  1. I agree, I would love the opportunity to be a mentor and I think many others would too.
  2. I have no problem with places like bay city being super costly, as they are more about buying into the social group than just having land. I think my issue is with the fact that much of mainland is empty or abandoned and yet random lots are being priced super high and vulnerable new residents are getting tricked into paying top dollar for no good reason.
  3. I am liking this new option - gonna see when people is peepin.
  4. Tell you wife to get an RLV compatable viewer. Then that guy really can steal her. In fact, there are whole sims dedicated to kidnap related roleplay, so maybe this could be the opportunity to get involved a whole new play experience.
  5. I have sent you a landmark - perhaps visit Raglan Shire, a good place to make friends.
  6. Apologies if this has already been put in a topic, as its regarding a blog post from a week back, but i had a hunt around and couldnt locate one similar. I just wanted to say that I was pleased to see the Blog post by April Linden that explained, in some detail, the issues that troubled the grid a week back, that her team was trying to deal with. It is lines of communication like these that are all too rare these days and its refreshing to see a frank and open explanation like that which talks directly to the residents and that includes us in ownership of the grid. It's a good thing and I wanted to thank her for taking the time to explain things like that. 7. I just had similar issues and had to remove the viewer and do a clean install. The first strange thing was that it triggered the update half way through loading my avatar in world, rather than before reaching the login screen. After that it was doing the "abort, retry, ignore" for files it seemed unable to update, one of which was the crash log file. On an uninstall, the uninstaller was picking up added files it didnt recognise in the folder, which presumably was the failed attempt at the update. Clean install seemed to have no issues, though i note the recent change to the group messages box has been reverted back to the old style.
  8. You would have loved wootstock, which we had at raglan shire recently. Peace out and pass the waffles, man!
  9. "Show names temporarily" is quite a good choice, i have found. That way you can see them when they are useful.
  10. It can be that these only open when you have such an item, so i sent you a texture and a notecard to kickstart them. Hope it fixes the issue. Lost and Found definitely only appears when something is sent to it. Mine comes and goes, depending on whether it has anything in it.
  11. Well, there is quite a lot that can be done by a provider. I would suggest some form of authentication system, such as an email authenticator which sends a "yes/no" permission request if an account logs on from an unfamiliar network. Putting that in place is likely a lot less bother than dealing with the chaos that is caused by account theft and account retrieval.
  12. As someone who is familiar with MMO and online games, i have seen account thefts. Virtual items and money has a lot of value and games companies release authentication programs, keyrings or phone calls to keep people's accounts in their rightful hands. This largely was not an issue in second life, perhaps because of its age and lack of visibility or "easy money". Perhaps because it has a more adult population than many MMO's and gamer communities. However, in the last few months that seems to have changed. As a citizen of Raglan Shire, I have seen several tinyfolk suddenly start posting phishing links - things that pretend to be marketplace login pages and that ask you to input your details. I have seen a lot of this recently and considering many people leave their payment details online and that we can simply order more linden dollars by clicking a button on screen....its a perfect target. Sadly, someone finally worked that out and is going after accounts en masse. Its extremely upsetting when it happens, not to mention potentially financially disastrous. It isnt something that second lifers are well prepared for and i do not think the lab is making people aware as it could. So i`m posting here just to get a conversation started and to raise awareness. This isnt the usual "omg you equip this item and it takes your stuff" scare that arrives in groupchat from time to time, this is very real and currently a major concern. At the very least, take your payment details off your account and change your password if you havent in the last half year. Dont click strange links and dont type info into any login page except one you bring up yourself. Please keep safe out there and educate friends where you can.
  13. I volunteer to check any such suspicious moneys - simply send them to me and i shall attempt to spend them on furniture, shoes and expensive 3d art. If i am unsuccessful, then that confirms the linden dollars are suspicious and they will be disposed of in a controlled manner.
  14. Well, so long as I finally get a surname, i`m happy.
  15. Having a good AO is crucial, i recommend the KH Divers AO. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/KH-Divers-AO/2536219?
  16. Solved my problem - I was getting this in fanci deeps blake sea sims. Thanks Theresa.
  17. Usually with copied objects, its hard to trace the person doing it, as the objects end up all over the place. A whole sim, though.....surely that should be easily traced. I had a friend who was paid to design sims, sometimes by people like anshe chung, so i can certainly see there is value to such things.
  18. The best step to avoiding the need to tell people things is to be open about them before they are asked. The best way to do that is to put it in your profile, as that's what decent second life users will examine first before talking to you. I`m a man in real life, for example, but my avatars are female. At first I didn't really mention it as I figured it didn't matter who I was behind the keyboard, but over time I grew to appreciate the complex nature of second life and how it is important to give people an idea of who you really are, both in pixel form and "typist" form. My profile now notes "Female avatar, but I am male in real life", at the end of my description. People do read this and I get comments about it from time to time, but thus far every comment has been positive. If someone doesn't like it, well, they probably keep away, but I have found that breaching the subject early on in this way encourages and empowers people to approach me comfortably (for them and myself). Second lifers tend to be quite a tolerant bunch. We have everything in our communities from talking cartoon ponies to BDSM Dominant types and there are also a great many vanilla folks out there who are human avatars just online to chat about their taste in music or sport. A lot of people come to second life to express themselves as they feel they truly are and this means that there are child avatars, gender switched avatars, furries, dragons and folks in wheelchairs or who look like famous characters. This is one of the reasons that second life continues to be so popular today. Be open, consistent and let your profile speak true and you will likely find that you are not alone. Others of a like mind or with similar real life issues will approach you and you may find them a valuable source of support.
  19. A lot depends on the land barons and what they do. If the larger barons make the leap to the new second life, then they will likely abandon their holdings in the old one, so that they are not in direct competition with themselves. It will become in their interest for second life to shut down, so that their customers move with them. If the new platform is popular, then the barons will have to move anyway, triggering the above process. Basically, once a decent new version of second life appears, the old one will die pretty fast.
  20. Supernatural phenomena in second life is quite an interesting topic - a bit like minecraft where people said they could see the ghost of the creator's brother in the distance. Tell us more of these mysteries!
  21. I have one of those plank items, I`ll send you one.
  22. This makes me quietly hopeful that second names will be put back on the table. None of us bought the explanation that it couldn't be done, especially as some sites were still granting them at the time that was said. If Ebbe manages to get them back I think it would be an enormous source of positive feeling towards his new status. As to Jira, they were a valued way of residents expressing issues that were important to them as well as being used for their actual purpose of recognising and fixing first life bugs and issues. If they returned, that would be a good thing all round.
  23. I had this effect hit me the other day and I too recognised it to be the invisiprim effect, but I knew I wasn't wearing such a thing. I am at a loss as to what is triggering it, but it does seem that some alpha effects are now acting like this when near one another, just like invisiprims used to.
