A very valid point. I used to ask myself why people would be so rude, even in the face of being reported for it, but then I myself have told sim owners that if they don't want people coming around that they don't know, they can just set it to disallow everyone not in their group.

This is what the orb owners would be doing if they had the option. They just don't have that option, so it makes sense they'd do that instead, even if it comes off as rude.

A friend of mine has a very nice place on my home sim. The decor is awesome, and for a long time she had it all set up as a beautiful home. The only problem is that she simply cound never log in without landing on top of someone in her house, and they were seldom polite about being there, despite knowing it was a private home.

In the end, I stuck a prim the size of her house around her house and gave it a whitelist for her to use, so nobody could pass into the house who wasn't on the list. It was the only thing that worked.

She is one of the nicest (genuinely nice) people I have ever met, anywhere. And I'm sure they called her at least a few bad words when they found out they couldn't use her house for free anymore.

With my Celia account, I had a guy show up in my penthouse and just stand there. For a fair long while, without saying anything. It was creepy. Then I simply ejected and banned him. I asked him after the ejection what he was doing in my private space without invitation. He said: "greeting you". It did NOT go well. Celia is NOT nice!!! Active security now!!!

That was me, I just couldn't find my creepy clown avatar at the time. Please let me back in. I promise I will move about and speak a little this time.

Just kidding. In case you believed me.

Hard crash, like with a Bugsplat or the usual teleport bug with soft lock/teleport failure followed by "you've been disconnected" ?

I can't update to anything new without it being unusable. I always have to wait until my version is no longer supported, and then get the oldest version that still is. It gives them time to sort out any bugs that would crush my experience, at least. The rest is always up to me.

It still sucks, though. I find your angst relatable.

What's sad is that if they had simply been nice back to her, in HER house, she probably would have let them hang out, because she's nice.

Oh I don't see it as rude at all. I had no right to be there, it's definitely not something I would even dream of doing now but as a noobie I had a much less developed sense of how property works etc.

I run a very strict orb in my home, I started that after I bought my first parcel and found that without one many people would just let themself in even while I was there - presumably a little green dot on the map gives them more reason to do so.

I wouldn't believe it was you for one second LOL!!! You just made me laugh!!! i suspect it was someone Celia had "relations" with in her Penthouse, in an alt, since he was on the island I have as Sandor earlier that day. Celia HAD shown him an OC vendor in the island Gallery, and he was in the same location earlier. A little too coincidental.

Peeve: Why don't I get any notification of posts from people I follow? I AM worried about @Cinnamon Mistwood, but I wanted to protect her privacy by not mentioning that she was in the vicinity of a wildfire, and I didn't see that she had posted earlier that she was. I seem to remember getting notifications of posts from people I follow in the past. Did that change, or am I simply remembering wrong? Or is one of my settings wrong?

Try logging out after you've made changes, and then relogging to make changes stick. I know that's a necessity in some cases.

I think a lot of people assume that everyone they see is there looking for chat or other interactions, so they just barge in.

The worst is when trying on demos, going for a cup of coffee, and finding someone there when I get back. 4500 meters up off of the ground. In my skybox that I rezzed up there just to try on demos away from others.

I had a friend who was an escort, and rather wealthy, and she had a private home just for entertaining clients. She told me every time she logged in at home, she had to kick people out, because apparently they all thought it was a place for escorts to take their clients. XD

Give a mouse a cookie, and you'll find him in your fridge, eating all the butter, when you go to make a sandwich. XD

Extra Peeve for the Day: People assuming I'm being emotional when I'm being rational, calm, and maybe just a tad sarcastic. Also, when they act like their opinion of me still matters to me beyond that point.

Without naming and shaming, one person today stands out to me as being someone beyond the reach of the intellectual faculty, and that's sad, because now I just have to watch them continue to flounder in their morass of confusion masquerading as pachuco, a cold turd wondering why the rest of us don't see that it's hot poop.

I hate it when I finally get backed into a corner after trying so hard to get a single decent word out of someone I've been nothing but nice to, and have to admit that my own private philosophy is, yet again, completely correct. Lesson learned.

I'm done trying guys, you can all have him. I no longer give a rodent's anus.

REALY SERIOUS PEEVE: Support groups, where even the head honchos have no concept of the issues, or how to fix them!!!

I was testing Linux with Firestorm. Fine. It all worked. UNTIL I tried to save a pic to disk. Then I just froze. The support group either ignored my chat, or suggested I reset all my settings, and suggested trying another viwer to see if it was FS or not.. I noticed @BriannaLoveywas online. I know she knows Linux. She suggested I use  alt tab. That let mne pick my file loaction, and I COULD save a pic to wher I wanted. I still DO have to file a bug report, but without Brianna's help, I woud still be wandering around "Official Support!!!

Thanks Bri!!!

To be fair...

Less that 1.5% of SecondLifers are members of the Linux Cult. So expecting large numbers of people to know about the assorted reasons for not using Linux, ever, in detail, is probably a bit unrealistic.

It's Linux, it not working as expected is apparently "part of it's charm".

I really DO understand that Linux is niche. My issue is about  the support group. it's meant to support Windows, Mac, AND Linux. I don't expect everyone running the group to know about every issue. BUT...I DO expect help. If the "Mods" online don't know the answer, they should be honest and say they don't know, because they don't have experience with Linux, and tell me to file a bug report, or refer me to someone who DOES know.

Personally, I am not a Linux fan. It DOES double my framerate with FS though, as @BriannaLoveysaid it would. I can "skimp" by with an average of 40 FPS with everything maxed out in Windows (except in one rare case), but my friends don't have the hardware I do. If I can set up a bootable Linux drive image with FS for them to use, I certainly will. It's unfortunate that Caitlin is on a Mac,  as apparently, even booting Linux from an external drive can cause issues with the Mac OS. It affects Windows as well, as I have discovered with my clock.

Nah, its a viewer-specific bug. Every other viewer besides Firestorm (and Firestorm forks) doesn't have this problem. Most of Firestorm testing is done on Windows due to its near monopoly on desktop computing, so of course they aren't going to catch something like this.

Peeve: That happens to me too, when apparently out of the blue, people say I "must be having a bad day", or accuse me of being "passive-aggressive"!

It's like, you almost have to put little hearts and smiley emojis on everything or people just make up their own "moods" for what you write!

They probably just haven't had anyone say something about this issue before. From our conversation, I recall you use Ubuntu with the GNOME desktop environment. Most other desktop environments (Cinnamon, KDE, XFCE, etc.) have some sort of hint that another window has been opened, such as a flashing taskbar icon or a little box displaying the number of windows open for a particular application. So many other Linux users will realize that another window is opened, but just not in focus.

I have never used GNOME before, but it is possible that it doesn't hint that new windows are being opened very well.

I know so little about Linux, I wouldn't even know to look. Either way, FS is unusable for impromptu pics if I have to choose a folder each time. I need it to save when I press save. And that's even too slow.

Tell them you don't believe in "Dr. Spock Consciousness"   pfffft

It's like displaying emotion is considered evil these days (in the West anyway).  Many other countries value emotional expression.

Yes, I'm that petty. 😂
