  1. I thought it told you you’re blocked when you try to IM them on firestorm? It’s been so long since I’ve been blocked maybe I’m making that up. I do remember trying to get the last word in and got a blocked message before though.
  2. Now that I think about it, this is one of the reasons I stopped with the Skype thing a while back. Too many morons saying, “you don’t look like your avatar Hurr Hurr.....” leading to the “What did you expect?” conversation which usually led to me ignoring their Skype calls and their im in SL.
  3. I am so tickled by this idea, I just might do it. It’ll tickle me even more when people don’t understand....cause I’m twisted like that!
  4. I don’t, but that’s because I change skins and heads often. I tend to favor “interesting” heads, so no I don’t look like RL me. I have before but it was by accident and I changed it after about a week. I have run into “my avi looks like me!” people. I think they are a very small minority on SL. It’s a philosophy choice I think. Most people are exploring aspects of themselves in a virtual world. Those people are themselves exploring a virtual world. It’s a different mindset.
  5. What’s an evolution mesh avi? is it the “modular” one where you can swap out body parts? Like boobs and butt? If it is, you’ll be wearing applier clothes. I don’t think she has a dev kit either, so you can’t make your own mesh clothes.
  6. On a side note do those stores that made really good prim shoes back in the day like Deborah’s still exist? Even on MP?
  7. The trick is finding something you can respond to and just keep it going. you didn’t think this forum was for serious discussions did you?
  8. Yeah, that’s pretty much how it works. I think I’ll change mine to advanced members too.
  9. Phil, what you’re talking about is something different entirely. There are a couple things to keep in mind though. The first thing is a lot of women’s clothing in secondlife is made skimpy and revealing. Yesterday I bought a pair of mesh leggings that give you a bigger butt and had a wedgie option. This was a major designer that a lot of women buy from. So I’m not even talking about fetish clothes here. The second is again, it depends on where you’re from and what your opinion of a whore looks like. I remember about a month back someone asked for a skin that didn’t have makeup on it because it made her look like a whore. Everybody that looked at the picture didn’t even notice it HAD makeup at all. But to answer your question, which bee tee dubz Sounds a lot like “she had on that outfit, she was asking for it” defense rapists try to use. I’m not calling you a rapist, just that it’s a very slippery slope there. I’m not even going there with the panty thing. But to answer your loaded question: how you dress doesn’t necessarily make you anything. The reason why? Do a pair of tight jeans make a woman a *****? Leggings? Makeup? Too much makeup? How much is too much? When is a skirt too short? Should I wear a one piece or a two piece bikini? Which one is the least *****ty. If you asked 20 different people on SL, you’d get 20 different answers. The easiest thing to do is talk to them? Maybe you’re hanging out on a sim with whores? I don’t think “Hey, wanna f**k?” is a good opener anyway.
  10. I think that’s what’s going to end up happening. They got everybody all riled up with this. Everybody is calling senators and congressmen who will pass a regulation that’s worse than removing net neutrality ever would’ve been. These guys are playing chess here and this is stage one.
  11. I think it depends on where you live, occupation and lifestyle too. I’ve known RL women that played SL in the day and danced at night. I also used to work at a Big Box store, doing orders for contractors. Let me tell you, some of the things contractors say and do are just like some of the wackiest, shameless things a man can say to you on SL, but for real. But then again I live in a major east coast city, some woman in the Midwest probably never experienced things, I wouldn’t even bat an eye at, because they happen so often.
  12. I wouldn’t say it’s looked at as bad. Most people I’ve ever talked about it with seem either confused or indifferent about it. When you tell people you can actually make money there, that raises some eyebrows. When you tell them what’s involved you lose them again. LL did a really bad job of showing people what was possible in SL so you ended up with a lot of people that don’t even know how to do the most basic things. And the bad is really easy to find. Like the saying goes: an idle mind is the devils playground. Im assuming OP means some kind of article by bad reputation. There’s tons of bad articles about SL. The thing you have to realize is a lot of the writers only are on SL for a limited time. I’ve been here for 8 years and am still learning things about SL. The other day I met someone that couldn’t put on Slink hands or use an applier. It took two hours to help her get it right. How long has she been on SL? 9 years. Some people just don’t get it, then there are people that are on SL and STILL don’t get it.
  13. It’s going to get passed regardless. The move people should be making is how to get it reversed. This guy is a corporate puppet; he doesn’t care about how many petitions or letters get sent out. Going to have to do better than that.
  14. Wow......never heard of that, but! I know what to lookout for now!
  15. I’ve never even thought about it that way. I can’t really add much more than what has been said so far because there are certain aspects a virtual life just can’t relay. The best analogy I can give is it’s probably most like having 20/20 vision (being a woman in real life) and being extremely near sighted (being a male with a female avi). If you’re doing it to understand women better, I could see it being helpful. But it’s still not the same. You might get a sense how other guys can be creepy. But it’s not the same as a guy really touching you inappropriately or a guy following you on your way somewhere. To use a nicer example: You might get a sense of what it feels like to feel pretty with trying on new hair, different makeup and nails and shoes. Doing that everyday doesn’t compare to going to get a mani/pedi or a spa day once every couple of months or a new hairstyle you know makes you look super cute. So you get a taste of the feels, just not even close to a day in the life.
  16. For me, it doesn’t matter that much to me who’s behind the avatar. What really matters to me is whatever that person is putting out there, is it something I want to be around? That’s the fundamental question I ask myself with every interaction I have in SL. If the answer is no, then it doesn’t matter who they are behind the avatar anyway and that’s 99.9% of SL anyway. Maybe that’s a little naive or idealistic, I don’t know. Maybe it’s actually really harsh. I’m always friendly and open to meeting new people. Due to the inception like quality of Second Life, you can drive yourself crazy trying to distinguish someone’s real life from second life, what’s the truth, what’s a lie, whether someone is being for real or not. So I really don’t try. I just go off the energy they’re giving me. Do I get curious about people sometimes? Of course it’s human nature. I have a guy friend, I’m convinced is a female in real life. But I’ll never ask him that. Why? Because whoever that is, decided to be the guy I talk to when I’m online. Guess what? I’m ok with that. I think the OP hit on something when he said NPCs, even if it was unintentional. I think a lot of people on SL see everybody but themselves as an NPC. Because they normally can’t see you or touch you, you aren’t real. Sometimes people will try to treat you like you aren’t real. That’s why I mainly deal with people that give off that vibe that I’m real too.
  17. Uh-oh.....I tried to stop you from becoming an addict. Now it’s too late....welcome!
  18. This is going to sound weird from me, but....stick with the head you have for now. This is coming from a girl that has all of the major heads, in some case two or three of them. Skins can make a big difference in how a head looks. Also, over time make small tweaks to the head. I find you tend to make the heads look better over time, until you absolutely wow yourself with the right head/skin combo. Live in it a while I say!
  19. I think you did a really good job of upgrading yourself! The outfits will come in time, no need to rush. Also there’s a whole bunch of stores for you to discover.
  20. That’s a minimum 15k custom. Those Tudor bustles were huge! That kind of costume has to be a rigging and modeling nightmare.
  21. Got anymore pics? I’m not quite sure what you mean here.
