  1. I haven't seen any information from Linden Lab on this, so you'd have to ask them. I'm sure you'd need to have another full region in order to do so, since you can't own a homestead without also owning a full region.
  2. You're not. I talked with three people in my first year In SL, and those were hello exchanges with neighbors. I explored by looking for places with no green dots. Yet here I am, nearly 13 years in SL without a break.
  3. Get parent's debit card, buy linden dollars … now they can go to adult and moderate places. It's not a fix. This also isn't a question about Tilia. Do a feature request Jira ticket instead.
  4. Grandfathered regions aren't quite the deal they once were. The monthly maintenance fees for standard region and grandfathered were $295 and $195, respectively. That's $100 per month saving. The current maintenance fees are $229 and $179, so you're saving $50/month. That doubles the time to recoup the extra cost of buying a grandfathered region. It's still worth it if you're planning on keeping the region for long enough.
  5. OK, something more personal: Linden Lab is now being required by law to provide identification information for anyone who cashes dollars out of SL (such as into PayPal). It doesn't involve converting to Lindens to dollars so long as they are kept in your SL (soon to be Tilia) account. Only those people who take money out of SL have to provide identification. Again, this isn't what LL wants ... it's the law. They have no choice. It has nothing to do with the cost of premium going up. That was a continuation of Linden Lab's decision over a year ago to move more of the cost from land to other sources. If you wish to remain hidden in SL, all you have to do is not have LL move your dollars to an external account. The Tilia thing doesn't affect Linden dollars at all, whether buying them, selling them, or spending them.
  6. Under Concierge Support, Submit a Support Case (<- click on this), choose Land and Region for the Issue Type, then say what you want (change the region name from "x" to "y") in the field for describing the issue. I think it costs $50 to change the name.
  7. I went premium soon after joining and bought First Land. If I remember correctly it was L$512 for the 512 sqm, which at the time was a bargain. After a couple weeks I sold it to a neighbor and moved to Anshe's Dreamland, which at the time was a pretty big continent. There was water between parcels rather than paths ... the covenant required leaving water at your parcel edges. You could paddle a boat around and nobody bothered you though you were on somebody's parcel at all times (no common land). Within a year or two the continent broke up into pieces - people wanted islands rather than a continent. I was at Anshe's press conference that was griefed by flying "appendages". The conference was on Dreamland. If they'd bothered to lock down the regions it wouldn't have happened. Griefing was pretty common in 2006 and 2007. LL added the ability to do estate bans, probably with some pressure from Anshe. After that griefing on Dreamland regions went way down ... grief on one region and suddenly you weren't able to go to a big chunk of SL. Dropping the educational/nonprofit discount was a big deal in my part of SL. It was done around the beginning of the year, so there was no way for most institutions to be able to pay since budgets were generally set in the summer. Nonprofit Commons had 4 regions and was nearly surrounded by MacArthur Foundation regions and others. We (NPC) ended up with two regions and no neighbors at all. Finally, places that are gone: Aero Pines Park, 3D versions of Van Gogh paintings on Luctesa (forgot the name of the place), Deshima Station, Dresden Gallery, Forgotten City, Frank Lloyd Wright Museum, The City of Steelhead, Primtings Museum, Sala, the SL Shakespeare Company at the SL Globe Theatre, The Pillars of Hercules, Midnight Reflections. I tried to verify that none of these moved elsewhere, but search is down for me on Firestorm. Some old places remain, such as the SL Botanical Gardens, International Spaceflight Museum, Japan Tempura Island, Da Vinci Gardens, Svarga, The Lost Gardens of Apollo, Mount Everest and Grand Canyon.
  8. It was laggy at the start when the crowds were big, but it's not bad at all now.
  9. I thought perhaps people would have read the information more thoroughly and would have calmed down. But no, the sky is still falling, the aliens still invading, and a giant asteroid is about to destroy the planet. So much angst for something that's not really a big deal. Linden Lab is trying to keep SL going; if it goes away then so do they. LL says they needed to do this to avoid harming the SL economy. They're in a better position to know than any of us are, so give them a break. Go to this thread , in which the Lindens themselves are answering questions. Read the information at the top, and if you still have a question submit it in that thread.
  10. You can convert Lindens to dollars and not provide a bit of personal information so long as you don't then do a process credit to move the dollars to PayPal. When you do that, you do need to provide the information. Go back to about a third of the way down page 5 and read the FAQ LL provided in a post.
  11. Do you require one now? Someone who gets your SL password today would have the same ability.
  12. I agree. It's really simple: the rules changed. Linden Lab is now required to get identification information in order to process credit to someone. They could have continued to handle that in SL, but likely the law was worded in a way that leaving the money handling in SL could end SL. LL worked out a way around that, but they still have to get the identification. At least it's not all of us who have to do it. From the blog post: "We understand that there may be some questions and concerns about these new procedures, but these changes are required in order for Linden Lab to continue offering Second Life services without disruption to its economy." Think not being able to get money out of SL would hurt its economy?
  13. Who knows? Maybe the law requires them to keep quiet so the bad guys don't know about it (see Patriot Act). One of the Lindens hinted at it back when the furor over the process credit increase started. He said that it was costing LL more to process credits, and they might not be able to do process credits otherwise.
  14. Welcome to the reason they raised the process credit fee from 2.5% to 5%. It looks like the US Government has added some new requirements that would affect SL itself adversely if the money handling was kept with SL. I'd guess it meant requiring everyone to provide proof of identity ... the way out of it is to move that to another company that's only involved in the part the gov't cares about.
  15. All they have to do is point Tilia's logins to the same system they use to log into the SL website and SL itself.
  16. Per the FAQ: " As of August 1, 2019, Tilia assumes management of your account's U.S. dollar balance in the form of your Tilia account. Tilia also handles process credit requests and payments made from your Tilia account." If LL wants to split hairs finely enough, buying Lindens would involve Tilia because your payment is in dollars & Tilia holds those. However, also from the FAQ: "In order to stay in compliance with regulatory requirements, if you wish to process a credit then you must provide certain personal information to verify your identity, ..." So no identity requirement as long as you're not processing credit. Where did you see anything that said this?
  17. They're the old info hubs, such as Pooley, Ahern, Bear, Wengen and many others -- I usually end up at an adult one for some reason. I have 'fly on teleport' set, so I fly up 100 meters then teleport to someplace useful.
  18. I own land with no middleman and I didn't need to be premium to get it. Sure, it costs a little more ...
  19. Business imperatives greatly impact creativity among those who sell their creations. They're limited to creating things people will buy. Clothing makers seem to have become afraid to be different. What I see now in clothing is a lot of people following the herd. Fortunately, the home & garden side isn't quite as constrained. Other than business, there's a big part of SL that creates for the sake of creating. I don't see that the introduction of mesh has stifled their creativity at all, since they can choose to use it or not.
  20. This thread started out with creativity and has wandered more into creativity in items for sale. It's quite possible that some of the best creators in SL have never sold anything. SL is big and none of us will ever see most of it. I like mesh a lot, though its use in clothing isn't of much interest. I've ended up doing region-sized designs ... build over a period of several months, let it sit until a new idea pops up, bulldoze and start again. Mesh flowers and plants blow away all the old prim/flexi stuff. I'm still looking for good trees, but I've found a few that I'll use always and more that I'll use in areas where you can't see them from far enough to notice that they've turned triangular. I buy mesh components, such as castle walls, windows, paths, etc. that I can mix & match to make what I want. They're almost always full perm and have the information I need to make my own textures if necessary. I use both prims and mesh where each works best. Mesh has made it easier for me to create what I want, so I'd say it's helped my creativity.
  21. media_plugin_cef is part of the Chromium Embedded Framework (thus the 'cef') that all the SL viewers now use. It's installed along with the viewer, but it's possible that your antivirus software mistook it for malware and got rid of it. Check out this page https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/antivirus_whitelisting to get around the problem. I also invoke the name of @Whirly Fizzle since she knows far more than I do about this sort of thing.
  22. Odds are she's used an alt if she's been in SL. Going around as a Linden won't help you learn what it's like in SL. Also, there's a Meet the Lindens blog post out ... most of the Lindens covered in the post were residents of SL before they became Lindens.
  23. I've never needed to transfer money to PayPal. The bank lists the transaction as Paypal instant transfer - it goes through immediately.
  24. Maddy is over a decade younger than me, but I'm not sure that qualifies as youth. (Dropping some Maddy-bait: I'd say she's around 29.) As for badnic, I prefer "Allow me to introducing myself. I am Boris Badenov, world's greatest no-goodnik." SL is full of corrupted good ideas ... LL gives us a new thing and we twist it into something they never expected. Then again, not all of their ideas qualify as good ... maybe we made their ideas better.
