  1. If you can make a prim per sitting area (invisible on your bench) this VERY OLD script will work You would need one in each of the invisible prims (or cushions) on your bench. Rotation is listed at the top of the script. I have been using it for almost a decade. Came from a class long ago. Free to share. It may of course be outdated now, but it does still work LOL. Not a script person. AVsitter works great if you want to spend the lindens. This works if you do not. There are no adjustments features of course. // Sit script // If object is 0-0-0 rotation the position numbers below are vector POSITION=<0, -0.05, 0.0>; vector ROTAT = <0, 0 ,270>; string animation; default { state_entry() { llSetRemoteScriptAccessPin(-1923474209); // Sit location ROTAT *= DEG_TO_RAD; rotation quat = llEuler2Rot(ROTAT); llSitTarget(POSITION, quat); llSetSitText("Meditate"); } changed(integer change) { if (change & CHANGED_LINK) { if (llAvatarOnSitTarget() != NULL_KEY) { llRequestPermissions(llAvatarOnSitTarget(), PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION); } else { integer perm=llGetPermissions(); if ((perm & PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION) && llStringLength(animation)>0) llStopAnimation(animation); animation=""; } } } run_time_permissions(integer perm) { if (perm & PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION) { llStopAnimation("sit"); animation=llGetInventoryName(INVENTORY_ANIMATION,0); llStartAnimation(animation); } } }
  2. I have a fight with myself every time I think about this. On one hand I believe totally in freedom and creativity and well just about anything else as long as it doesn't infringe on someone's else's life or enjoyment etc. I guess what makes me shake my head the most is that some very well know designers have been using LOD4 for over four years. As per my screenshot it would be SO VERY EASY, just to choose "use LOD above" for level 2. That would help a lot and in most cases not raise the land impact. Most bloggers that I know have their LODS set a 4 automatically. I did for 8 years or so. NOW at 2 (I really don't personally believe it is is necessary to design for the lowest common denominator) I see some pretty iffy mesh and yes, disappearing hair and signs and such LOL. I can't in good conscious blog items that a lot of folks can't see. Part of my job as blogger is to show things I think people would like. There is also that blogging for the designers which I believe in heartily too. There becomes a fine line. Happily I have stayed away of all the blogger corrals and blog what I like and enjoy even when it is a review copy. The blogger part of the equation is important too and I was thinking about that this morning. What would happen if ALL the bloggers stopped blogging things that had to be at LOD 4 . That might make a few designers take note. There are PLENTY of WONDERFUL creators in second life who make good items with low arcs and good lods. People just need to really pay attention and TRY THE DEMOS. Name recognition is not as important as quality in my book. Time for wine! Later in the eve edit: I wanted to also reply to the "wonderful for all" idea. I respect eveyone's opinion. For me? I aim for the middle (hence the LOD 2 setting which often is much further away then needed so could be construed as 1.25 but not purposefully that). It ALSO isn't fair to the folks who have invested a fair amount of money in graphics cards and computers that can run SL well as well as bake Cycles in Blender (can be extremely time consuming on a mid level computer). If everyone built for LOD1 (some viewer defaults) that could easily make the land impact raise quite a bit OR make very simplistic (and boring) goods. For me there is a meeting point between server load and beauty. I DO realize that everyone has their own point of view on this. That's just mine .
  3. Just wanted to comment that a Fly Cam isn't really needed and should be further down on your list IMHO . Lots of ways to make machinima. Good editing software would be high on my list Have fun.
  4. When I made animations for Cloud Party in Blender they had to go through an online "rearranging" tool in order to work, so "not you" . This gal wrote a whole lot (maybe last summer) on renaming bones in Blender so that you could upload directly. I didin't try it as I use the old Qavimator. But if you dig down in her stream or write a note on one of her posts I bet she can lead you to the info. Good luck. https://plus.google.com/u/0/+VbinniaRadek

    LODs Revisited

There was a long thread awhile ago after the Lindens gave us bonus prims. It was about "their" wish for creators to do a bit better with the Long Distance Viewing. This is a bit of a rant for me. I am both sad and angry. Not sure which one wins. I am the first to admit that I very seldom make my own "holy grail" LODs. I am getting much better with my textures, still using 1024s but often getting a whole house in with 3 or 4. But I digress. What bothers me the MOST is that there are creators out there (not new folks) who are still producing items with horrible (I stopped myself from swearing) LODS. Move back a foot at an LOD setting of 2 and everything falls apart. That is bad enough, but when you look at the "more info" button you can see that they could have EASILY made the LODs better simply by choosing other values in the uploader. The perfectionists will make their own LODS and I have no argument with that. Mine never seem to be any better than the uploader -- others have echoed that finding. It may indeed depend on what you are uploading. But even if creators JUST use the uploader, they do need to PAY ATTENTION. Setting your personal LOD to 4 and considering that the rest of the world should follow you? Unfair to a lot of folks who can't get their LODs to 4. Folks that are seeing those creations simply as triangles. I strongly suggest, AGAIN, that creators turn their LODs down to 2 or below and see how the world looks. Happily some of it looks great. Other? NOT SO MUCH. This is a screenshot of my building pad. I am at one end of 64 meters, the obejcts in the background are at the other. I could zoom out further and still see them pretty well. This is LATTICE folks with beveled board inserts and you can still see the directional pieces. I did NOT make my own LODs but I defintely did TEST to see what the best uploading would be. Most of those piece in the background STILL come in at 1 land impact. The gazebo which you can see from a very long distance is 16 with lots of details. It doesn't take that much time to pay attention. If only a handful of people think about this I will feel better :D.
  6. I have lived on mainland (as well as private lands) for almost a decade. The mainland is FREE -- not tier wise but for most purposes rules wise. There are some rules but when you buy mainland you KNOW that your neighbors will change and it is likely that somewhere along the way you will get "a club", " a breeder" or some other enterprise that has a lot of traffic. If you don't, then you are very lucky. There are a few rules for mainland. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Mainland_policies If you aren't breaking those, then your neighbors can move -- that is their choice. I would suggest asking them -- if they seem like they are threatening -- to point out what mainland rule you are breaking. I doubt they will be able too. Popularity isn't against the rules, if it were you wouldn't see huge clusters of green dots all in one place LOL.
  7. Ahhhh. It never even dawned on me that someone would turn the physics preview OFF. That little hint has saved lots of faulty uploads for me when I forgot to apply roation or something before export LOL. OK. Not a viewer thing. Thanks. No, I didn't think it was the physics either, I just wondered why I couldn't see it .
  8. Using a skin applier will also solve this
  9. Lots of SL machinima makers belong to the Machinima Artist Guild where there is plenty of info and lots of things to watch from other folks. A good place to start. http://slmachinimaarts.ning.com/ I don't know of any free software other than the trial version (watermark) of FRAPS which you can certainly use to learn with. Looking in Google for free video capture software will likely find something if there is something. Your computer will work fine. I film at window size 1600 x 900 which I think is fairly typical so if you have a big screen, don't try and film at full screen size. No need. You can start learning how to edit with free software but it will be quite limiting. Still it will give you an idea how you like the process. I don't know if Windows has a free movie maker software for Win10. It did for older versions of Windows. The interface will show up automatically unless you turn it off Have fun. Oh, be sure and read the Machinima and Photograpy rules for Second Life. Generally it means you can only film on public Linden land, your land or where you have permission from the land owner and you cannot film any people that can be recognized without their concent.
  10. OK. I can see the text that states the info but the second screenshot example mesh window looks just like the first screenshot to me, nothing like my physics windows look. that is what I always look at (the model) not the text info . Assume it is a viewer difference why it doesn't look like mine with various colors and such after analyzing.
  11. Since very few people actually read the forums and less read the land areas LOL AND since there are tons of lots side by side in Horizon for sale it seems pretty obvious that looking on the map and teleporting over would be the most reasonable plan. Just saying
  12. For me, all the "real life" rules apply here. There is a person behind every avatar, so avatars are REAL too. We don't often know who the real life person is, we take our cues about relationships by what is said and how we are treated. I gave a ring back in real life once. It wasn't a "real" diamond but it was dificult for me to return it as the relationship meant something to us both. Still keeping it wasn't good for my feelings; hanging on to something that couldn't be was too painful. I would go with the buy your own ring suggestion. This is no longer the 1950s . MOST of the time, that's a good thing. And, a further thought. If your prospective fiance really wanted to get you an expensive ring, he could earn the money over at the realms or get a job. So the ring thing seems to be more important to you than to him.
  13. If you are premium (hard to tell from your post) you get the tier on a 512 lot free with no bill each month (that bonus comes with premium membership and only premium members can own mainland). That isn't a big piece of land but it could be a start. You now get 175 prims to work with. Anything else you will get an additional bill or pay a landlord inworld for the use of the land.
  14. There are plenty of skins made for the Lelutka head (I have one). The reason if I remember correctly from the Omega website (lots of info there) is that the Lelutka head wasn't made using the SL default archetecture. Since Lelutka was one of the first heads out there quite a few designers made skins using the Lelutka "kit' (not too easy to get as I understand it). Lumae, I know makes them as that is what I have but there are others for sure. Once Catwa started making heads and giving out designer kits freely -- the game changed . Since Simone is the only Lelutka head of the old group that will be Bento and since there is apparently Omega for Bento, I am guessing heads coming in the future will be compliant with Omega needs. Look in the Marketplace for Letuka skins and that will tell you who has made skins specifically for that head.
  15. Also note that if you or an alt make a whole store of nothing but your gacha itmes --- well it doesn't take a reocket scientist. So you may need to actually GO into the gacha resale business to "cover your tracks". That sounds like WAAAAAAAY too much work for me. LOL
  16. Using a full LOD setting for the LOW version of a 5 meter item seems pretty strange and a not great practice. I can't really see your physics model showing in the NICE CLEAR SCREENSHOT (ty) but are you trying to use the same full model for the physics? That's a little confusing. What happens when you try to upload that same model using the default settings and a CUBE as your physics model? That would be a good test. [NOTE: that WOULD be a test and not a finished product LOL. ]
  17. Most mesh heads that I have tried have choices of neck sizes by body fat as mentioned. It looks like that is your issue. If that is missing on the Bento head, then that is NOT good. Agreed . Remember that while there are plenty of Bento heads OUT THERE, they are also new. Also lots of folks can't see them and apparently they look awful for those without a Bento viewer (like mesh did when it came in -- giant bubbles and invisible body parts LOL. Anyway, waiting and watching might be something to think on. Yes, AK is Akeruka who has been working on Bento heads for some time now.
  18. The best mesh body is the one you feel most comfortable in. That being said Maitreya has by far the largest share of the pie and there are several top designers that ONLY make things for Maitreya. Hence you will have more choices with that brand. If you like clothes then picking from the top three (you have the demos) is a wise plan.
  19. Your best bet IMHO and what I do is to scan the map. Follow the waterline and look for parcels for sale that are 1024, It doesn't take long to figure out what size of yellow square represents at 1024. It is unlikely you will find that larger size. Look at the price and what is neighboring it on the map (giant areas of lots of green dots is NOT good ). From there ? Yep, ya just need to TP. Auctions can work but typically you can pay more on auction that you will just buying from someone. Makes me wonder. I guess it is the "gotta have it" mentality . All my friends tell me I have great "land karma". I enjoy looking for land. Just embrace the experience, have a beer or whatever and begin your search. It CAN be fun if you let it be.
  20. ChinRey wrote: When the increased prim limit was launched, Patch Linden said that LL hoped people would use some of that extra LI to improve the content quality. That's a lovely thought but a forlorn hope is not enough encouragement to make any difference and so far it seems that's all LL has to offer. I have noticed even though I wasn't dedicating any particular effort to the process, that in many cases I am opting for slightly higher land impacts with see accross the sim distances (this at 2 and I tested at 1 also). That doesn't mean I think this ALWAYS needs to happen, but with houses especially -- and I recently made some giant boulders for "buffers" on mainland -- it is a good practice. So SOME folks are working towards Patch's wish. .
  21. I don't thing the format thing is the only reason to limit. In Cloud Party they had added support for various 3D programs (I was there toward the end) and while I was there they added support for Sketchup. Each new 3D program, even though it produced a DAE file had different things that had to be accomplished on the server AND the support team (which was GREAT) also needed to understand the 3D programs supported in order to help. So I personally don't have any issue with using Maya as the first software supported, I just hope that they encompass others as they said they would.
  22. Regarding Cloud Party The "tree" was just an example. Once you had added an "asset" to your build beit a chair or a tree or a pillow, it was reusable at no cost. They had a VERY differente way of controling the amount of information on -- well let's call it a sim though it was more like a 2x2 var in SL. There were only so many items that could have long LODs and you got to choose. Usually that would be things like houses. I thought it was very smart programing although you did have to be VERY careful with your texture uploads as they counted mightily.
  23. You will need to talk to the sim owner. They have a set landing point. That is how it works when you have one of those. They can change it so that anyone can teleport to anywhere but they may not want to. The people coming in MIGHT be able to get to your gallery by using the landmark AGAIN once they are at the sim. That works sometimes. Really nothing you can do about it on your own.
  24. LOL. Had to smile at this. I vaguely remember a similar line from long ago. LL has never liked AMD. Hence most of us oldtimers are on "the other card" . It really IS OK to support a third party viewer. So sticking with the one that works with your card is a very viable plan. Do'nt expect any changes from The Lab.
