories and stuff. Anyways, before my early retirement due to chronic depression, I worked in several branches and in several regions, mostly as a temp worker. Fun fact: My display name Thorine is indeed a legit - though rare - Norwegian female name.
  11. I can read a lot of fonts (even Kurrent) - but when a font is hardly recognizable within SL, or even shows as blocks, I simply "can't read" it. ?
  12. I'm curious: Why don't you want to use a more readable font? When I can't read a fancy display name, I usually greet the person "wearing" it with "Hello unreadable". ?
  13. I lost a bet to my daughter, so I have to stay in a CC Drone Suit for a few hours... ?
  14. On my first account, I joined in March 2008. That makes me 10y 7mo old. This account here is my second account, I created it on Jan 15, 2017.
  15. Sometimes, when I have nothing to do, I get silly: Person: waves Me: /me watches the waves go by no further response ?
  16. (copied from my offline email inbox, name redacted) I got that, too. ? But of course, I declined.
  17. I worked in several jobs in several branches - but I've been early retired because of chronic depression since 2013. My major hobby is writing (some finished stories are available on Amazon and other platforms), and sometimes I earn some side-money as a freelance interpreter (German/English)
  18. I have it enabled at all times, even on my cheap laptop. Otherwise, my shiny Latex outfits (and those of my girls, and of others I meet), wouldn't appear shiny at all. ?
