  1. I have a Vic. What I did was just wander around the Vic regions aimlessly until I found landscaping I liked, wrote down the stores and item names and ran off to see how much they cost. I always check LI first because I don't want to throw money at something that uses up too much of my limit. I use Botanical's brick pathway kit to fill in that annoying empty space between the public sidewalk and my front steps. I use a mix of flowers, ivy, and grasses from Heart, The Looking Glass and Love. TLG and Love are almost always in weekend sales. Love's LODs can sometimes be annoying though, so if you like to look at a distance view, you might not like that. I have some fairly lanterns from Disorderly and a fountain from Dust Bunny (I had to use 11 LI for that fountain and it's so triangle heavy, but it matches perfectly with my Vic). I don't have any trees out currently because I ran out of LI, and trees aren't all that important to me in the Vic area (moles have provided plenty). Right now all of my landscaping is at the front of my house because I am terrible at linking to save LI. As long as the front is cute, I'm good.
  2. I'm looking for a hair that goes with that Timothee Chalamet skin that Not Found put out at Skin Fair. The ad pic looks like a morph, so I don't think an exact duplicate exists in world. I like the loose curls with a few dangling over the forehead, but I've not found anything yet (searched for both male and female hairs). I know Analog Dog does curls, but her textures don't quite work for this look. No.Match didn't really have anything either. Any suggestions?
  3. My male alt is much more similar to the Chris Hemsworth photo than it is any of the choices provided. I like lean muscles. I tell my fiance (RL--obsessed with going to the gym) all the time that I don't want a balloon animal.
  4. I also organize my inventory by date. I do periodic purges, so I will return to the older folders to see if I'm ready to delete stuff. That way I can easily know what the newest stuff is since it's in folders labeled 2022. The only exception to that policy is for folders for favorite brands. For example, in hair I have Truth, Doux, Magika, etc. folders that aren't broken down by date because I still wear those hairs frequently. I made a folder labeled "goofy hair" as well because it comes in handy for theme contests and what not. My clothing folder also has a sub folder for favorites, broken down by store name. In those store name folders, I've labeled all the sub types (tops, bottoms, dresses, etc.), but I don't have them broken down by date because even older Ison stuff is still awesome stuff. I just recently started adding an asterisk to folder names for items I have actually paid for vs freebies I've picked up. This will help me later on when I'm on a purge binge because I'm more likely to keep purchased items as opposed to freebies.
  5. That's a rabbit hole I don't want to fall down: tiny hands, pinheads, cankles, watermelon/shelf butt, thin body with body mods showing fat rolls. I just keep my mouth shut although I want to shout, "PROPORTIONS, PEOPLE! PROPORTIONS!".
  6. If I'm particularly attached to a way I've dressed my avatar, I will log out after getting everything right and log back in. The logout/login method saves me from having to detach/reattach a bunch of different things. That means I will get dressed and logout/login before I teleport ANYWHERE. I learned that the hard way.
  7. My homes on the ground are in Belli, but I also have a skybox in Belli. I usually change clothes up there. I go to ground when I need a dose of pretty scenery. Before Belli came around, I would occasionally rent land or a skybox. Right after I joined SL I started buying up some mainland parcels as they came open because I wanted a bigger prim allowance. Eventually someone came along that wanted to build a resort and he offered me 20k linden for it. I took the money and ran. The resort failed.
  8. Isn't that what they did? Why can't they do both? "We intend to live up to this principle, and while there is much work to be done, we are starting with: Providing financial support for humanitarian crisis aid through a donation to the Red Cross Ukraine and HIAS Supporting independent journalism in Ukraine through a donation to Keep Ukraine’s Media Going Supporting free speech in Russia through a donation to Meduza and OVD-INFO"
  9. ^^^ I came here to post that. Y'all can stop bickering now and talk about cookies.
  10. I have my main and an alt with premium accounts. It took me quite a while to find what I consider to be my main's permanent Vic home (on a river, dead-end street, pretty bridges nearby, and a stone's throw from the sea), but I didn't play GoH to get it. I don't see myself leaving for Newbrooke. My alt has the stilt-on-pier at the northernmost point of stiltlandia. I'm not giving up that spot because it's a great place to sit and relax (and the neighbors are never home). I've had trads and logs, but they never really felt like home.
  11. But that's not what you wanted the bot to do in your initial post. A bot who is there to tell live human staff that someone has arrived is one thing. That can be done behind the scenes such that the visitor would never know it happened. I'm perfectly fine with that. I don't like anything being forced on me. Don't even get me started on those object packages for purchased things that have a script that pops up automatically asking if you want to subscribe to their subscribo. I've clicked Yes too many times on those things because I think the toast is asking me if I want to accept what I've purchased. Again, let the customer decide what they want. Don't force a bot's actions on them.
  12. I consider myself pretty good at inventory organizing, and I'd probably do it for payment. It's a pity it would be against TOS to let someone log into other people's accounts for that purpose. Another drawback would be knowing what to toss and what to keep. When I do an inventory purge, it takes hours to try on things (or look at pics and sometimes try on things AND look at pics), and that's just clothing. I need to log in now and do a purge of furniture and knick knacks. What I would pay someone to do would be finding someone who is an expert in linking objects to maximize prim allotments. I'm terrible at it. There are so many minute details to watch out for doing that. I always wind up linking such that the linked object takes up MORE LI than the unlinked objects. Yesterday, I was trying to modify a kitchen table (that WAS mod) to get rid of some parts of it that were ugly and annoying (and used up LI I needed for other things), but the creator had linked some of the decorations with the TABLE LEG of all things, and there was no way to unlink that piece. Designers, if you're going to create furniture with decorations on it, leave it so that if we don't like that ugly vase, we can just delete it. I couldn't even make it invisible or the table leg would also be invisible. /rant I dumped what was otherwise a cute table and went back to a one LI table from Apple Fall.
  13. I have a stilt on pier that is on the northernmost point of Belli's houseboat and stilt area (Cutlass Point to be specific). It's nothing but open sea looking out from my back deck, and nothing will be built out there. The neighbors aren't prone to putting up really ugly out of character stuff like they are on land either. It was a really lucky draw for me when I was house-hunting. I don't really like stilts on water or on land for aesthetic reasons. I don't like sand. I've never owned a houseboat or wanted one. When I owned a trad, there were houseboats directly beside my trad, and they just do not appeal to me. The Victorians are my favorite, especially on water, and the stilt on pier second. I tried a log home once and got bored with it very quickly. I doubt I will try fantasy or chalets or the newest homes unless it's just to grab the landscaping packs.
  14. Yeah, don't. If I get spammed every time I land in a store/club by a bot, I'm going to mute/derender/block at will. As someone else has pointed out above, if the store/club is good, I will make my own LM. I don't need to be greeted by a bot immediately. I don't need to be invited to a group by a bot immediately. I don't need to be handed notecards by a bot immediately. Just let us check the place out in peace. If I keep getting the same crap every time I land somewhere, I'm going to quit shopping or visiting. If I'm new to a club, I'd much rather be greeted a human, even if they're using scripted messages.
  15. This show literally had my jaw drop. There are some absolutely stunning designs in this show which I wouldn't mind being replicated in SL.
  16. Legacy updating? That's laughable. They can't even give out fingernail dev kits. Between Legacy and Genus, we've got a subset of mesh makers who only pop up every 3 years and dangle a carrot. Once they collect a decent amount of lindens, they disappear into the ether again.
  17. A few quibbles: 1) "These are digital items, they cost you nothing to produce, stock, or send." Items in SL DO have production costs, namely upload fees and photo costs (for vendor ads). If a store uses templates, there's a cost to purchase those templates. Designers who create their own items also have the expense of whatever software they use to create (Blender, just one example). Any person who is seriously into running an SL business will incur costs to do so. Time is money, as they say, so if a designer spends 8-10 hours (or more--rigging is HARD yo) on a complicated product, they are well within their rights to include that in the cost of their products. Most stores also use a vendor system, so they incur a cost to purchase CasperVend or MD or whatever other vendor system is available. Maybe a creator pays someone to write scripts for them, therefore another cost incurred. LL does not charge for booth space at Shop & Hop, so that's basically the only free part of it. I believe LL requires a minimum of 20% off in order to participate in S&H too. If you know for sure someone is selling full-price items at S&H, report them. 2) "There's no nice way to say this, but *****wear is *****wear. It all looks the same. It's not new, creative, or original most of the time. You'll do far better with something elegant, something creative, something that doesn't leave everything hanging out. Don't be the low hanging fruit." *****wear is certainly NOT my preferred aesthetic. The thing is that *****wear DOES sell, or it would not be so prevalent in world. There IS demand for it. The Kupra body wouldn't be as popular as it is without the *****wear market. You cannot swing a dead cat at any clothing event without finding dozens of stores catering to that aesthetic. The cost for a booth at most of these events is pretty outrageous, so Store ABC might be paying 5000L-20000L for a booth at Event XYZ (just throwing out a range; I do not know the going rate for event booths, but they are usually in the thousands). If Store ABC sells *****wear at events, you can bet your bippy those clothes will sell at Event XYZ because no store owner is going throw lindens away on a booth where they don't make a profit. I was just griping to myself today looking at Seraphim that a certain store that has really adorable clothes insists on creating skirts where the panties/crotch is hanging out or the boobs are hanging out. I would spend SO much money at that store if l could keep my naughty bits covered, but obviously this store is not hurting for customers who like that aesthetic. Some people just don't want to be elegant in SL. They like being low-hanging fruit (or genitals, as it were), and that's ok. I have my go-to stores, for whom I'm very grateful. Clothing created from templates must also sell fairly well or the stores that use them wouldn't be in events either. 3) As for telling stores to go back to making clothing for the system bodies: it's NOT going to happen on a large scale. A few stores are putting some effort into creating BOM clothing again. They won't be going back to the old "standard sizing" method used in the pre-mesh period. I do agree about LODs. In fact, I wish every creator would pay more attention to LOD. My biggest gripe about S&H stores it that many of them focus so much on extravagantly decorating their allotted space, to the point where I struggle to find what they're selling. I get it that S&H is a holiday-focused event, and pretty decorations are nice, but I don't want to wait several minutes for everything to rez, just to discover it's something in which I have no interest. If the decorations are not sold by that store, I can just mouseover the items and find the creator so I can go shop there later. Second biggest gripe is people who go to S&H dressed to the nines, wearing animesh pets, and generally lagging the joint down. I was cruising along quite nicely in one region yesterday, and then one person showed up with vomit-inducing ARC and wearing enough scripts to carry in a wheelbarrow. I had to rush through and escape to the next region to get away from them.
  18. I started out, like most noob residents, using only freebies. First image is my first avi pic from 2008. FFS, system hair was AWFUL. I don't even want to know what I was wearing. Pic was taken outside Free Dove, back when it was a tiny building. Second image is still from 2008. I was always a redhead, and I used Sirena hair almost exclusively (did toy around with Gurl6 but I didn't much care for their hair). I was obsessed with that purple chair and purple tree. When I lived with only freebie clothes, I was pretty casual. After I started spending money, I went ham on flexi stuff. I never met a ballgown I didn't like, and I was still a redhead. (Bonus points if you recognize the Omega Point sim) Don't ask me what this phase was about. Eventually I settled into my current blonde state and spending most of my lindens at Ison.
  19. I don't make resolutions. I should make at least one though: to not allow ice storms into my life. *sigh*
  20. Kupra is what Kim K would look like if she had two (or three) butts. There's no way she could wear RL designer fashions with a maxed out Kupra rump. Trend I dislike immensely (hate is too strong of a word): Boobs and crotches hanging out, especially the unzipped pants/shorts phase SL seems to be in now. People, I don't want to see your pubes in general rated areas (and that also seems to be a burgeoning trend, pubes). I also dislike cartoonish physics (realistic ones are fine). I sometimes swear a region is having an earthquake when a squishy, watermelon-boobed avatar arrives, and her tatas bounce even when she's standing perfectly still. That reminds me of that scene from Porky's II: The Revenge wherein teenage girl Wendy agrees to a date with sleazy city commissioner Gebhardt at a classy restaurant and shows up in wearing enormous falsies filled with fake vomit. I hear that sloshing sound every time I see someone using those overblown physics. Dislike: Stores that put all of the good textures in a 2000L+ fatpack and the ugliest textures in the single items. It's a cash grab, pure and simple, and I refuse to succumb to it. Trend I like: Hair stores offering complete fatpacks for one reasonable price instead of selling separate color packs with one lousy "variety" pack that usually doesn't have the good colors in it. Ditch the separate extra-cost style HUDs and just offer the whole kit and caboodle for one price (thank you, Magika and Exile!). Like: Ison's new color pack system (cool, warm, mystic, neutrals) is pure genius. Participating in FLF and TSS with discounted packs means I pretty much buy anything he puts out. If any one store can personify my own style profile for my avatar it's Ison.
  21. I used to have a MySpace page (yeah, I'm dating myself with that). I lost EVERYTHING after the mass exodus, including a lot of damn fine blogs and photos that I was stupid enough NOT to save offline. Yes, I was pissed off for a time, but then I shrugged after allowing one hour to be angry and moved on with my life. I had a free website on an ISP when I lived with my Mother. When I moved away, I lost that free host. My html code was saved on a 3.5" floppy. I cannot access any of that now. Again I shrugged and moved on with my life. HTML is old news, and all of my hard work creating mouseover graphics is positively primitive now. For the most part the internet is ephemeral, like fairy dust. I don't see any point in getting overly attached to it.
  22. I'd specifically like to ask Jian to offer their animesh pets as avatars, preferably at a slightly lower price point than Rezz Room or Zooby.
  23. My thoughts on Shop & Hop events in general: I like them, and if I have time I will usually cruise the entire mall, pick up gifts, make a list of items I want to buy, and then I'll come back a few days later to make purchases. If I don't have time, I will find the SLURLs to the stores I want to visit and ignore the rest. My only real complaint is that I wish they would create sections specifically for clothing stores, furniture stores, etc. This was particularly the case for Christmas. I think the Christmas decor stores should have had their own region(s). While I can see the logic of making it a mixed bag so people would be exposed to the decor stores while they were looking for clothing bargains, I just find it kind of irritating to wait for the stalls to rez only to find out it's stuff I don't want to buy. If clothing/jewelry (or just avatar-related items in general) were in a particular wing, and decor/buildings/vehicles/plants/landscaping were in another, I'd find that a lot more user-friendly.
  24. As for Marketplace, I rarely use it. As others have said, a lot of it is garbage from 2008 (or earlier). I've noticed some stores will repeatedly remove and repost items for sale so that they show up as more recent additions, even when they're obviously really OLD things. As has also been mentioned, the search terms are such a complete failure that I can type in "Verne add-ons" for my Belli home and wind up with 2008 sex beds and flexi-hair on the list that pops up. Sometimes I will use MP to search and then go in-world to look and purchase. You can't tell LOD from MP. Sometimes you don't even get a prim count or land impact count on MP. I'm not spending my money on something I can't see when there's no demo.
