The WelcomeHUB was treated to an impromptu gathering of cheerleaders from Kokoro Academy a couple of days ago.  Lots of fun and smiles shared welcoming new Residents :D

I have never really thought to hang out at a welcome hub. My experience with them is just a bunch of people on voice trying to drown out everyone else on voice with crappy karaoke or music. lol

This one isn't like that.

Most people are not in voice, a few newbies are. Most of the newbies are just standing or hovering in the landing zone area. Some ask in voice or local for help. There are a couple of mentors and sometimes Viola Mole. There are always a few older residents hanging out or wandering around. There are some fun activities, such as the pictogram game, dancing in the social area, or playing in the sandbox, casino, or skills game region. I think the best part about regular residents going there is to show newbies that we can be friendly and helpful.

There is a Social area which is where anyone can hang out.  I danced with someone yesterday, explaining how to call up the poseballs, how to sit on them and accept the animation.  I mentioned several times that if he did need help, there were approved Mentors available he could call by using the call button.  There were no mentors there at that time, however.  The only other thing I suggested was that he go through the tutorials.

This didn't happen while I was there so I'm not sure what you mean.   When I first began going there some Mentors did ask why I was there which I assumed was to ensure I didn't have bad intentions.  The Mentors are doing a great job and are always available to new Residents who can use a button to summon them.  I hang out in the Social Plaza which is meant for socializing, dancing, playing games and having fun.  New Residents usually find this Social Plaza area after they have landed and gone through the Orientation and been assisted by Mentors.  The floorplan and flow have been thoughtfully designed.

What I notice, as an older account, is the Mentors do expect G rating of the area to be respected and remind those accounts immediately if it's not the case.

Also, new accounts are insisted to be called newcomers and not noobs by them.

Which is out of respect of the new accounts arriving, so perhaps that is where one sees the soft suggestions you mention.

ETA : Status quo at the hub now is that older accounts are just as welcome as new ones as long as there is a consolidated effort to let the newcomers feel welcome first.
