I am having the greatest difficulty imagining anything that will both work as intended, and not put off a section of potential new sl residents.
I suspect we all probably suffer from confirmation bias with this topic, that if your SL life is primarily focused on finding virtual sexual partners, or a particular kind of self-expression then you will think that this is the biggest thing in SL and will be surrounded by people who agree with that.
If you spend the majority of your time exploring, socialising, taking photos, or decorating your virtual home then you will pick out information that supports the view that your particular niche is central to virtual life.
We don't (as far as i know) have any actual stats about what drives people here, or what keeps them once they do arrive. It's possible that Linden Labs doesn't know either and every move is tentatively based on guesswork.
Bearing in mind that most people are pretty boring (including myself here!) then there could be a whole range of activities that seem nice to have, but which most people never actually get around to and are actually minority sports, despite the enthusiastic evangelists making out otherwise.

Thanks. I didn't know this. Excluding sex is totally illogical for a platform that builds on the concept of a "second life".  SL offers CHOICE. Since Sansar didn't,  IMHO it was a failed proposition from the start.

I thought of a good name for a Liden-hosted Adult club: "Sum Bonum".

Because it should represent the "highest good" and "pinnacle" of adult entertainment activities.

And because 14-yo male brains will read it as "Some bone'em".

I'll toss in my two cents worth. I doubt LL will cater to niches, whether they be sexual or asexual, and IMHO, they shouldn't.  I see it simply as a confirmation that the adult side exists, and showing potential customers that they CAN find adult content here, IF they CHOOSE to. That opens up the market to a wider customer base. Making SL a publicly advertised sex based platform would NOT be good IMO. Exploring , taking pics, creating, socializing, etc, are vital elements. I know they are for me, just as much as sex is.

Having sex in SL IS actually socializing though. We are interacting and getting to know others. There IS actual conversation involved,  and when the orgasms are over, yes, people really DO talk about things like how they had to take their dog to the Vet.

To me, personally, this announcement doesn't affect my life in SL at all. I highly doubt I would find anything in an LL sanctioned adult location that would appeal to my sexual side. But the continued existence of SL DOES affect me.

All content above G rated was (is) prohibited. That, combined with the lack of social tooling made it very clear the last thing anyone should be doing was talking to anyone else, let alone *clutches pearls* roleplaying. It was barely possible to have friends, when traveling together there was no guarantee you would enter a new destination in the same instance.

We all visited. 

We all left promising to "try it again when it's a bit more finished," and it never was, because it was. Job done and all that.

Since the announcement is just a bit vague, I'll just wait to see what the Lab has come up with to acknowledge that there is an adult element that some people are in SL for.

No matter what they've planned, most forumites will complain and say the Lab ruined their chance to unveil something great, or that they didnt go far enough by advertising on pron sites, or that they might not allow open sex on their dance floor,  or that whatever niche group each is in, it isn't represented enough or.... or.....

I have enjoyed the guessing in this thread though. 

Perhaps they just plan on handing genitals out at the door.

LL acknowledging sexual activity by creating something "A" rated doesn't mean it will suddenly be allowed everywhere. The area would still have to have an "A" rating. People will still have to choose if they want to go there.
